@aeasthouse3163 жыл бұрын
@@hubbards I just don’t get the designs of Seawind, so sorry will kindly disagree with you. Let’s start, what I love about them is quality of build - that’s top notch. That said, in my opinion, they need to work on their design. For me probably the most important space is the back cockpit - that’s where we spend most of our time, good or bad weather with good enclosure that can easily open and close. So cockpit and helm stations need protection. Here is the 1st gripe, the gap between the cockpit roof and saloon roof, two roof configuration if you will - why? More areas to close off, more areas for wind and rain to come in - just not a fan of the two roof setup - and it just looks old school. I assume they need this gap as the helm stations are very low. And that’s gripe 2: I love a slightly raised helm (not fly bridge) of say Leopard/Fountain/Lagoon), I feel I have great all round visibility and never seem the need for two helm stations. I can see everything from my perch (Lagoon 400). Where as the Seawind helm stations are very low, they don’t have that visibility -doubt you’ll see the port bow from starboard helm. Therefore you have to change helm stations to see the other side and therefore needs the gap in the roofs to see forward. Seems like a crazy approach to me. Also, with the helm stations located mid cockpit, it just blocks views from the cockpit - essential for those sundowners. And then you have to have to have two helm station enclosures, this reduces the surface area of the cockpit roof, so less protection. Would like to see how this boat will look with cockpit and dual helm station enclosures and their roofs. Just can’t see an elegant solution - feels like these are massive add ons rather than part of the design. Essentially now having 4 different roofs! Finally, the other problem of dual helm stations: you can’t have all lines running to two helm station. So one helm is secondary: takes up lots of space for the very occasional use as all lines just run to the primary helm. Sorry but that is very valuable realestate you occupy for occasional use. Just don’t get this design. Sure for some this is a great solution. For me unfortunately it just not practical. I feel they are great boat builders, have great boat engineers but the architecture is not there. Many happy sailing days to those who love and own them.

Nice! -- QUESTION -- Can you make a larger version of the 1370? The 1370 is easily the nicest looking 45' Catamaran for world cruising. However, it would be nice it if was slightly larger so we could put a proper sized washing machine and drying machine (both) into it (the tiny micro machine is simply too silly for full-time live aboards). Maybe a 1570 or 1670 would be perfect! The 1600 simply looks outdated by at least one generation whereas the 1370 simply stunning.

Lots of good improvements and practical ideas implemented. Shame that you didn't take the opportunity to modernize the salon a la the 1370 (and Balance Catamarans, etc.), improve the sightlines through the salon, etc., but then I suppose the idea with helming the 1600 is to look over and around the coachroof, not through it like the pilothouse catamarans. Agree that more length and beam will work better for more heavily loaded cruisers. If the wider beam is effected below the waterline much, it can't be as performant as the previous narrower design, if frontal area through the water increases, though added length helps too. So maybe similar performance at medium loads and better performance at heavier loads for the updated 1600? In general, these changes make sense for cruisers, which is presumably a larger market than racers.

*IMPRESSIVE on the initial look, it looks right bigger or LEGIT in volume and fights the inherent design flaw of a smaller cat to porpoise up and down. The previous-gen looks a little tight TBH.*

The helm positions with the 1600 Passagemaker are not as protected as those on the new 1370. Like the previous 1600 version, the bimini on the Passagemaker is too low. Only short people can stand at the helms below the bimini. When a tall person stands outside the bimini at the steering wheel, he can bump his head if he does not lower his head when entering. That is a potential safety issue. I am surprised that has not been corrected.
