Introducing System 100 - Behringer Eurorack Modular Synthesizer

Introducing eleven new Eurorack compatible modules - all of them authentic reproductions of original “System 100M” circuitry from 1975. With ultra-fat oscillators and creamy filters the sound became famous in the early 80s used by artists like Depeche Mode, Human League, Tears For Fears but also Vangelis, Tangerine Dream and even Aphex Twin.

If you’re into super-fat bass sounds, in-your-face leads or flowing soundscapes, definitely check them out! All modules are incredibly feature rich, have tremendous patching capabilities and a lot of them come with dual function, like:
- 112 dual oscillator with 3 waveforms, PWM and two sync modes
- 121 dual filter with 3-channel mixer per filter
- 130 dual VCA, again with dual 3-channel mixers
- 140 dual envelope has 3 outputs per ADSR plus a built in LFO that can be triggered and phase synced
- 173 gates module comes even with four gates that can switch audio and 6 quad buffered multiples

Drum modules, tape delay, granular reverb would be great. These are beautiful modules by the way. Please keep any future modules looking clean like this. A lot of Eurorack modules out there are just confusing looking. I hope this Eurorack venture for Behringer is not a one off. It sure will be fun to buy some new modules every month or so without shelling out hundreds of dollars for something that essentially does a portion of what a standalone synthesizer can do for almost the same price sometimes.

I doubt they can do any original design work at these prices. If those modules you want aren't clones of old technology I don't think it's gonna happen. All of the properly innovative Eurorack modules are going to stay at their price because they are actually unique. The overpriced clones will probably fall off. If you want the innovation of software technology in a hardware package you're going to have to pay. Obviously not counting the inevitable Mutable Instruments Behringer clones.

Ne Valja I try to praise a company for making affordable Eurorack modules and you insult me for it. Here’s an example of what I meant; I can buy a full stand-alone Korg Monologue synth with a built in sequencer for $200-300 or I can buy some Eurorack sequencers for the same price. This doesn’t mean that I don’t appreciate the flexibility and creativity of Eurorack. It means I just dislike the general prices of Eurorack gear. I’ve been assembling my Eurorack synths for years and spent enough to feed a small country. It will just be nice to see some affordability in Eurorack for a change. Hopefully, other companies will follow suit, but I doubt it.

@@TangoWithTheCobra I think Mason's point is that the price is not just the cost of making, shipping and selling the thing, it has to cover the R&D and design time, and that's presuming that the quality of construction, testing and quality control are equal. Hence it's easier to clone existing circuits than design something new and unique, which is Behringer's advantage. Eurorack certainly is "expensive" but the guys making these things are not ripping you off, they're not getting ridiculously rich in this business, they might be making a reasonable living but the man-hours are enormous. My guess is a lot of these folk would be raking in more money getting jobs designing boring stuff for some big company making widgets and white goods. Not dissing Behringer...they're making stuff I always wanted at price I can afford so that's great too.

These look super cool, I'll definitely be picking some up when they hit the market. At some point it would be great to see you guys make a case that accepts and powers standard eurorack modules but also has a built-in keyboard with a mod/pitch wheel - sort of like a build your own Moog Grandmother-type product. Great work. I think this is important for Behringer in two ways: firstly as a very affordable way to get into the fully modular synth environment and music making, and secondly as a means of declaring very clearly that they are to be taken seriously in the music tech world (and in the synth world in particular). If someone has been living under a rock for the past years and has failed to realise (or acknowledge) that with their faithful and very budget-friendly reissues (or equipment in general including new designs), it is now quite impossible to deny as they can show they have the credentials for it. I'm really glad, also due to the fact that they provide the means of unique inspiration with hardware that me (and millions of others) would not be able to afford otherwise.

Now that Behringer has discovered this(and since they already own a company that manufactures Curtis chips), we may see all manner of retro analog! We could see Prophet 5/10/VS, OB8/Xa, etc. It's just amazing. BUT, what may be REALLY interesting, is that they now possess all these designs and the DeepMind began as a Juno 106(have you seen the side-by-sides w/ Prophet 6 and OB6??? I have one. The DeepMind is AMAZING). They have the MS-20 designer, Nishijima, heading their synth development in Japan. They could design an analog synth that would make the Matrixbrute, or Moog ONE look like a Timbre Wolf.

You don't think they're gonna stop with the System 100 do you? They will continue to pound out their own versions of popular modules like "Maths, etc.." plus their own unique modules and they will cost no more than $100. I'm not saying that this is going to happen over night. Give it 5 years tops and you'll see my friend. It's a game changer for the entire industry and many big name Euroack manufactures will suffer from it if they don't deflate their prices.

@@ryanmoran8366 Erica Synths already has pretty affordable modular systems (500 to 1000 usd). VCV rack is for a large part free. Cherry Audio has a very nice virtual modular system. Thing with modular is though that it really isn't made for that many people. It is hard to use, to put it midly. So even though it looks very desirable with all the little lights and knobs and cables really not that many people get something out of it. It's a small market. The prices are high because the production is on a small scale because very few people use this stuff. I think behringer had the right idea woth the semi modular stuff where everyone can fairly easily use it. With this system my guess is that we will see a huge spike in sales followed by a huge supply on the second hard market because of buyers regret. But hey maybe I'm wrong.

All of those already exist and they can't copy existing patents, these are exact copied of patents that expired some time ago...However that being said...www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/fh2.html would be the best for midi to cv. The Mimeophon from Make Noise is your granular delay/reverb/ Your pitch quantiser would be an ACL Sinfonion as your best bet. Hope that helps...

A 2 tier and 3 tier 104hp case would be nice, with power supply. Progammable clock source with time divisions. I think we are going to need an interface module that takes MIDI/USB MIDI in, and creates pitch control voltage, trigger and gate signals out, and maybe also pitch bend and modulation and aftertouch signals (and other controller data?) as voltages out. There could be a monophonic version and a polyphonic version with some kind of round-robin voice assignment and multiple pitch CV, trigger and gate outs, one for each voice.

Would be nice to see a set of drum modules and more importantly a trigger sequencer with conditional triggers. Also more west coast style modules such as the serge modular (wave multiplier!!!! and NTO).
