Half-Orc. My favourite race. I feel like I know them because I come from a life of mixed race parents. My mom was always aggressive and emotional, and solved many problems with her ability to either intimidate or scrap her way out. I inherited her ethics, her hard work, her opinionated nature (as seen), and her aggressive stance. I'm an emotional guy. Always have been. And my choices have lead to a body covered in scars. Poor choices, motor cycle accidents, fights, and stupid dares... So Half Orc comes naturally to me. I tend to hang out with others bigger than myself and not feel intimidated. Half Orcs are all about resilience and instant expression. They have Gruumsh's rage in their blood whether they want it or not. They speak with actions and judge likewise. Love em. Awesome.

I'm brand new to D&D, but based on what I've read I would compare Half Orcs to Star Trek Klingons. And when looking for a goodly example, I'd obviously point to Worf.

Uruk Hai aren't a cross between goblins and orcs as Tolkein used the terms Goblin and Orc interchangeably, rather they are a mix of orcs and men. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orc_(Middle-earth)

I started to play neverwinter and created an uthgardt half-orc who comes from the Gray Valley. That origin seems to be quite unlikely because is never said that half orcs exist among uthgardt barbarian tribes or that they have a homeland, in fact they don't and they are kinda outcasted by some races due to their orc heritage. I tried this roleplay based on Thrall from Warcraft universe who is an orc.

I'd like to say I want to play a half orc monk that doesn't speak orcish. My character was found as an infant in a time of war. The group that found me felt guilty about leaving a baby in a war zone so they left me at a monk shrine. Seeing the potential of me, rather than teach a half orc the ways of shadow they went with way of fist school of teaching. My character has a human name which brings looks of scorn from the townsfolk whenever he gets sent for supplies for the shrine. Having never seen another orc or half orc I'm unfamiliar with the customs or language but am aware of the orc god with one eye. He also enjoys tea over ale & mead. While he enjoys meat, if there is a plant option he'll take it. I'm sure I'll think up other stuff too but that is what I have right now. What do you guys think?

One recommendation for Half-Orcs - Paladin, especially the Oath of Redemption subclass, seeing as it was partly-cribbed from the Pathfinder version which was exclusive to Half-Orcs.

What about a half orc bars of whispers that was taken in by elves when he was young. Or a half orc rogue that grew up in the thieves guild under the city. I think one of those builds would be fun.

I still find it rather weird and slightly amusing that Half-Orcs and Boars are the only two creatures in D&D that have the 'Relentless Endurance' trait. Half-Orcs don't get the ability from Orcs or any other races that they might have coupled with. Does this mean there's some unspoken history involving Orcs and Boars? Is there Pork in those Genes?

The theory I've heard most is that it's the combination of human's stubborness and Orcish resilience - couple those together, and boom, Relentless Endurance.

atombrain111 I'd have to disagree based on the lore for orcs. Their goddess Luthic, basically queen of the pantheon, basically has it as one of their commandments to breed as often as possible with anything available(except elves, the elf god took Gruumsh's eye etc.) meaning half-orcs would generally be born fairly often in places where orcs are active.

Well, in the Eaaarrliest editions, orcs were called Pig-men. If I remember correctly. And Orcs can breed with almost any creature due to one of their deities.

ooohhh, in one of my campaigns, the dwarves of my world made half orc half dwarfs and used them as essentially cannon fodder..of the most ferocious kind. Honestly, you could switch out some of the Half-orc features and give them resistance to poison and a slower speed, but orcs and dwarves are actually very similar-hence all the feuds for land and recources in the mountains

Garona Halforcen from World of Warcraft is a famous half orc. Rexxar(The Hordes champion) is another example

Axel Tenveils Go a step further, grab the orc race from Volo's, say you were raised by humans, and play a pure orc wizard. Doesn't get much more against type than a refined wizard from a bestial race with a racial -2 Intelligence penalty.

Half-orc. An obvious race designed for rolling str check, bad at socializing, absolute diplomat when language used is shouting, hate labor work, 9/10 a half-orc leaves their tribe is they r not orc-chy enough. A player can role-play like an orc, which is fun; but expect "not-friendly" npcs are abundant because by the lore, half-orc is still an orc, a monster race. I lived in back alley, horse stable, outskirts, jail cell, slump and my favorite - leomund's tiny hut. Had you seen a half-orc pleas the spell caster? Me neither.
