I'm a forever GM. Guess what, it's easier to use solo oracles and conjecture tables to simulate players than it is to emulate a GM. You can play any game you want, any scenario you want and you don't have to wait for Timmy Toobusytoplaytonight. In fact, you can even use solo rules to run PC companions and helpers if you only have the one or two consistent player but everyone wants to play something truly grand and daring. Like playing out the journey of the One Ring.

Fun fact: In Japan, they call it ‘Table TALK Role Playing Games’. Which actually makes a lot more sense. I mean, is it really necessary to add ‘top’ after ‘table’ so people don’t get confused about how they’re supposed to use a table…?

In Germany, the names are completely different. They're called "Pen and Paper" RPGs (with the English term), while "Tabletop Games" (also with the English term) is used exclusively for miniature wargames.

I've been a long-time SUSD fan and remember Quinn's segment on RPGs on the channel way back when so diving into the hobby has been something in the back of my mind for years now. It was sharp, it was funny- but what hooked me was the the space you allotted at the end to meet with Indians at the board game meet up and labor to ensure your narrative did not otherize the country. I was just playing Brass with my older brother who got me into board games. I was telling him that recently I have been waning on my interest in board games. I find that I would much rather play games where the focus is the people around the table, unlike euro games, but still has me thinking, unlike party games.
