thanks for the wonderful tutorial. Well articulated and less intimidating than others i've watched. You get brain overload watching this stuff sometimes until you actually dive in and realize its way easier than it initially appears.

You're so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful! The hyper technical deep dives are important, but at the end of the day I think we should try to make the pathway to making music as simple as possible.

Well done. I’m trying to kind of use it as a songwriting tool for chord progressions and such. So for my use case, each cell or whatever you want to call it, is one chord. We’ll see how well it’ll work for that. It seemed potentially useful from my first try. I’ll generally be recording acoustic guitar into it and maybe scratch vocals using my m2 MBP’s internal mics. After I’ve completed the idea, I can start recording stuff with the interface and mics. Wish me luck.
@BradDollar Жыл бұрын
That’s a cool way of using it! There are some plugins out there that will do just that for you, like Chordjam and Captain Chords (although I think that one is just VST). Either way, that’s a great way of experimenting with what works. Wishing you so much luck! Let me know how it goes and if you get something you want to share, I’d love to hear it. Thanks for watching!

Great breakdown, thx! May I ask: How does the direct integration with a PTsession work?
@BradDollar10 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for being here and watching! It’s pretty easy! It basically opens as another window inside of PT. From there when you hit play it’ll play everything in the session + the Sketch clips. Or you can drag the sketch clips into the main timeline.
@michaelsunding447310 ай бұрын
Perfect, thx so much for answering🤗 Sketch might be the thing, that gets me going again in PT at home. I´m a prof. musician/singer7songwriter/composer and think it would be beneficial for me with a quick and well-flowing “vault” for my ongoing creativity…🎶🎹😃
@BradDollar9 ай бұрын
Yes! Open the vault up and start putting ideas in it! Whatever helps you record more of your ideas, more often - do that. This is likely to be a great solution in that direction. Thank you so much again for watching!

I’ve seen a lot of hardcore Ableton folks criticizing this. From what I’ve observed over the past 25 years all DAWs do basically the same things, but they all have their own nuances which work for some people and not for others. They can and should coexist. I’m not a very tech-minded musician and I actually found Logic and Ableton to be way over my head. Others I know think ProTools is too complicated. We’re all “wired” a little differently. I know guys who are all about Logic and hate ProTools. I know others who swear by Ableton and laugh at Sketch. I was late to the Ableton party and have been using ProTools for 20 years, so Sketch really works for me. When preparing for live shows I use Sketch and Novation’s Ampify apps on my iPad. Whatever enables a person to easily be creative is a good thing.

Totally agree! There are no rules. Not to mention that what we use to make music today is going to change over the years no matter how committed we are to a platform. That said, Sketch is rad and I'm glad it's keeping you inspired! Thank you so much for being here and watching!

how do i play a part from my loop on my midi
@BradDollar10 ай бұрын
I think you can just drag an drop what you created onto the timeline. And you should be able to play midi in no problem. Let me know if that works or you’re still having trouble. Appreciate you being here and watching!

I don’t think so. Avid/Pro Tools have never had direct support for VSTs unfortunately. You might be able to use a wrapper but it’s been a long time since I’ve tried that. Appreciate you being here and watching!

I always liked pro tools but I dont use it these days because of the subscription model. Avid put themselves out of the entire Edm market with their model imo.
@BradDollar7 ай бұрын
I think Avid put themselves out of the entire EDM world a long time ago 😂 I will say though, with how much computers, operating systems and DAW versions change, I prefer subscription models. I just don't see any long term value in owning software that is going to become outdated and has next to no resale value. Also, thank you for being here and watching! I super appreciate it.

@@BradDollar Hehe, but the thing is PT's is excellent for Techno when everything is audio yet I don't know of any Techno producer who uses it and across the edm spectrum its very few. Subs: Yeah, but most of us don't need to upgrade every year. Im on Ableton 12, but could easily switch back to 9 or 10. Nothing in Ver 11 or 12 is essential and 12 imho has become bloated. You will learn Brad, and Im here to make sure of that heheh 😉

Hey, I'm here to learn! I'm surprised to hear but that's awesome. As far as audio manipulation goes, there's none better. Who do you feel are some of the must hear techno producers blazing the trail right now? I'd love to check them out.
