I am so beyond excited for you guys!!! I was thinking the entire time you were talking to gabby about where to put her bed, get a couch! It’s so awesome, she almost has a studio apartment, I’m sure she’s so excited. Depending on what she does after high school it could be a great set up for her for quite some time. I think you guys will make the barn(s) amazing! One thing that would be really cool, wherever you put the tack room, is throw up some Sheetrock or something, and you could hang pictures and put decor up in there, make it pretty AND functional! And you could even have a dedicated space for each horses tack, where there saddles and bridles are together, and maybe put a cupboard by each space where their blankets and fly masks, and all the extra stuff could be stored! Ugh, I’m just so excited for you guys! What are you going to do about an arena?

For Chino you could potentially let him have an hour a day with a different horse in his dirt paddock, it would give willow a chance to play with the others and would still let Chino have fun with a different horse so he can still play and socialise a bit. You could potentially give him an hour in the grass paddock with supervision but if he can’t have grass it may be too risky

Why don't you make a bare track system for all of them then you can have hay stations along the tracks. It will keep them moving too so no weight problems for any of them

I wish you were closer so you could help out, too, lol! That house just feels like home, even though it's outdated. I grew up in a historic part of town in a big old house full of wood and high ceilings. We're used to having more room to move around and more bathrooms lol. The girls are having so much fun setting up their rooms. I've never seen them work so hard.

I really love the wooden feature wall in Gabby’s ‘studio’ room 🤣 Could you make the tack room into a wash/ grooming bay? Could put in proper cross-ties and maybe even get a solarium eventually. The paddock to the left of the winter field (the one at 21:00) would be a good place to have an arena, if you don’t convert a barn into one. Can still use it for turnout so it’s not completely lost land 24/7! Really like the idea of that dirt paddock and winter paddock idea, Laura. Can always turn the other horses in there for some play time in the mornings, for example!

I would keep chino to the dirt paddock. Its better for him and yall have already been struggling with him for quite a while. You could try to put him out for an hour with the herd and then bring him back in. If anything i would converse with gabby to see how much of a risk she wants to take with him since hes her riding horse. You could put shale or something in the dirt padock to prevent it from getting as muddy as well to help chino. I bet yall are already imagining what you could do with this area. I was thinking a wash stall. Also i think that tackroom looks as big as the one at your old barn where you got storm, sabrina, and stella.

You guys will have to get a Polaris ranger side by side to be able to get around at the new farm since it’s so big 😂 I remember when my family moved to our farm the first thing we naught was one and it was a LIFE changer!! Now we have 2 dirt bikes, a four wheeler and a side by side!

Have you seen the movable chicken track? It's like an above ground tunnel thing, so it's covered and they are protected, but they can forage in new areas when you shift it. I think there are also movable enclosures, you could take them there for part of the day and move it around the area over time. They get to forage, but they are protected.

The thing with Chino is tough, I have two (big) ponies, one of them can go on grass, the other one absolutely can’t, at least not during the laminitis high-risk seasons, so they have to be separated by a fence a couple of months a year and although neither of them seems to mind, it still makes me sad. Maybe you could create some herd time for Chino by having them all together in the dirt paddock a couple of hours a day. In my experience, horses prefer being indoors around mid-day when it’s hot outside, maybe the dirt paddock could be connected to the run-in, then you could get all the horses into their stalls for lunch and afterwards leave them in the dirt paddock with the run-in open, so they can chill in the shade and socialise…Also, as I understand it, you got the bigger farm because you want more animals, so you could get another small pony that shouldn’t have a lot of grass (maybe a rescue?) to go in the paddock with Chino and Willow and then they could form their own little herd.

I love being able to read peoples thoughts. I actually could make 2 smaller herds. Penny, Chino, and Willow get along great and storm, and Gracie actually fit one another quite well. Gracie seems to do better with a strong leader. Penny loves grass, though, and is serious about her grazing. However, we could make the indoor/ run-in space a mutual space for them to visit over the fence. That way, they could socialize and be inside during the heat if they want to. Thank you! So many things to think about!!!

Wow--congratulations!! My first question is where are you going to put the outdoor arena? Is there a space for an indoor arena? This is very exciting. How good is your internet service? I know you have had issues from time to time in the 'current' location. If Sophie wants her TV at the end of her bed you could put a cabinet or a shelving system at the foot of the bed & the TV could sit on top of it. In order to keep Chino away from the grass you could create a dirt paddock with a summer grazing field along one side & the "winter" field along another side. That way all of the horses can chase each other up & down along the fence line all year long. Since Willow can only do limited grazing so she doesn't overeat, she can be in the paddock with Chino.

It is really exciting to have a new farm to play with and to build. If I may make a suggestion: make a list of the needs of each one of your horses. Think about how they gt along. Think about who can be on grass and who can't. Think about who is buddy sour when they are taken away, etc.. and think about the way you want to do things with your routine and how you do it now and the changes you would/could make. THEN, go and apply that information to your barn structures. Splitting field, making paddocks, runs and aisles may be some things you didn't consider previously. So before you make any permanent infrastructure changes, think about the animals you have now and any potential new horses you may add to your herd.

I agree, but it sucks. Our girls love chino. He is peaceful and kind to them. Storm is a tyrant that never gives them a moment of peace, lol. Plus, I know he loves them, and they love him. It just makes me sad. Penny loves chino. There's always winter right!
