for solar: oh, on the bald bit... solar was 100% going to shave her head. which is why the staff wanted to stop her. the ceo, though, said "if that's what you really want to do, go for it" because he's never really tried to stifle the creativity of these women in any way. later, some of the staff members showed her how baldcaps work and she decided to go with that ...also, that is indeed one thing about everyone in this group. they want to do something, they're going to do it, damn what anybody says. both of the agency's ceos are used to it (and actually encourage it, at least to a point) but many people are constantly surprised by that ha, and that "how'd she have time for all this?" is the eternal question... solar and moonbyul both like staying active so even when they're supposed to be resting they find things to do. for solar, a lot of that energy has been channeled into her youtube channel, where she constantly tries so many new things. and she's been posting videos at least once, often twice, a week every week for over a year now, no matter how busy she is working on or promoting new music as for their comebacks, it seriously varies. in 2018 we got 4 comebacks in just over a year ("starry night", "egotistic", "wind flower", "gogobebe") then about 11 months later we got "hip". and almost exactly a year after that was "aya". but in that intervening year we got 3 solo albums from 3 of the members (wheein's is coming out some time after they finish with this group comeback)

Actually presently Moonbyul is a host for avengirls audio show... so she invited Seulgi (during Monster promotion) and Soojin (during (G) iddle promotion)as guests in her show ...And yes the fan whom she called was actually Solar

for moonbyul: all three of those songs were byul's solo works. "selfish" (with seulgi) was technically her first official solo song, in the 'red moon' album (alongside "eclipse") but she'd performed songs she wrote before that at concerts and such, or just uploaded on their channel. "eclipse", the second one, was her official solo debut, with a full album, stage performances, concert and everything. "absence" was just something she wrote and performed because she wanted to the concert for 'dark side of the moon' (her album) was done online because of the pandemic. funny enough, solar's solo concert way back in 2018 was the first solo concert for any member of a 3rd gen girl group (and she didn't actually have any solo songs at the time!). moonbyul's solo concert earlier this year was the second solo concert for any member of a 3rd gen girl group. i'm still surprised by that "absence" is written about a woman whose partner was caught cheating on her but she eventually forgave them and got back together. she can't ever be sure they're not continuing to cheat, though, so is constantly worried. there's a lot of pain and sadness in the song, as you'd imagine, but the funny thing is she wrote it about two characters in a drama she was watching at the time and ha, 'yong sunhae' is indeed solar. she made it as a prank to help byul with her nervousness during her first solo vlive, pretending to be her biggest fan. her plan was to get byul to say 'i love yong sunhae', basically 'i love yongsun'. solar expected one of the show's staff to call her and hand the phone over to byul, instead of byul doing it herself, so she answered in her own voice instead of the fake one. and got caught because of that also, moonbyul and seulgi are quite close. as far as whole groups go, mmm and rv are the closest with each other, though individual members might be closer with members of other groups. rv members have said that quite frequently. the two groups realized their vans were next to each other at a stop light leaving a schedule about a year after they both debuted (since they debuted a few months apart) and made their managers pull over so they could exchange numbers. and since then used to hang out together whenever they had any amount of offtime. byul and seulgi mentioned some of that in the show 'idol drama operation team' they were on together (which is where byul and yooa first met). the groups would hang out in the evening 'totally not drinking' until rv realized 11 pm was closing in and they had to get back to their dorm before curfew. sadly, as both groups got more popular they also got busier so had less and less time to hang out together, but they still chat and go to each other's concerts. byul was even a guest on an episode of irene and seulgi's 'level up' alongside joy and it seemed irene was hoping she'd bring at least one other member of mamamoo (probably solar). there's also a fun encore stage video where mamamoo had won against yuju (of gfriend, another group mmm is pretty close with) and red velvet went to congratulate them. instead, mamamoo roped rv and yuju into dancing around onstage and celebrating the victory with them, even giving them the flowers they won (and insisting yuju keep the bouquet they gave her)

"They're so LOUD!" LOL. Welcome to the radish field! Answers to your questions and more info: * Birds & Solar. Solar is fearless on stage and loves to push all sorts of limits (gender, sexuality, idol image, her voice, body, skills & abilities) so you wouldn't think she'd be afraid of birds, bugs, sheep, lobsters and other harmless creatures but she is. She also loves horror movies but is terrified of ghosts and she lost her shit when she encountered the Grim Reaper during a visit to a fun house. She screamed louder than a pack of teenaged girls on a roller coaster, a zip line ride, and while sky diving. * Pole dancing: The live clip was from MMM's must-see, show-stopping performance at the 2018 MAMA Award Show. Solar first pole danced live while doing a cover of Despacito in her solo set during MMM's 2018 4 Seasons S/S concerts. She also did a double pole dance with her teacher that they choreographed to Solar's self-composed solo song Hello. You can find that vid on Solar's yt channel Solarsido. Solar is also fond of aerial wire work and she turned mid-air somersaults during her 4 Seasons S/S solo set and flew over the audience in her solo set during the 2019 4 Seasons F/W concerts. * MMM-TV: They've been uploading MMM-TV episodes since the beginning. You can find them on MMM's yt channel. * "Where does she find the time?!" Solar is the most extreme workaholic in a group of infamous workaholics even by kpop's outrageous work ethic standards. For example, MMM used to make up to 4 appearances a day and didn't take an extended vacation from their debut in 2014 until early this year, and that was at least partly because Wheein was sick and even then the other members used their "off time" to release solo albums and in Solar's case, to release her solo debut song Spit It Out. Solar seems determined not to be outworked by anyone. I think the other members gave up trying to keep up with her and that may be why they formed an unofficial subunit called The Loser's Club. 🤣 * Spit It Out: The song wasn't an enormous hit but it did earn her a win on a music show. Spit It Out also charted on Billboard's world singles chart, making Mamamoo the only kpop group to have all members chart on Billboard while the group was still active (2NE1 did it after they disbanded). * Final comment on Solar: Solar is such a crackhead it takes a while to grasp that she's a very strong leader, which is one of the two main things Purple Hawke left out of this excellent guide. The other is Solar's songwriting. Besides Hello she co-wrote the music & lyrics for Spit It Out and has co-written lyrics for a number of MMM songs, including some of their hits, and wrote the main lyrics for three love songs to moomoos (Moonbyul & Hwasa also contributed rap verses) - I Love You Too, Star Wind Flower Sun, and I'm Your Fan. I find a lot of people see Mamamoo after finding Hwasa first and assume since she has such big charisma on-stage that she is the eldest and the leader lol. I think you'll find, as you watch the Part 2 and more of Mamamoo in general, that each of them are such big characters, it's almost baffling how none of them outshine the other. Honestly,they really are a group with how well each member compliments another rather than overshadowing anyone. Probably why Mamamoo works so well. It's crazy how RBW found and placed all 4 of them in the same group. Such good chemistry, and also, you'll find, so much crackhead energy too! lol

This guide is amazing! I'm going to answer a few of the questions you had. So first with Solar, she is just very hardworking and passionate so she tries to make time for her youtube channel even despite their schedule. I know she's pretty well known for her strong vocals but in my opinion her voice is very versatile and her softer voice and low register are also amazing. Her solo song "Spit it out" is really good and catchy! but unfortunately, mamamoo's solo work is pretty underrated except for Hwasa's because she's one of Korea's it girl. Anyways Solar is amazing and she deserves the world! Now for Moonbyul (she's my bias) I liked that you clarified that she's a real rapper because yes, to be a rapper you also need to write at least most of your raps and that's what she always does, and not only for her parts but she's also a great lyricist in general, very involved in writing Mamamoo's songs. Her singing voice is my favorite because is just so soothing to hear, she has a unique tone and I feel proud to see how confident she feels now while singing compared to the early days. Of course being in a super vocal focused group like MMM she would feel kinda out of place, for example, when you watch their old Inmortal Songs perfomances you will see her standing there waiting for her rap parts while the other girls are belting. Luckily, since their 4 Seasons albums (2018) she started to sing more and now she's out there putting out full covers on youtube :) I would recommend her last one "Trying to say goodbye" because is a beautiful ballad. Oh also, she's our angsty emo girl when it comes to lyrics and emotions in songs lol. She's also the cry baby of the group even if she doesn't seem like it!

Hello, wanted to clear up somethings about Hwasa. Hwasa is easily 1 of the most polarizing figures in kpop. She’s 1 of Koreas it girls( very popular/loved), but she’s simultaneously hated on by kmedia/netizens(similar to Jennie from BP). Kmedia/netizens hate on Hwasa bc she doesn’t fit Kbeauty standards: she’s tan (not milky white), she thicker(not the usual body type), her clothes are “too sexy/inappropriate/revealing” etc. On the other hand, the Korean general public/fellow idols love Hwasa(she’s easily the most well known from MMM. Now I’m gonna try to be as unbiased as possible (I’m a MMM stan/black woman) and lay out some facts about Hwasa past. It’s true Hwasa (and MMM) have done wrong in the past, but only somethings are true, while others are misinformation/mistranslation. True: MMM did blackface(they apologized 4 times), Hwasa said N-word( she sang Beyoncé cover on radio show that gave her lyrics/she apologized/never said it again), and Hwasa wore a durag(no apology but after backlash she never did it again). False: Hwasa called herself “black unnie” (mistranslation), Hwasa tans herself to be darker(no that’s her natural skin tone), she wore Nigerian traditional clothes( no it was upgraded sauna wear), the list goes on.....most things she’s accused of can be traced back to misinformation/mistranslations, but unfortunately haters take those and run w/ them. All this being said Hwasa (and MMM) apologized for their most severe wrongdoing (blackface) & took cultural awareness classes, and never did it again. Personally I forgive them bc I know they’re amazingly genuine people who want to spread happiness and break boundaries for women. I still wholeheartedly love them even tho they’ve made mistakes bc everyone makes mistakes, as long as they’ve learned from & acknowledged those mistakes everything’s okay (in my opinion). 🙂 anyways great reaction as always, I really like your videos 👍🏾

Moonbyul has great rap skills, and is well respected, but she is an idol rapper (learned her trade in the kpop corporate world). There are only a few idols who came growing their skills from a rap based history. They include: LE (EXID) who came from a rap crew called Jiggly Fellaz Miryo (Brown Eyed Girls) who came from a rap crew called Honey Family Yoon Mirae (MFBTY) who is the OG rapper in the kpop world. In the early days, Mamamoo's choreography wasn't as complicated as some groups. In the beginning, the members had to much for themselves, choreography, styling, makeup. It wasn't until later on when they began working with 1Million Studios when their choreography began improving. Their detractors made statements implying that their dancing wasn't difficult on purpose otherwise they couldn't belt out those notes they hit. The choreo for Hip was designed to refute that claim. For the first time in their careers they used headset mics because of the choreo. The members hated the headset mics btw and vowed to never do that again.

reason why other guides dont have the same production: they are not focus on vocal talents and vocal tech with wide variety of genre in their music. not shaming other groups cuz they work with what they have. however, mamamoo is a full package for people who enjoy music and like to try out new sound. the best thing is they always deliver or even exceed expectation.

Aside from 2020 which had the longest break- Mamamoo work too hard all year. In a year they had 4 comebacks with the 4season 4 colour project and concerts on top of that and festivals etc yet Solar uploaded every Monday and Thursday of that year. She's so hard working its crazy

In 6 years they have released 2 albums and 10 mini albums/extended plays. Each one of the girls has released solos, and numerous collabs and OSTs. Appeared on many TV shows such as Queendom, Immortal singer, masked singer, and Hee-Yeol's Sketchbook. Makes me feel a little lazy.

It might seem that Solar is just an easy-going, fun, and most of the time a weird leader, but she's not like this before. She used to be so strict to them (she never had a leader position in her entire life until Mamamoo, she was always the maknae) and it caused conflicts especially between Solar and Hwasa because Solar would often scold Hwasa (Hwasa gained her nickname 'my own way' because she rarely listens to anyone even their CEO. Of Course in KPOP, when you're the leader, you take all the blame and this caused Solar to put all her struggles and frustrations toward Hwasa and the other members too, but she said she only got angry at Wheein ONCE) Anyway, as Hwasa grew up she said she didn't understood Solar before but now she does. Also, Solar now knows how to set their mood, to make them listen to her (she only needs to call them once), and to basically lead the whole group. You can actually see videos where they're obviously scared of Yong Leader lol (especially Wheein).

Duh, I'm in this hole for Mamamoo's Inmortal songs. It's the first thing I saw from them and it's kind of a problem because you'll never go up from there. Make yourself a favor and sit down, turn on your camera and watch Delilah, or Medley, or Way to Sampoo, or whatever, they are all great. Great reaction. I love Irene's smile too.

I'm surprised you don't know mamamoo because it seems like you know a lot of kpop stuff, but I understand mamamoo has always been and it is very different from the standard of girl groups there, this being one of the main factors of her popularity besides pure talent, they are known to always sing live, another difference there, most of the big groups always use resources not mammoo. Vocal queens forever.
