My first duty station in the US Air Force was at Gila Bend AFAF (now the Barry Goldwater Gunnery Range) from 1979-1981. Upon leaving for my next station, I stopped in Tucson to visit the PAM. It has obviously grown by leaps and bounds. One of the pictures I snapped that day was of a forlorn looking Grumman F6F Hellcat, sitting outside. Its wheels were missing as well as the propellor. The bottom of the engine cowling was smashed in and the tail was propped up with a short stack of wood pallets. Many years later, I toured the National Museum of Naval Aviation and was admiring an F6F in their collection. The information placard told this planes history and it was recovered from the ocean floor of the Pacific, some distance off the coast of California. On that placard was a near identical photo of the one I took, of the afore mentioned F6F! I was standing in front of the SAME plane I had seen at the Pina Air Museum, so many years ago. I may be mistaken but, that particular Hellcat is no longer at the Pensacola NAS museum.

For a once in a lifetime treat, visit on a Thursday and meet Colonel Richard Bushong at the 390th Memorial Museum right on the grounds of PASM. Colonel Bushong´s career spans 28 combat missions as co-pilot and pilot of B17´s in World War 2, to flying F-4´s in Vietnam. He is a treasure!

Sofi, I was a maintainer of the F-14A for 3 years with VF-142, so naturally I'm biased towards that beautiful jet. I learned to work on her when I was assigned to VF-101 at NAS Oceana way back in the day, under Commander Hank Kleeman, who was one of the two aircrews involved in the shoot down of the Migs in 1981 when he was CO of VF-41. My other favorites are the F-4 Phantom, B-58 Hustler, (don't know if they have one there or not), F-15 Eagle, and the Boeing 707 when it was Air Force 1. I have others but that's a start. I'm so happy to see you branching out. I am a history nut and especially military history. I am very much looking forward to going on these video journeys with you and can't wait for you to start. Thank you!

Ahhh that’s cool! It must be so interesting when work you did every day and news you hear suddenly turns into “history”. I will do my very best to do the F-14 justice- it’s quite popular and quite covered so I will take my time to ensure that content I do adds something new so that folks like yourself who are veryyyy familiar with it can still enjoy the video! The RA-5C Vigilante would be great, the carrier based nuclear bomber turned into recon plane, that flew high speed low level bomb damage assessment missions, aka some of the most dangerous flights of the Vietnam war.
@tonymanero55443 ай бұрын
At Patuxent Air Museum, a retired USAF F-4 RIO told me RA-5 recon flights were especially dangerous because they would go in 20 minutes after a bombing mission for damage assessment and the NV were waiting for it.

I really look forward to this! Not that I don't love the technology behind tanks, but I've always had a fascination with the development of military aircraft, specifically prior to the 70s. I'm amazed that I still discover new airplanes, even as recently as this week. You actually showed a picture standing in front of it- the Fairey Ganett. Interesting switch. Are you getting an aircraft based logo as well now ? :D EDIT: when it comes to planes' picks, I would suggest picking something that is not a fighter plane, something with small cabin, but go with planes that had multiple crew positions on the inside. Often there will be more access to the mechanical systems on the inside on tour, I think, than what you can see in a single-seat aircraft. Flying boats, bombers or some bigger night fighter aircraft would be the theme.
