@Brandon Gant yes its easy. The 6g7 blocks are very reliable the only trick is to change timing belt every 70k miles and chamge oil often. And i mean often. Since yours is an 03 i siggest you remove the butterfly valves in the intake manifold asap

Gen2 is such nice balance of boxy and little rounded corners :)) I had 93SR that I paid $400 too and that I jumped too ! Lol. I did nose dive on landing. Nothing in front end was broken but the steering that fell on my lap 😅

My introduction to Monteros was a 97 that I bought for $700 with 265k on original everything. Changed some shift solenoids, and drove it to Cabo from Cali with plans to ditch it when it blew up, or when I broke it wheeling. 6000 mile trip with heaps of 4 wheeling, never missed a beat. Just fed her oil and gas. Turned into a round-trip trip. Now I have an '05 She was dubbed 'ghetto blaster', got it from the ghetto with two bullet holes in it! No title, just sprinted to the border.

I drove my '95 Montero with similar mileage from Seattle to Baja to participate in the Baja XL. We drove about 3000 miles off-road in Baja in 10 days. We limped home with three gears in the transmission and a broken rear spring but made it with no other problems. Now building a 2005 Montero for the Baja XL 2023

Hoopdi do! I thought I had a lemon 2! I have a near mint Gen 2 96' LS, under 150K and its been an oli leak fixer upper. Ever since I replaced the rear cam seals, valve covers, spark plugs, wires and plenum gaskets. Its an Indy car! although, I now have a coolant pump leak/fix waiting to be fixed... I might look to sell it!

Greay video, love your channel. One thing, are you a mechanic? I recall that you mentioned in an earlier video that you aren't and that you learnt a lot by working on your gen 3. You seem very capable. Cheers, keep it up !
@montanamontero2 жыл бұрын
thanks man! i am not currently a mechanic, and i don't have any formal training, all self taught, mostly from working on these cars. the Gen 3 was the first car i really worked on. i actually decided to start this channel just to help others along their own journey of being self taught. i did spend 6 months working in a shop as a mechanic but that was just a short season. I probably have the skills to do it full time (at an entry level position), but i'm far from an expert and have a ton to learn and grow in.

Say for offroading+roadtrips would you prefer the gen 2 or gen 3? i got a gen 2 exceed back home but importing it would be so expensive, and i don't have any experience whatsoever with the gen 3
@montanamontero2 жыл бұрын
this is a good question, i hope to address if fully in a future video. the gen 3 is much more comfortable on the road, and it is very capable offroad. so i'd say it takes my vote. but for more intense wheeling gen 2 wins all day
@RUX70N2 жыл бұрын
Prices of the MK2 are now increasing, you did well at $400. For half decent one in the UK you are now about £4000 and to import a grade 4 from Japan is now about 10k.

Been looking at Montero for some time. I’m trying to decide on the 3rd gen between NM and NP. NP has the 3.8 but I like the look of the NM better (lights grille and wheels)
@montanamontero2 жыл бұрын
I agree that the NM is the better looking model, but the mechanical advantages of the 3.8 and five speed trans speak for themselves
@Jabid212 жыл бұрын
@@montanamontero Thanks for writing back. I’ll get the NP if I can find a clean one at a good price, which is pretty hard to find.

Who makes these rocksliders? We have a 1996 Pajero GLS 3.5 24V and I was searching for rocksliders and underbody protection. The fun story is that my girlfriend wanted the Pajero and not a Land Cruiser.

these were originally Jeep JK sliders that i cut up and then welded on myself. If you have the skills to do that, you can use just able any sliders as a base platform and work from there
