Long time 7600 and 7300 owner here. Love the form factor and separate control head, but I can't help but wonder why we're still stuck with essentially the same software, UI and feature set for decades. First, decide whether you want your rig to be used with a PC or standalone. If it's meant for use with a PC, you don't need built in RTTY and PSK just because the old radios had it. But you do need to figure out something like TCI for interfacing with the PC in addition to audio and serial over USB, which can be cumbersome to use in more complex setups. If your rig is intended to be used standalone, then you absolutely need to support as many digi modes as possible, ideally also MMSSTV, FT*, JS8Call and so forth. And it needs a plug-in system that users can develop their own modules for. So immediately I see two different products that icom could have, one PC-focused transceiver with a minimal front panel (if any) but excellent PC connectivity over LAN and with TCI or something similar, and another product that is meant for standalone use which has a large screen, lots of front panel controls, and built-in support for digimodes without requiring a PC to operate. Last but not least, the price. If your product had all the features mentioned above, it would still be hard to swallow at over 6000 USD, but it would at least stand out from the likes of Flex. But this? It looks nice but it's a hard pass for me. This amount of money buys a LOT of 7300s along with power supplies.

Seems this is the future for large HF radios. Separate head unit and big heavy black box hidden away under operating desk. A real mistake to exclude 4 metres, will it be retro-fitted by demand with a firmware update?

No support for 4 meter band. Many countries have acces to 70 Mhz.

I am reluctant to buy expensive radio , due to service / repair availability , and relatively short span of parts availability.

Yaesu should focus on a similar product…. Love them and I was looking to buy an FT101MP but unfortunately, now No! They are just so slow to release new product - always late to the show with new developments. The 7760 will be my first break from Yaesu brand of ham radios.

The 101 is fantastic. It will be interesting to see how thos compares on the Sherwood table.

Build a radio with 200 watts that will work on all bands including up to 27GHz . , stop making what you already have.
