Very helpful, thanks! I did the same in that I purchased them at Michael's with multiple coupons. I was so pleased with the deal that I was getting that I eagerly bought them only to get home and realize I had no idea how to use them. Thanks for solving that little problem. My impulsive nature is very appreciative!

Fantastic! I originally bought pearl ex pigments to mix in resin and that worked beautifully but i had no idea i could use these for paper crafting too! Brilliant! I don't believe I'll be purchasing any more perfect pearls powder. I have the metallic perfect pearls and was contemplating getting some other colors but since i have 14 different pearl Ex pigment powders already I won't bother! Thank you so much for sharing! Woo Hooo!

I agree with you on the use of the Gel Medium, but what kind of Gel Medium did you use? There are many kinds of Gel Mediums with different uses! Which kind did you use? Soft Gel Gloss? Regular Gel Matt? Heavy Gel Semi-Gloss? Since the Pearl-X is already metallic there will be a glossy shine with the Gel Mediums to some extent, just wanted to know which Gel you used & how much of it did you used do the small example?

I bought these in 2006 for a project I saw once and read that I needed gum Arabic but never knew how to use them together since to me the gumarabic looked oily and so I never used it! So they've been sitting in my craft room, but now I know how to use them! Thank you!
@sandraolson86357 жыл бұрын
Daisy Niemeyer You only need gum Arabic as a binder if you are not mixing it into another medium such as glue or paint. If only using water and pearl ex then a little gum Arabic helps bind. I use powdered gum Arabic and pearl ex powder mixed in water in a spray bottle as a glimmer mist . Without the gum Arabic it would not be permanent.

Is the Pearl-Ex and gel medium on fabric water-resistant? I'd love to use some of this on a G-tube "cushion" for my new granddaughter, but the fabric has to be absorbent (because sometimes the stomach fluids leak out when connecting/disconnecting the feeding tube) . Thanks for your help!
@OrigamiTwist7 жыл бұрын
Hi! Since Pearl-Ex is a pigment and not a dye, so it won't soak into the fabric, but whether it will be water-resistant or not will depend on what you mix the pigment into. Gel medium's main purpose is to change the texture of acrylic paint, so you may not have a lot of luck with it on fabric. You may want to try mixing the Pearl-Ex into a clear or white fabric paint instead of a gel medium. I love your idea to make a G-tube cushion for your granddaughter! I have an insulin pump (much smaller than a feeding tube, but still one of those 24/7 medical devices that have a tube going into you) and there is something so fabulous about being able to decorate it! :D

Can you mix Pearl Ex with water in a spray bottle to spray on to cards?
@kathryncastanares5257 жыл бұрын
Mary Fuller some pigments dont mix well with water actually as they aren't water soluble or suspendable and will just clump together at the top of your water. You might be able to get them some what mixed in using a blender of some sort for the high power mixing. but eventually they will separate and clump back together. also, having no binder will cause the pigment to just fall and or rub off the project after drying because there is nothing holding them to the surface. I actually make cosmetics and just got into making my own paints nd other mediums, and i learned the hard way before learning about binders and solubility of some pigments etc. hope this helps.

Hi, I like your video much. Thanks for it. How can I used Pearl-ex with metal? I would like to paint sterling charm flowers. Can you please help me?
@OrigamiTwist7 жыл бұрын
As Pearl-ex is a pigment, you would need to find some sort of adhesive or resin or paint that sticks to metal and mix the Pearl-ex with that before applying it to the metal surface. In the research I did, they did mention that it has been used to do special effects painting on cars, so it should work, you just need the right medium to mix it with. What a gorgeous idea, sterling charm flowers would be lovely with many of the Pearl-ex colors on them!

Go to an auto parts store, normally they will sell clear glossy or matte auto paint in pints. Look up "chameleon pearl car paint" and youll see how car guys mix up 5 gal to pant a custom car. A pint of clear auto paint will last you forever if you mix small ammounts at a time. its extra durable, weather proof, and most auto paint withstands 400+ degrees.

Thank you for the great video! I was under the understanding that pearl ex powders needed a binder. That the one you showed with just versa ark would rub off? Has that happened to your sample?
@OrigamiTwist8 жыл бұрын
+Karen Isaak Hi Karen! I love this Pearl Ex technique, have been using it for years! I've found that the Versamark does a surprisingly good job as a binder in this case, especially on items that won't be handled a lot, despite the fact that it isn't technically a glue or paint...and really isn't meant to be a permanent binder. If you are worried that it might rub off, for example on a card that will be handled by a lot of people, or a decorative box, you could absolutely spray a clear sealer over the top to guarantee it stays where you put it. Thank you so much for watching!
@OrigamiTwist8 жыл бұрын
+Origami Twist Ohh, I haven't tried it, but I just thought a glue pad might work too, if the item will be handled a lot and you don't want to spray seal it? I think Tsukineko might make one? What do you think?
@karenisaak83968 жыл бұрын
+Origami Twist thank you! I have read that I need to use gum Arabic as the binder, have both just haven't found the time to play, I will now after watching your video! Thanks again!

You can turn it into watercolour typically by adding Gum Arabic + water + a little glycerin. There are a myriad of recipes out there, just use the Pearl Ex in equal parts where the recipe requires “pigment”. I hope that’s helpful! Happy Painting!

Can this be used on yarn?
@OrigamiTwist7 жыл бұрын
Ohh, very good question! I've never tried using it on yarn, but I imagine if you could find some sort of medium to mix it with that would stick to yarn, you certainly could use it on yarn. As it is just a pigment, it usually needs something added to it to get it to stick to things permanently. Please let me know if you try it and what you mixed with it to get it to stick, I love your idea!
