This intro is badass, but half-assed The game tries so hard to have a deep lore but doesn't even bother to properly introduce the new characters when they seem to have an important role, or what happened since 2016 Who is that Novik ghost guy and why does the doomguy bows to him ? What is the Khan Maykr ? Who is that betrayer and why am i supposed to know him ? where the fuck did i find that "doom fortress" ? Doom 2016 did it perfectly right : quickly introducing the characters and the situation in a way that you don't have to read a shitload of lore to undertand "who is that guy and why am i here ?", and most important : KEEPING IT SIMPLE

@@Zulnivis but doom eternal does keep it simple. It gives you lore pages that you can read on your own time. The problem here is that doom eternal is not the same as doom 2016. It's much more fast paced. That's why the cutscenes are so short so the player doesn't get distracted by story and just keeps slaying and killing demons. Doom eternal is much more focused on the gameplay rather than the story like doom 2016 was. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm not lying when I say this is the best, and most adrenaline pumping intro cut scene I've ever seen. The Doom Slayer gearing up as we hear Vega telling him he doesn't have much time left, and hearing the survivors begging for help as Mick Gordon masterfully builds up the music. And then the climax as the last Survivor, clearly in absolute desperation, asking anyone for help as the Doom Slayer pumps his shotgun, followed by the music dropping into the riff we all know and love with the title card. I cannot fully express how much of a masterpiece this intro is, to me at least.

I’ve gotta say this is the best most fun solo campaign first person shooters I’ve ever played by far. The fact that so many first person shooters rely on their multiplayer to occupy the consumers time but doom has a campaign that is so insanely fun that you want to just keep playing over and over on harder difficulties is crazy. And after doom 2016 I was like idk how they’re going to top that then this opening scene came up and I was like my god. This just completely annihilates every other shooter to me because the devs knew that the fun part of shooting games is the shooting and killing...harder difficulties you have to run faster kill quicker and use combos better to get more ammo armor and health...every other game...hide behind something and use the lamest weapons like a plasma pistol to win. This game is on a different level and more shooters need to take note.

My father was a big fan and a great Doom player, he was on it since the first one in 1993. One month before the release of Eternal, he died from a massive heart attack. I really love the line “All the wickedness mankind can produce” which gets you thinking about all the history and tragedies humanity has caused and makes you realize that yeah demons are terrible and have done awful things but we have also done stuff equally as bad, both in universe lore with Olivia Pierce and Samual Hayden causing this to happen either for personal gain or corporate interest, but also with real life history, it’s a small thing but adds a lot of nuance to these games for me

I love how much you can feel with this intro you feel how desperate everyone on earth is, what comes to mind is how easily a regular person can be killed even by the fodder demons you feel how helpless their situation sounds. 60% of earth overrun? billions of deaths? in moments like these all you can really do is pray for a savior you feel angry at the demons. they are killing YOUR people and you know they're having fun with it, its time to make them regret it you feel powerful, for as evil as the demons can be, they fear you, they are scared of you, and rightfully so hearing people scream for help just as you enter the portal makes you feel like some kind of super hero, like you're about to save them all its such a buildup, I love it

Definitely one of the most badass game intros ever in gaming history. This cutscene tells you pretty much everything you need to know; Earth is under demonic invasion, you are a badass super soldier with god-like powers with a prophecy to fulfill, and you are going to (as the narrator said) rip and tear until there's no more demons to kill. In short, you are just there to give the demons a really bad day.
