I love that you pointed out Alastor's deal with Vaggie is a "gateway deal", a small genuinely harmless one to start getting them used to the idea. Looked at that way, Alastor's entire stay at the hotel so far has been a strategy to convince Charlie he's a trusted ally. And it's working, even on the other residents, even though they know what he is.

It was only on the second rewatch that I noticed the leitmotif from "More Than Anything" in Charlie's intro monologue. Love it when shows do that!

I love the tiny details you may look for/see on a rewatch, like MTA motif or character themes like the exorcists' guitar riffs (Examples also like character details themselves, like alastor's ears/poses, husk's cat noises, vaggie's ribbon, pen's hat, adam's little expressive nuances, like at 18:39 ) Generally just little details you dont pay attention to the first time, when you dont have to focus on the main view Silly jokes like adam's plate of ribs or the fiddle are nice callbacks, for me :')

@GedanJ And of course, there's the characters who pop up in crowds throughout the series -- just off the top of my head, I remember spotting Angel's older brother Arakniss and twin sister Molly among the crowds in two different scenes, and one of the planned additions to the Hotel's staff, Baxter the anglerfish Deep One, popped up right before the finale (and of course, Trevor jumped from the pilot to a couple appearances in Episodes 1 and 4). I honestly wouldn't be shocked if we spot familiar faces from _Helluva Boss_ in the background at some point, too!

Fun fact: the reason why Lucifer asked Charlie to meet Adam in his place was because he didn't want to be in the same room with his wife's ex. I mean, if there is one person Lucifer truly dislikes, then that's the one that tried to force his greatest love to submit to him despite being equals. That's what Charlie realized when she said "That explains so much", that her father only gave her that meeting to "dodge a bullet".

I have a feeling a lot of little things also fell into place for Charlie at that moment, like "no wonder mom always said she doesn't regret Falling, even if she and dad split later. Hell is so much better than eternity with this guy."

Despite what you say, I'm pretty sure the pilot isn't full canon at this point, just soft canon. The broad strokes of what happened is true, but a lot of the details aren't. I wouldn't trust anything more than Charlie proposing the hotel on the news channel, being humiliated by Angel getting involved in a turf war, Alastor offering his help, and the general relationship between characters. This is in addition to anything directly referenced in the show itself. One example of a thing definitely not canon is Katie Killjoy mentioning there being 9 circles of hell (Helluva Boss confirms 7 named after the deadly sins). One that I suspect isn't canon anymore is the phone call Charlie gives to her mother ('s answering machine) where she says she fears her father was right about her. It implied her father having a negative view of her and her ambitions, but the show itself indicates that he has been too absent to even know anything she was doing. He seems to care too much about her to outright say she's a failure or some such thing, and it's kind of hard to say her ambitions are foolish if he doesn't even know what those ambitions are.

same thing happened to helluva boss just to a much harder extent broad strokes the pilot is "cannon" but the details didnt they're imps that run an assassination business for new dead sinners, loona is adopted by blitz and runs the front desk, m&m are a married, they use stolas's book to get to earth, blitz and stolas have a physical relationship.... and that's pretty much all that is still canon from the pilot hell stolas's personality is different between the show proper and the pilot

The failure part may have been Lilith driving a wedge in to further separate Charlie from Lucifer or is a reference to how he failed and "knows" the hotel isn't going to work to which she proves otherwise

Georgia Dow, a therapist who posts character analysis videos on YT, straight up called Adam a narcissist. 😂 And that’s a term that a lot of therapists on YT don’t like to use a lot just because of its over-saturation in non-clinical discussions (or at least the therapists I watch on YT don’t, YMMV). It’s actually rather understandable that he got that way, but that’s not to use it as an excuse. If there’s any human in the Hellaverse that’s Old Enough to Know Better, it’s literally Adam! (I also love to hate him. He’s a very well-done villain and his villain song rocks.)

You know, in some cases, narcisists are actually quite insecure. They hide their insecurities behind a sense of superiority in order to cope and try to compensate by making themselves look better than anyone. I feel that's what happens with Adam. I mean, he was rejected by his first wife who prefered an angel (a being considered to be superior to any human) and then his second wife (the one made especifically FOR him) gladly accepted the gift of knowledge from the same angel that got the love of his first wife. Seeing both his wives choosing Lucifer over him may have caused him to feel so insecured that he put on a facade while dwelling on the fact he was the first man from where all humanity came to compensate his sense of inferiority, creating this toxic masculinity he embodies.

@@rafaelmatos5851 My understanding is that in most cases, it’s a sense of superiority masking insecurity. And that insecurity may be buried so deep that the individual can’t recognize it anymore. But recognizing the explanation of behavior doesn’t excuse it. He’s had thousands of years to reach out for help and work on himself, and he’s only doubled down. At some point people need to face consequences for their actions, and you can only extend sympathy so far before that goodwill bucket runs dry.

I love/hate Adam. I can't take him seriously, his misogny is hilarious, he also looks/acts like my ex which adds to my love/hate of the character. As an actual person, he's the worst. As a characture of a walking douche cannoe, he's hilarious and one of my favourite characters. I feel it's similar to those Valentino fans. There's a ton of people who love him for his voice, his design, and what an awful person he is. They don't love him because he's awful and condone his actions, they like watching a villain be a villain. And as much as I just hate hate Val, I do love his voice (his VA is apparently a sweetheart) and I hope he gets a song next season. Apanetly the V's will be the main antagonists next season.
