Windows Server 2012
Prerequisites
Introduction to Windows Server 2012
Purpose of Class
This class teaches students the basic concepts in building out Active Directory Infrastructure for Windows Server 2012.
Class Notes
DC's or Domain Controllers are the server that control the Active Directory Service
Domains are made up of Domain Controllers and Member PC's and Servers.
There can be multiple Domain Controllers in a Domain for fault Tolerance and Load Balancing.
DC's keep data synchronized through replication.
The schedule for replication is called the "replication strategy".
DC's can be grouped into Sites. Sites are comprised of Domain Controllers located at the same geographic location.
Sites are used to reduce bandwidth consumption used due to Replication.
DC's are normally set to be Read/ Write. For security purposes you can make DC's Read only.
Read Only DC's are used at Remote Offices to lessen the danger of Hacking.
Sites are connected through Site Links
Sites can Replicate Through Site Link Bridges. Site Link Bridges are kind of like routers for replication.
Global Catalog Servers store searchable Indexes of the Active Directory database. There should be at least one Global catalog server at each site.
It is best to use Microsoft's built in DNS Server on a Windows Server 2012 network. You can use a Unix DNS Server, but...
WINS (Windows Internet Naming Service) was Microsoft's attempt to compete with DNS. You will rarely ever see it, but if you have very old legacy systems you may need to create a WINS server.
Using Microsoft's DHCP Server is usually the best bet on a Windows Domain.
Using Windows DNS and DHCP allow for multiple servers for fault tolerance and increased security.

I applied for the Junior SA position in a very sucessful company. Night before my interview i was so nervous i couldn't calm myself down, so i started googling found your channel and binge watched like 4-5 videos trough the night. Some of the things you went trough i already knew and was familiar with them, but some other things really gave me something to think about. I brainstormed with myself trough the morning, got to the interview and completely nailed it. I am happy to say i got the job and couldn't be happier. Thank you so much for your knowledge and the way you get it trough in a relatively simple way. Much love from Croatia. +1 SUB

Thanks for teaching the class! I totally agreed. I'm all for Unix, but you're right, a lot of my interviews are asking for Window Admin and if I know Active Directory or not. Your class will totally help me on my future interviews. I actually understand all the video, much better then me trying to read and understand from the book and falling asleep.

Great, spot on ending to this instructional video. People that make comments about 'Linux this, Samba that, eDirectory blah blah blah' either live on a technological island, or have never had a real IT job. Most large/mid-size/small companies are running Windows AD as their primary Directory Service. Your advice to students to focus on Microsoft AD and supplement with learning SAMBA, or eDirectory is very sound real world advice. I have worked in private and public sector and Microsoft AD was the primary Directory Service in all cases.

Eli, you have a talent for language that most people just don't have. The reason I know that is because I have it too. Most people that I ask the kinds of questions of that you just answered, respond by stumbling, mumbling, and fumbling. Some of them just get the "deer in the headlights" look on their faces, and they can't talk. For most people the right words just don't show up in their heads to explain what they know. We are not among them.
@TheTedPalmer

Ted Palmer I want to add that some people respond in a pseudo smart way with something like "I was born knowing that. Wasn't everyone?" Others respond angrily when confronted with the prospect of looking stupid because they can not articulate what they know.
