⚠️: There's a mistake in the slides around 9:20 - the "hand" and "foot" for the Shao Yang are flipped. This was probably a mistake in copy/pasting the table, but it should be correct in the downloadable handout: tcmstudy.net/handouts/A01_Intro.pdf Sorry about that!

What an interesting and informative lecture. I think the origin story is particularly fascinating, were the channels discovered first or the points? I think it's also interesting that other cultures seem to have used acupuncture. The frozen ice man of the Alps had tattoos in patterns that resemble acupuncture points. Some folk traditions cauterized points on the body, especially the ears, to treat various illnesses. Auricular acupuncture was used by the ancient Egyptians apparently. Were those distinct cultures independently discovering the channels or was there wide spread knowledge at the time. Hard to say.

Amazing video. They say if you can teach something to a five year old; you have a pretty good grasp of it. I felt majorly enlightened on this; and I'm not even a student! I actually stumbled on to this when searching out more specific information to help me with James MacRitchie's, "The Eight Extraordinary Meridians" Internal Qigong manuscript. He listed 16 points in the system; but my manuscript did not have the charts that he was referring to. I turned to his stuff after practicing telekinesis/psychokinesis (you might just call them chi experiments). Trebor Seven and many other practitioners speak of having a foundation of strong energy, along with faith, and mental and bodily calm. Qigong seemed to be the way to go to get that kind of energy; so I started looking into it; and then practicing it. So, I was incredibly glad and relieved to come across your super easy to understand primer video on accupuncture pathways. Thanks so much, Dave

Nicholas: Wow--you are so informative in a practical, easy, and casual way. That's GREAT teaching!!! "One who makes a complex subject simple (or at least more simple) is a great benefit to students. It's like instead of lecturing "down" to students, you put yourself in the student seat and say, "how can I remember this better/easier?"....YES!!!!!! I've had so many "smart" teachers who know their subjects but don't form a valuable bridge to the minds of their students to help them learn the material best. YOU, my friend DO. I have a question for you: I'm in CA TCM school (online because of COVID now), only first semester, but am not really feeling the TCM path in me...I'm more resonating with the Classical Five Element (Worsley path) of using the channels/points/ and their spirit uses to heal along with the constitution....do you have any insight into Classical 5E approach from personal training/experience or colleagues that you can share? Does Classical 5E work well with patients too, just from a different "lens" or orientation to healing? Thanks so much! Jenn

Hi Nicholas, I love your videos they are so helpful! I was recently referred to them by my professor. Thanks for your help!

I'm hoping to make one soon (or.. eventually). In the meantime, if you look at the Lung Channel video, as it goes through the points, it mentions the functions of each point category and gives some examples. So scroll through to LU-1, LU-3, LU-6 through 11. If you want, I have some powerpoint slides on the categories, but they're not on the website. Email me at nicholas@tcmstudy.net

Thank you very much for the concise and helpful information. It really does help to understand with pictures and explanations how easily we can recall those channels and how they run. I’m a first year student in my first week of uni and have been searching to understand more what actual channels are. Are they like invisible pathways where Qi and blood flow between Jing Luo making up the network in the body or are they the same pathways that follow central and peripheral neurovascular systems? Or some of the channels just happen to overlap with central and peripheral neurovascular systems? I understand that blood vessels were only discovered in western medicine around 16th century so it may not be exactly the same pathway as blood vessels? Are channels physical pathways where Qi and blood flow? I’m trying to let go of my western medicine knowledge as I’m starting to learn that’s the only way to fully embrace and understand acupuncture and Chinese medicine but I couldn’t get a clear answer on the channels.
