Just like to share that I bought for my Sony A1's the 1TB Angelbird CF Express A (for around 600 euros) more than a year ago. At that time I think it was a good choice. But OWC seems the next gen, thanks for this video!

Hi Art, I am considering to buy new CF Express type A cards (1 TB size) for my Sony A1 cameras. I currently have Angelbird 1TB CF express cards. Not bad but for downloading not as fast as the newer ones. I shoot wildlife, thousands of shots in short sessions (sometimes more), some video and the backup time after a tiring session is sometimes too long for me (at least 2 cameras). The OWC card you are excited about is a "200" class. You talk about "future compatible" but on the website of OWC it is not considered as compatible for cameras like Nikon Z8, Z9, R5 II, R1 in highest resolution. The Sony A1 can do 8k30. It might be good for that but imagine a future A1 II has at least 8K60 it could not be compatible? While for example WISE offers also 1TB type A cards mark II with "400" rate. In my opinion that is more future compatible? But I dont know the brand Wise and I need to fully trust the memory card on my trips. I use 2 Sony A1's. What do you think about the Wise card I mentioned or do you have other brand to recommend for me? Wise only mentions full HD/4k on their website, which is confusing to me because even my Angelbird 1tb type A cards (slower) do well for 8k30. Wise offers 3 years guarantee, maybe a better choice than OWC for me?

Hi, So, a few thoughts. Yes, they are VPG 200, one of those; we found out later that we don't need that much speed. Gen 3 cards are mostly, if not all, VPG 400, which is why they are so expensive. I hear you about the possible 8K60, but you also have to realize that, though that is a lot of data, it is still compressed file format mp4, mov. Sony has no ability or the licensing to shoot RAW, and Nikon owns RED. I don't see that changing any time soon. It is correct that these cards are not compatible with the other cameras because they go through an adapter. Those adapters are for file transfer via card reader, not for direct access from the camera for storage. All of the other ones that you mentioned use Type B cards. That is why I have tested this, too. I have not used Wise, so I cannot comment on it. What I can tell you is something that I also said in the video, OWC did leave room for an Atlas Ultra type card that will probably be VPG 400, it is just at this point in time no Sony alpha needs this. And chances are, like I said, 8K60 might be fine going with a VPG200 card because it is not RAW. All I can tell you is that I have tested this VPG 200 card with 8K30 and it works just fine. If you do get the Wise card, let me know how it goes :)

I was about to upgrade my Slot 1 cards with 256GB OWC Ultra SD (was using Sony M) but after looking at the prices I saw CFexpress prices dropping lower then I saw these! I don't need the size but the download speed is what I am really excited about plus I feel safe if I upgrade to the 60mp Sony cameras later down the road... These cards paired with the OWC Ultra SD cards will be the best dual card set up for sure if you have one slot CFE & one SD... I also like the idea of user firmware upgrades. When I bought my A7IV bodies 4 of my Sandisk and 3 of my Sony G cards would not work! I had to mail them in and get replacements. It took WEEKS! Hopefully FW upgrades will be swift if there's ever a problem...

I think if you use 1 cfexpress and 1 sd card in your sony camera's dual card slots the speed will reduce to the sd card speed on your cfexpress card
@ChongLisDriveThru
@ChongLisDriveThru Ай бұрын
@@leezheng8161They are independent. The speed of the CFExpress will write at it's max and the SD card will write at it's max. You will just be waiting for the buffer if you write to both cards at once because of the SD card write speed.

Hi, thanks for this video. I have multiple questions: 1. does this mean that they are compatible with Sony A1 and A9iii?. 2. Will this memory most likely be compatible with the upcoming Sony A1 II? 3. What would be the maximum video size they should support, would they be able to go to 8k 60fps? Thank you.

1. Yes 2. We don't know the spec of that camera yet but the probability is high. 3. 8K24 no issue. 8K60 is not really around in the alpha yet, so we shall have to see.

Any updates on the potential issues with these cards? Debating to buy one because they are on sale now.

Art, do you know if the Innergize software will test other brands card health in the type B format? (Prograde or Delkin).
@ArtIsRight

It will only work on OWC card, this is one of those where everything has to play together, the card/controller itself has to support this feature, the card reader needs a chip that support this feature for the software to work.

Hey Art, what do you think about the new Wise Advanced type A cards? It's rated for 400 VPG, and only slightly more expensive than the OWC.

I saw that, I am usually skeptical of new brands. The nice thing about OWC is they stand by their product.

I also saw the WISE cards and asked the same question. I cannot find reviews about it. I do not fully trust it to use it professionally yet but they do offer VPG 400 indeed.

@@jorisdijkema So there’s also ones from Mediastorm x Chipfancier, 1TB, 1750mb/s, also VPG 400 certified. For 1750 rmb (~$252 USD). It’s been out for a bit and I haven’t seen anything negative news for this card. Mediastorm is a Chinese content creator but also a commercial company and Tim (the owner) says they have been using these for commercial work. I’m personally a fan and will probably get this one once I have immediate need for CFA cards.
