This was the most self-sufficient explanation I've watched on LET since the formula was released. Thank you!

I first discovered LET() last year, because I found out the bad way that excel has a character limit for its formulas. Got my formula down from over 8000 characters to under 500, and it also made it way easier to update when our parameters changed a few months ago, since I just had to update the parameters once in each function instead of 24. (Plus, it runs much faster now)

Good job 👍

Never saw someone write a 8000 chars in a single formula 😂 do you mind sharing what it is and its purpose.

Wow! That sounds like a monster formula. It's cool to hear that LET is helping you push beyond those limits. 🚀

Consider learning one of the available macro languages that can be used with Excel, and bail out of these complex expressions. At some point its is fruitless to keep pretending that Excel is a programming language.

Nice video, I started using Let a few months back and love how neat it makes formulas look. I also tied it in with Lambda in Name Manager and it made it super tidy (although admittedly harder for users to follow).

Great video Jon, LET can be confusing to new users but you explained it well!

Thanks so much, Chris! I agree that LET can be confusing at first. It can also be challenging to teach it. Haha! I tried to give a practical example with IF and XLOOKUP that improves efficiency and reduces complexity.

Somehow I feel the quantity should be taken into account? 🤔

It is very odd to me to see someone forced to explain the most basic of programming language concepts, the assignment statement, to Excel users. Especially because apparently a cell has to be randomly denoted for the thing in order to get two sequential activities executed in a row. I would long since bailed out to Visual Basic or Python or whatever else is lurking under that overblown skin. I should talk, since I have been guilty of overloading my systems with too many ways to do the same thing as well, but at some point it all gets out of hand. Especially since the underpinnings of VIsicalc, Lotus123 and their heirs are fundamentally flawed. Powerful systems, and powerfully dangerous.
