Channel aftertouch should be _standard_ on every synth today. It's such an easy to implement feature, just needing a monophonic ribbon incorporated into the keybed design. Synths at the premium level should be providing _polyphonic_ aftertouch these days. Why on Earth would bog standard channel aftertouch ever be left off a keybed these days?
@Jason75913 Жыл бұрын
They want you to buy the flagship if you want that. I don't think that strategy is ever going away, or it could have since last century.
@Wagoo Жыл бұрын
It should be the flagship for polyphonic-aftertouch, but the lower level cheaper ones all have at least channel-aftertouch
@Wagoo Жыл бұрын
@@dvamateur there is a third option. Fatar now make polyphonic-aftertouch keybeds.. you can find it in the Waldorf Iridium (4 octave) or Waldorf Quantum mk2 (5 octave).. and it'll be in the forthcoming Aodyo Anyma Omega I would think Korg should be able to develop their own, though. Yamaha managed it nearly 50 years ago..
@Jason75913 Жыл бұрын
@@Wagoo I'm thinking that the one way to get a lot more keyboardists into aftertouch (because they would hate to have to be careful to not accidentally trigger it when undesired) is to have a lower-tier keyboard implement it with a toggle switch next to the mod wheel to enable it (off by default). So keyboardists pick up a new model as usual, then discover aftertouch with the toggle button. Most will hate it at first, but given enough time and boredom during practice and rehearsals, they start learning to adjust their playing to it and learning to use it to add to their expressiveness, then word will spread among them to turn it on and learn to use it, baiting many into it and thus creating demand for it in the non-flagship models. Poly can be reserved for the flagship. At this point, I think we are stuck with Behringer, Akai, or Native Instruments potentially trying to pull this off if they ever try dipping into the lower tier rompler market. The Akai keybaord has aftertouch and is priced to compete with Krome, Fantom-06, and MODX. Man, I can't wait for Native Instruments to bust out a Kontakt keyboard to compete with the MPC Key and the popular models from Roland, Yamaha, and Korg. They already make great hardware controllers. They could even try and make minikey synths akin to JD-Xi, Native's M32 has the best keybed of any mini controller (though it lacks aftertouch). All of their controllers, like many other pro audio products, run ARM SoCs, so they are already involved with programming for ARM mobile CPUs, which is probably fundamental to getting a good working design for their own rompler keyboard. Maschine+ is their first foray into a standalone unit. I think a Kontakt keyboard or so is the next logical step.
@Wagoo Жыл бұрын
@@dvamateur I mean by that token, Korg is a much bigger company than Fatar is. If they bring out a new OASYS/Kronos then hopefully they include a poly-at keybed. It's not some exotic new technology, it's just something missing from a lot of flagship synths. But channel-at is such a simplistic system, that it simply should be a feature on every keybed already I'm not sure if Roland do actually spin up their own chips anymore, because the chip they use in everything (BMC, newer version of the ESC2) is a quad core ARM based processor.. so they would need quite an advanced chip fab node with a small nanometer size to be able to spin it up with a reasonable amount of performance. I suspect those are made by a partner like Toshiba and then labelled Roland But I'm not against Korg's usage of intel boards (or Raspberry Pi ARM boards in wavestate/opsix/modwave) as it means replacements are available on the market easily should they ever need to be swapped years down the line, increasing the longevity of the hardware

This "new" Korg Nautilus is actually just Kronos in new package, with pretty much the same specs. Only real difference is that operating system is slightly simplified which is a good thing coz' the original Kronos while it's really powerful and probably the most versatile synthesizer and workstation on the market, with you can basically do the whole song, but it is definitely way too complicated to use. I still have the Kronos i bought 2012 and i'm not changing it out for a while. Anyway, i could consider to purchase the Nautilus, if Korg would release a new enhanced version of it, which in my perspective should include more sampling and audio recording capacity and run at 24bit/96khz while current Nautilus as well Kronos work at 24bit/48khz, so you could produce a real Hig-Res audio quality music with it...
@Jason759135 күн бұрын
Hi-res is accomplished by cherry-picking recording gear and processing tools and techniques, higher sample rates are bogus. If I made you listen to 96kHz/24-bit music and then made a downsampled copy of that in 44.1kHz/24-bit and forced you to tell the two apart in a blind test, I guarantee you would fail miserably.

While this nautilus sounds a bit like a midi can (at least in the demos), with very few controls, it would seem like going backwards... it's def not a candidate on my list.
