Taylor is back with the most luxurious incarnation of their GT, or Grand Theater, body shape. The GT K21e features solid Hawaiian Koa top/back and sides, C-Class bracing, and beautiful Spring Vine inlay. Its punchy midrange and crystalline high end are a product of the body shape and scale length combination- this short scale guitar packs the punch of any full sized competitor. With tone for days and unbeatable aesthetics, Taylor has done it again. Visit our website for pre-order information.

Even though I am a neophyte with guitars I had to buy this beautiful sounding instrument. I needed a shorter scale guitar and while my playing cannot yet do this justice, this Taylor has given me a new benchmark.

I have a love /hate relationship going here. I love the new Koa guitars but hate it when they are so far out of my budget range. I am a Koa nut too. I have the T5z custom Koa, The GS Mini Koa and had the 224ce Koa..( but traded it for the T5z). At $4600.00, we are in divorce court territory. I assume this guitar can't make pancakes. So as much as I really enjoy your reviews...this one has put me in trouble...thanks!

yeah i knew it was going to be out of my price range , it's a Taylor after all ! but $4600 compared to $1600 for the non-Koa - no vines on the fretboard version isn't even in the same ballpark . beautiful guitar , sensational sound , great video !

I own one and love it! It's an ideal fingerstyle guitar. One of the reasons the K21e costs so much is because of the wood it's built from. Koa is becoming increasingly rare and expensive. Wouldn't be surprised to see Koa become unobtainable eventually. So you're paying a premium for the rarity of the wood, the same way you pay a premium for Brazilian Rosewood. Taylor has the same GT body size available in Urban Ash and rosewood/Sitka. Lower prices, same body size, but vastly different tone. Of the three GT models, the Koa version sounds best to my ear.
@scoobydoo936

Just to put things in perspective guys. A set of solid wood Koa sides and back, including a nicely figured soundboard in this quality and figure is at least 800 to a grand as raw material alone, count in the neck (AA quality at least) and fretboard, the curfling, binding, braces, frets and finish you end up between a grand and 1300 quit just for the raw materials and the tuners alone. Okay? Now, count in decently payed man-hours for such a meticulously handmade specimen, the tool wear ( router blades, saw blades etc.), power consumption and put a profit margin on top and the profit for the seller (store). There you go! Now, ask yourself how some low budget companies make 100$ guitars possible.

Do you think they would ever do a 12-Fret version of either the Rosewood or the the Koa? That would be the ultimate...
@1funkybasslady
@1funkybasslady 2 жыл бұрын
I doubt they would ever do a 12-fret in either rosewood or koa because they already make the 812ce 12-fret in both wood choices, and they are in the same price category. Those instruments are very close in size to the GT K21e. I have the 812ce Deluxe 12-fret, and I’ve played the koa version. I prefer the tone of the 812ce. The two 12-fret guitars are equal in comfort and playability to this new GT K21e. I almost sold my 812ce 12- fret, but I just couldn’t do it as it is one of the most wonderful guitars I have ever owned. That guitar will go to the grave with me. Conclusion: I have both! I just bought the GT K21e for its unique tone and its wonderful playability, comfort and beauty. Pricey? Yes, but the quality of construction and materials is second to none, and it is a great guitar, so to me it is worth the money. I have had some pretty fabulous guitars like Martin D-45 Custom Shop, D41 and D-42. They sounded fabulous, but they were very difficult for me to handle with their huge size. My greatest wish is to be able to find a guitar that sounds like those wonderful guitars - in a small body. Mission Impossible!

Does anyone else think Taylor has made a right hash of naming the GT guitars? The original GT is American Dream spec, same price point (even if different back & side woods) yet you have to search for it in different sections of any music store website (Anderton's, which is local to me, for example). They then group the 811 & K21 with the basic GT when they belong in the 800 and K series and the basic GT belongs with the AD17 & 27. The only major difference is the shape, the same as between any other two models in the same series. Also ... with these two new series that cost less than some of Taylor's 200 series, are they going to be scaling that back? Is there any advantage to paying for some of those laminate body guitars when you can get an all-solid GT or AD?

This is a very nice guitar, possibly too nice for me on a small all-around guitar. When looking at a GT 811E and comparing it to a Taylor 812ce 12 fret, the 811e was more balanced, the 812ce more bass. Fingerings was easier for me on the GT. So maybe I'll wait till Taylor puts out a torrified top GT. But these GT K21E are nice and will just get warmer as played. Thanks Chris.

@@kinlerj It’s not that different from a 312ce at $1,999 vs. a K22ce at $4,999. The regular GTe is $400 cheaper than a 312ce and the 800 Series GT is $400 cheaper than an 812ce so I guess technically they do have it overpriced by $100. However, as someone who has spent $4,000 on an instrument I can tell you another $100 wouldn’t be a deal breaker for me if it was something that I wanted. @@hunterplatt5316 Sure I have. It was/is a limited edition 400 series model with a cedar top and koa back and sides that was priced at $2,800 but it is a 400 Series model not a Koa Series model. My comment was referring to other Taylor models in the Koa Series. In other words the K22ce, K24ce, K26ce and oddly enough the K14ce which has a spruce top but is also part of the Koa Series as is this new GT.

@@charlesbolton8471 no there's a hard top 424ce-k as in koa top. Theyre rare and hard to come buy, but they're out there.

I'm not impressed at all... koa is beatiful, but ... maybe not so -good- as a tonewood. Ok, ok, personal tastes etc. , but spruce have better basses, better high, more dynamic...if someone like some "smooth" sound (and I can understand it) I think mahogany and cedar are better . Or same classic guitars as J45 or Martin d18 can sound smooth without compressing the sound so much.

Sounds boxy and thin to me. No way in hell I'd pay $4700 for that.

Thanks genuinely for the video but you play the most boring music I couldn't even imagine.that slow folky stuff is so horrendously pious,much worse even than the usual crappy Irish ghostly durges the media toss out in adverts snore. ,I wish you would revisit some old van halen, metallica accoustic interludes ,satch ,or even classical.something more colourful instead of old green and brown diamond sock music that is just stomach churning.For your own sake that I write this, I will always just switch off or skip through it.gonna leave it there for you and hope you branch out a bit into the real world, maybe revisit your favourite pop song harmonic progressions from the 60s,70s,80sand 90s but my blood is curdled and I literally feel like I have been poisoned . I didn't write this to get you back but I honestly feel like I truly owe you a bad one.

I wish Quinton would just play like this, instead of all the talking, and so little playing.

Admit it ('cause it is plain to see): you've STRUGGLED while playing these (relatively simple) tunes - that's how inappropriate the dimensions of this guitar are. Yes, the hardware is top-notch, cosmetically it is classy, it even sounds quite decent...but, except for children or midgets, this instrument is a waste of money. But then again, there are lots of millionaires out there who just want the most luxurious toys for their heirs.
