Send for free, but expecting it to be returned. Yamaha gave him it's competitor, the MODX. We can see what company is more serious about marketing their synth.

actually, I offered to return it. I regularly get new synths in, and some have to go to make room. I don't have time to play them all. and it doesn't feel right to sell gear that's been donated. i'm making videos anyway, so it's great to feature new synths without me having to buy them. it's basically free rental and everyone wins, me, the brands and the audience. perhaps when korg release something new, then I'll trade up!

To be honest ive use a M1 before and the M1 kills the Nautilus in sound quality and the fact that it has Aftertouch. I love my Nautilus but vintage keyboard like the M1 01w roland D50 Yamaha Dx7 the korg N264/364 and many other vintage keyboard are way better in sound quality. You know what they say the quality of the vintage keyboard sound better then most modern keyboards.

This is a nice surprise by Korg. I realy like the fresh new design and it also seems to have the build quality that Korg is known for. Most importantly, I liked almost everything I heard and I would choose a good arpeggiator over Karma anytime. But that is personal obviously. The best surprise was to learn about this interesting new instrument on my favourite keyboard channel. I look forward to you future videos on the Nautilus. Thank you Woody!

This is a great review, as always¡¡¡ It calls my attention that many people prefer a keyboard over another just for the piano sounds. Come on¡¡¡ if you own a kronos or this keyboard, you know you can edit the sounds the way you want. Nine engines, a powerful sequencer, karma, 12 insert effects, you can combine up to 16 sounds, wave sequence¡¡¡¡¡ I tell you this, there is no other workstation tha can do so much as Kronos and in second place, this new keyboard, nor modex, nor Roland fantom or nord stage, period. If what you want is a piano that sounds well, buy a stainway.

Also Woody the purpose of the parameter knobs that push in, is not only so you can't accidentally turn them while they are pressed in. It's also used for transportation reasons, so that you don't damage it in transit while they are pressed in.

Hi Woody, Excellent job on the review. The smooth sound transition is definitely on the Kronos as well and a great feature at that. I love to be able to change sounds on the fly while sustaining the strings and the switch to a lead sound without a dropout! Glad to see the Nautilus keeps this great feature.

Considering how the Montage edges the Kronos when it comes to authentic-sounding guitar sounds of all types, here’s hoping those have been addressed in what looks to be a significant voices update. 🤞🏾 🤞🏾

Sadly I don't think that Korg has significantly improved the quality of its lacklustre acoustic and electric guitar programs which aren't really much improved from those in my 1995 Trinity! Their PA series arrangers have phenomenal guitar programs so Korg obviously have the ability to improve these sounds but choose not to for some strange reason! Perhaps they're frightened that sales of their PA strangers would be affected, who knows?

A reincarnation of the M1 would mean being state of the art in every way, and by an order of magnitude more advanced than anything on the market, at an attractive price, more portable than other advanced synths, with incredible programming of sound libraries and a huge sysex sound library to tap into like the DX7 did. Nautilus falls flat next to the M1 in all those areas.

Gross, LOL. While the M1 could do a lot for what it was, it had (in my opinion) quite clunky, merky and muddy sounds. Some were quite usable though.

I am impressed. It is my intention to upgrade next year- got a pc to buy first and I am not exactly rich- and the high end workstations are what I am looking at saving for. This is a welcome addition, especially as it's a bit less saving. I can't swear that this is what I would go for, but it certainly appeals. Looking online I see the two bigger keybeds are better quality, but I imagine the price reflects that. Very much looking forward to more on this. Those Acoustic Pianos sound lush!

As my user name implies, I am the man to come to about Piano key baby! The keybed of this Korg is the NEW-OLD PANASONIC-TECHNICS-MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC designed keybeds used in the older(1980s) Technics keyboards but with the same semi-weighted fronts that were more common on the 1990s designed keyboards from Technics like the KN flagship arrangers. The SX-A7 arranger from the late 80s had the same keys as this unit, hence your SHORT travel, but with the front steel weights of the more expensive 1990s KN series and some of the 1980s flagship Church Organs. The modern comparison is the Korg M3 workstations(61-73),which were the FIRST in the mid 2000's to readopt the old PANASONIC-Technics keys from the 1980s-90s but with slight difference: BRIGHT WHITE COLOR naturals, and MATTE TEXTURED flats and sharps black keys. The synth you compared with the Triton has the cheaper style Panasonic portable keyboards series key-strip keys that are found ironically, on most of Korg's PA series late mid 2000s keyboards, the M50,R3,PA600,PA500,most of the K controllers with full sized keys and so on. The Korg M3,Kronos, and this Nautilus use the better revised Technics keys. No Aftertouch is strange considering most keyboards just use a resistive felt strip under the front of the black keys,middle of white keys like always... Hmm. Anyway, the TRITON action you love so much is manufactured by YAMAHA and is the YAMAHA DX7 series 61 note keybed complete with the metal switches,felt strip aftertouch strip, and slightly smaller width keys with slightly LONGER key length. The Panasonic keys are slightly wider and shorter. The new Korg recent release 88 note keybeds are entirely NEW design, not copied from older engineering specs used by the 61-73 note versions from 1980s keybeds. Ok, the Kronos, has an INTEL ATOM 1.8ghz mini itx x86 computer system powered by LINUX Gentoo and custom bits including custom KORG electronics and Korg OS. The Nautilus MAY BE ARM based computer now, and from the interface I saw, seems to still be LINUX, along with the Korg OS custom bits. The ARM based cpu is found on the Raspberry Pi mini micro computer boards and is by far cheaper and runs cooler and more efficient than INTEL and so I am only assuming but a safe bet, this is the direction they went with this keyboard. Only taking it apart will tell you for sure but there ya have it! Hope this helps and sheds some light WHY the difference in these Korgs across time and space lol!

The only thing I really find missing here is the ribbon, I really dislike not having one. I can do without aftertouch at the keybed level as I play sort of heavy and always end up triggering it when I don't want to. If needed, I am sure the controller can be assigned to pedal or a USB device such as a nanocontrol.

Moreover, the price difference between the Nautilus and the Kronos isn't all that big, considering what you're missing out on : for example, Sweetwater has already dropped the price of the Kronos 88 by $500, putting it at $3399 (down from $3899), versus $2699 for a Nautilus 88...

Woody you're one of the most entertaining reviewer I've ever seen: while you play a keyboard your face is better than any other star-based evaluation system :-D .. this Nautilus deserve more in dept research... at first sight it remember me a lot of my Krome (yes Krome has less synth engines) but these specific Korg choices (less Knobs, less display, less button, ....) feel like a deja-vù!. I own also a Yamaha Modx7 that make me feel like a baby in a toycenter every time a dig into the enormous options offered by that Yamaha synth-beast... A comparison in my opinion is not needed... too much distance between this 2 machines.. and I'm very pleased that Korg did not choose to develope an anti-Modx clone or similar... Korg and Yamaha are always on my hearth (and on my setup), each for their specific distinctive strength points. Keep going well with these reviews Woody. Many thanks! :)

That’s a cool synth! This could well be a serious competitor to the MODX. Like the design of it, reminds me of the M1 but then for the 2020’s. The pop out buttons are a nice touch. Interresting that it has a midi-through port, you don’t see that very often anymore. The Piano sounds are a nice and dynamic sounding. I wonder if the Nautilus supports USB controllers, appearantly the Kronos does.

You explain things very well😎😎 I am a very proud fan of Korg who has owned the Korg Trinity followed by every single Triton 61, 76 and 88 key and then the Triton Studio for years, and now I've owned the Kronos X 73 key for about 7 years but haven't updated the software which needs to be done. I don't know if you take requests buuuut if you or your buddy who owns that Kronos ever wanted to do a software update video it would most definitely be very very appreciated, and if not it's alright I'll still be here watching. Much respect to you and keep the videos coming🙏🙏🙏

Finally a serious mid-level synth to challenge the MODX, and feels like an amazing machine here! I do love my MODX, but I have to recognize that the Nautilus seems to be a step above it. Of course it's more expensive, but stills a great mid-level option, a massive one!
@nliviumihai
@nliviumihai 3 жыл бұрын
It's twice the price. It costs almost as much as a Montage/Kronos/Fantom. MODx is half the price and it's almost as good as the Montage. Sure, interesting tool, but, in my opinion, a little bit too expensive.

How good is the grand piano in your MODX? Can you compare the piano sound to another like the Yamaha P series. I own a P95.
@EduardoRohdeEras
@EduardoRohdeEras 3 жыл бұрын
@@nliviumihai well pointed, it's basically US$1000 more for each model (6, 7 and 8 octaves), it's a big difference. I hope the price will drop in the future ☺️

@@WildernessMusic_GentleSerene I have not played many Yamaha P series to give you a deep comparison, but I can guarantee the piano sounds in the MODX are awesome, including some classic yamaha pianos from other keyboard (you can have mechanical noises, string resonance, pedal noises, several velocity layers...). You can also load or create new sounds, I have the "Imperfect Samples Ebony Piano" loaded in my MODX and it works awesome! I got a lot of work to fit the samples there but it worth it.

So, now in the mid-range workstation segment we have Korg Nautilus, Yamaha MODX and Kurzweil PC4. It's gonna be interesting to see Roland's response, as the FA-06/07/08 is getting quite old and they are yet to make a trimmed down version of the new Fantom.

Excellent review. I still regret selling my Korg DS8 long ago, it had aftertouch and a beautiful jazz guitar/acoustic bass sound that was inspirational. Too bad the Nautilus lacks aftertouch, but I was impressed by the acoustic bass/ride cymbal/piano patch you demonstrated, so I might just consider the Nautilus after all (the 88 key version)... thanks for your comments regarding low keybed noise.

I'd like to be able to justify getting a new keyboard but even after 30 years, my Yamaha SY55 along with the MIDI out and Logic Pro X, does everything I need it to. Even so, great review on a very nice keyboard.

@@getitcaptured yeah exactly. It seems korg has put so many sounds loop. kinda like korg wavstate.. a lil bit. and it has many pattern rhythms which are good though But why f**king $2000 You can even buy a used kronos 61 with the best condition for $2000 Kronos has the best keybed.... By the way touch screen has lag..... somewhere i read it's of resistive kind of screen 😲

Love the piano samples. I'm guessing the Nautilus would receive and process channel D so aftertouch from a lower 88 weighted keyboard controller could change filters and such. If I were using this on gigs I would definitely be pushing in those knobs during transport.

@@WoodyPianoShack Just to let you know that on the back of this video I considered getting a Nautilus but found a brand new Kronos 61 for the same price. Just in the process of creating some similar performances from my MODX into Combis. It seems more time consuming to bring the insert effects across from program mode to combi mode, but it can be done. Really looking forward to getting to grips with Kronos though.😊

The smooth sound transition function is present on my Kronos2 as well, its a great feature to not have the existing program/combi sound cut off when changing. (Wish it was possible on the Triton as well).

Woody said he could keep "indefinitely". Do you really think after this synth is discontinued in 2 to 4 years (and then worthless to Korg) Korg will bother to pay equivalent of $150+ USD to have him ship back to Japan, when the thing only cost Korg $300 to manufacture in the first place?
