actually, I offered to return it. I regularly get new synths in, and some have to go to make room. I don't have time to play them all. and it doesn't feel right to sell gear that's been donated. i'm making videos anyway, so it's great to feature new synths without me having to buy them. it's basically free rental and everyone wins, me, the brands and the audience. perhaps when korg release something new, then I'll trade up!

Sadly I don't think that Korg has significantly improved the quality of its lacklustre acoustic and electric guitar programs which aren't really much improved from those in my 1995 Trinity! Their PA series arrangers have phenomenal guitar programs so Korg obviously have the ability to improve these sounds but choose not to for some strange reason! Perhaps they're frightened that sales of their PA strangers would be affected, who knows?

A reincarnation of the M1 would mean being state of the art in every way, and by an order of magnitude more advanced than anything on the market, at an attractive price, more portable than other advanced synths, with incredible programming of sound libraries and a huge sysex sound library to tap into like the DX7 did. Nautilus falls flat next to the M1 in all those areas.

As my user name implies, I am the man to come to about Piano key baby! The keybed of this Korg is the NEW-OLD PANASONIC-TECHNICS-MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC designed keybeds used in the older(1980s) Technics keyboards but with the same semi-weighted fronts that were more common on the 1990s designed keyboards from Technics like the KN flagship arrangers. The SX-A7 arranger from the late 80s had the same keys as this unit, hence your SHORT travel, but with the front steel weights of the more expensive 1990s KN series and some of the 1980s flagship Church Organs. The modern comparison is the Korg M3 workstations(61-73),which were the FIRST in the mid 2000's to readopt the old PANASONIC-Technics keys from the 1980s-90s but with slight difference: BRIGHT WHITE COLOR naturals, and MATTE TEXTURED flats and sharps black keys. The synth you compared with the Triton has the cheaper style Panasonic portable keyboards series key-strip keys that are found ironically, on most of Korg's PA series late mid 2000s keyboards, the M50,R3,PA600,PA500,most of the K controllers with full sized keys and so on. The Korg M3,Kronos, and this Nautilus use the better revised Technics keys. No Aftertouch is strange considering most keyboards just use a resistive felt strip under the front of the black keys,middle of white keys like always... Hmm. Anyway, the TRITON action you love so much is manufactured by YAMAHA and is the YAMAHA DX7 series 61 note keybed complete with the metal switches,felt strip aftertouch strip, and slightly smaller width keys with slightly LONGER key length. The Panasonic keys are slightly wider and shorter. The new Korg recent release 88 note keybeds are entirely NEW design, not copied from older engineering specs used by the 61-73 note versions from 1980s keybeds. Ok, the Kronos, has an INTEL ATOM 1.8ghz mini itx x86 computer system powered by LINUX Gentoo and custom bits including custom KORG electronics and Korg OS. The Nautilus MAY BE ARM based computer now, and from the interface I saw, seems to still be LINUX, along with the Korg OS custom bits. The ARM based cpu is found on the Raspberry Pi mini micro computer boards and is by far cheaper and runs cooler and more efficient than INTEL and so I am only assuming but a safe bet, this is the direction they went with this keyboard. Only taking it apart will tell you for sure but there ya have it! Hope this helps and sheds some light WHY the difference in these Korgs across time and space lol!

Woody you're one of the most entertaining reviewer I've ever seen: while you play a keyboard your face is better than any other star-based evaluation system :-D .. this Nautilus deserve more in dept research... at first sight it remember me a lot of my Krome (yes Krome has less synth engines) but these specific Korg choices (less Knobs, less display, less button, ....) feel like a deja-vù!. I own also a Yamaha Modx7 that make me feel like a baby in a toycenter every time a dig into the enormous options offered by that Yamaha synth-beast... A comparison in my opinion is not needed... too much distance between this 2 machines.. and I'm very pleased that Korg did not choose to develope an anti-Modx clone or similar... maybe those buttons push down also for avoiding losing buttons as you pack or remove the keyboard from the case

I'd like to be able to justify getting a new keyboard but even after 30 years, my Yamaha SY55 along with the MIDI out and Logic Pro X, does everything I need it to. Even so, great review on a very nice keyboard.

that's a golden oldie! the improved connectivity of modern keyboards is nice, if you're connecting to PC. audio and midi over usb is convenient.

What?😮 I thought it is kronos Nautilus! Imo, it's a weird name for a synth-keyboard. When has been released? I'm so ah.. 😵😲😳
@getitcaptured3 жыл бұрын
Ye the name seems fitting because it's watered (Nautilus) down... No faders, No aftertouch But it sounds good
@Talia.7773 жыл бұрын
@@getitcaptured yeah exactly. It seems korg has put so many sounds loop. kinda like korg wavstate.. a lil bit. and it has many pattern rhythms which are good though But why f**king $2000 You can even buy a used kronos 61 with the best condition for $2000 Kronos has the best keybed.... By the way touch screen has lag..... somewhere i read it's of resistive kind of screen 😲

Love the piano samples. I'm guessing the Nautilus would receive and process channel D so aftertouch from a lower 88 weighted keyboard controller could change filters and such. If I were using this on gigs I would definitely be pushing in those knobs during transport.

I agree after touch would be a plus

I'm excited on how roland will cope up to this keys 😇😇

Nice presentation Woody. If it had aftertouch I would probably go for one but a little pricey without. Surprised Korg are still sticking with Combi and Program Modes when Roland and Yamaha of gone down the Performance route.

hi kevan, i'm grateful for this, the "everything is a performance" does my head in, especially when combining multi-performance performances into a multi-timbral performance, your head is surely hurting too now :)

@@WoodyPianoShack Just to let you know that on the back of this video I considered getting a Nautilus but found a brand new Kronos 61 for the same price. Just in the process of creating some similar performances from my MODX into Combis. It seems more time consuming to bring the insert effects across from program mode to combi mode, but it can be done. Really looking forward to getting to grips with Kronos though.😊

The smooth sound transition function is present on my Kronos2 as well, its a great feature to not have the existing program/combi sound cut off when changing. (Wish it was possible on the Triton as well).

Great review I must say! Then again I'm reliefed that It wasn't "Kronos 3" that I have to sell my car to have it. For now I'm happy with my Kronos 2!

You know, Woody, when you play back in the high life again, it’ll sell any product. I hope you play it again when you demo next time. I can’t shake it from the pianotec vs grandeur vs modx demo.

Seriously they should've just let you keep it forever in exchange for this great review.
@ShallRemainUnknown3 жыл бұрын
Woody said he could keep "indefinitely". Do you really think after this synth is discontinued in 2 to 4 years (and then worthless to Korg) Korg will bother to pay equivalent of $150+ USD to have him ship back to Japan, when the thing only cost Korg $300 to manufacture in the first place?
@jonluther5993 жыл бұрын
Wow, that’s a beautiful song, and the pianos are amazing on this thing. I’ll never get a decent computer and recording software. I believe at this point, I could make the album I am working on straight from this device.

the USB A can also be used for another MIDI controller like Korg nanoKontrol2 to control programs with faders, or another keyboard. Also, where are the Farfisa/Vox engines

Sounds like Korg's answer to Yamaha's Modx. I have the Kronos 2. I'd love..to see an actual side by side comparison.
