Lisaaaa! I'm not even close to kidding when I say: *I feel like I've learned more from you over the past couple months, than from my old college professors when I went to school for art education.* It's crazy! You're far more interesting; & your practical demos + theoretical approach/ overall delivery is fantastic. :) Thank you (again) for your awesomeness. *Subscribe, people!*

Lisa, as always you make it look so easy. I have never used an air brush, but I know it cannot be easy. I appreciate that you explain each step and the cautions on how to use the brush. I can see the advantage of using this as one of the tools when you create any painting. This is a great video that will be viewed by many often to gain information and tips on how to do this. We all appreciate the time and work you put into these videos. We will all be looking forward to next week for the finish. Thanks :D

So you refer to createx airbrush paint being great because of its opaqueness and that you add water to it and you say that some of your colors are more translucent like yellow. My question is are you using the createx opaque or translucent kind of paint. We carry both at Hobby Lobby and if one of them is the normal kind or the kind they have had forever and one is new I don't know which one has been around longer. So I have just purchased airbrush set up and I am trying to get a basic set up of paint for it and I will be doing things more like you mixing traditional painting with the airbrush so I want to pretty much the same paint you are using at least to start out with. I bought the set of 6 opaque instead of the translucent but I figure even if you usually use the translucent and not the opaque most of the time I am guessing there will be times I would one over the other so maybe I need both, I just wanted to start out with just what I need to do the same applications that you are doing. Thank you, keep on inspiring everyone with your artwork/videos!!

All the tips aŋd suggestioŋs you gave, I already kŋew it but it's great for people usiŋg airbrushes for the first time, I have doŋe 5 or 6 thiŋgs with it, the ŋext project oŋ my list will be flames oŋ my door, I already have the curved templates too aŋd I have a sexy Paasche Double Action airbrush, but I have a techŋical questioŋ, you already told us the way you cleaŋ your airbrush, I also have this weird lookiŋg browŋ liquid used to cleaŋ it but everytime I'm cleaŋiŋg it, the first thiŋg I do is disassemble it all aŋd cleaŋ it, specially the ŋeedles but it's kiŋd of aŋŋoyiŋg to cleaŋ it that way because I have to disassemble it aŋd assamble it all over aŋd over agaiŋ, what's your suggestioŋ? aŋd, am I doiŋg it wroŋg? maybe I'm breaking it and I don't realize it. Oh a quick question, I used Rotring drawing ink for technical pens, and it kinda works but I don't know if it damages or not the interior of the airbrush, does it?. Thanks for showing us how to airbrush flames, I never tought such a cute delicate girl will teach us something we (filthy loud metalheads) will freaking like, you're aweome!.

I usually take needle out of my airbrush and wipe it down at the night when I'm done painting. Beside that I don't normally have to take it completely apart as long as I'm cleaning it as I work with the airbrush cleaner. I do occasionally get a chunk of paint clogging it bad enough that I have to pull the nozzle off and clean or soak that in cleaner, but not often. I've never tried using ink in mine, so I'm not sure about that one. You will have to share a photo of your door when you finish painting the flames!! =D

Lisa, Golden also makes airbrush paint which is more like the Iwata-Medea product. I'ver never had any luck with Createx paint. Although Createx makes AutoAir which is water based and very popular among the auto painters... I've used it with great success. My biggest problem when I tried airbrushing was changing colors. What would you suggest as the simplest way to change colors? For some reason this is the part that's always left out of tutorials and I can never seem to get a solid answer. :(
@Lachri
@Lachri 10 жыл бұрын
Evertras Unfortunately there is no easy answer to this. Simply put, you have to clean the airbrush between each color. You don't usually need to do a thorough job cleaning it though between most colors. I try and judge how much of the color I will need before I add the paint to the airbrush. If you put in a ton and you only need a little, that is going to be that much more of a pain to switch later. When I switch colors, I run clean water through the brush. If that isn't cleaning it well enough (if my paint was too thick for example) I run an airbrush cleaner by createx through it as well before putting in my next color. Some colors like ComArt are really thin and really easy to clean between colors. You also have an option of using a siphon type airbrush (the one I use is a gravity type). With these you can have each color in a different jar that you attach to the airbrush as needed. You still need to clean out the gun itself between colors (with water or a cleaner), but it is way faster to switch with that type.

What can I do of I have a stencil, but no airbrush. Is it possible to still be able to get solar effects if let's say, I sponge dab it???
@Lachri
@Lachri 9 жыл бұрын
Zeyno Aksit It depends on the look you're going for. Stenciling with a sponge gives you a rougher texture (which can look cool). For the flames, I wouldn't use stencils at all without the airbrush, I would just glaze with a regular paint brush.

@Lachri
@Lachri 9 жыл бұрын
kristel Lamb You can get everything from Hobby Lobby, unfortunately there are no kits that I recommend. The only thing I was not able to purchase from Hobby Lobby were the right sized hoses to connect the airbrush to the compressor. For those I went to amazon.
@TeamLeaderPG
@TeamLeaderPG 9 жыл бұрын
A good airsource is key. You will want a compressor with a good pressure regulator. If you use a traditional style non oil compressor you will want a fluid catch. Find this at a hardware store. A Tool Shop brand liquid catch is very affordable. Shop around there is a lot to choose from. Lachri is using a comp designed for artists brushes so if your willing to pay a bit more you wont need the fluid catch. I like a non oil compressor that can run various other types of hand tools with a large tank reserve to keep quiet. Listening to the paint move through the nozzle will help you manage fluid consistency. Next important item is your paint and cleaners. Understanding and manipulating the viscosity is the next obstacle airbrushers encounter. This is something to practice often as you discover the properties of your materials. Good cleaners are a must to avoid damage to your brush. You don't want to scrape the paint off because you risk scratching the needle or nozzle. Microscopic scratches will affect flow consistency and will catch paint and clog sooner. Good airbrush cleaner is pricey. Some alternatives which are good are non amonia based glass cleaners like some types of Windex or the cleaner Simple Green. Windex can also be used as a viable paint thinner with the acrylics. This is something to practice. Over watered acrylic will lay down and look normal, but if mixed improperly it will wipe or scratch off after cure times. Very important to avoid this as it will destroy hard work.Again practice is key. Your brush is only as good as your understanding of the things I mentioned above. Her Iwata Neo is a good beginners brush, but more prone to clogs from what I understand by reviews I've read. This is due to the tiny nozzle I believe.
@TeamLeaderPG
@TeamLeaderPG 9 жыл бұрын
tom smith Long story short most dual action brushes are good and it depends on personal preference and understanding of material. There is an airbrush kit on amazon that looked nice because it was very cheap and it offers 3 additional needle sizes. The smaller the needle the smaller more fine quality lines you can draw. The larger the needle will give a pattern which is more wide. In the right hands a cheap brush can perform like a high end brush albeit this may take some mechanical modification of the brush. For instance my Iwata Neo has been drilled out at the needle chuck and can accept larger sized .5 needles. In addition I have made modifications to inner the seal to accommodate... Shop around and research these things.. There are still stores online selling outdated brush designs at premium prices even though newer versions are available. I live in the midwest so my go to supplier is Chicago Airbrush. They helped me out with the quickness when ordering replacement needles for a nice low price.... Which remids me lol do not drop your brush!!! :) It's a quick way to ruin a nozzle and needle. They pretty much can't be repaired once damaged due to the tiny scale.

I do airbrush in a small room. I have a ceiling fan going all the time, with an open window if I'm painting a lot. I also wear a mask to cut down on how much paint is inhaled. I have made myself quite sick before coating my lungs with so much paint that I wasn't getting enough oxygen. I've not had an issue since wearing the face mask thing :) The paint itself is non toxic, so its not an issue of fumes so much as just getting too much of anything like that coating your lungs.

Bryan Laguna Legally no on the fan art, not unless you get permission from the copyright holder. People still do and still make prints to sell but its not something I have interest in messing with. For the Mona Lisa, yes, that you can. Really old pieces like that no longer fall under copyright laws so those are different :)

I don't know if this is a dumb question or not (I'm trying to understand!) but I just watched her copyright video and how you cannot paint characters that are owned by the creator. And here Lisa is, painting Katniss (hopefully that is spelled right) and Daenerys and making money off the video. Is this okay then..?

If the last part of that comment sounded a bit harsh, I apologize. I realized it after I hit the blue button and I did not intend for it to come off that way hahah. Me is just confuuused af.

This is fan art. Both Game of Thrones and Hunger Games encourage fan art. I still have the originals and do not make prints from them given I don't own the copyright. :)

Yeah... Don't do that with a gun either... Thank you, as someone who has never used an airbrush I appreciated this video a lot.

Lisa, Have you tried E'tac airbrush paints? I've been using their products for years, and they are great about not clogging the airbrush. www.etac-airbrush.com/
