Eastern or Latin, we are one Catholic Church, brothers in Christ. It is just so wonderful to know how diverse the Catholic Church is, none above the other but of same importance and reverence.

Catholic church is not really diverse since majority is Latin.
@d.j.b.05159 күн бұрын
@@josephjacob3274 The very word "Catholic" means "Universal". There are millions of Catholics living in the Middle East, India, and Africa, as well as in South America and Mexico. These people are native to those countries, yet are Catholic. The Catholic Church is absolutely the most diverse Church in the world, as it has 23 Eastern liturgical rites in addition to the predominant Latin rite, but even the smallest liturgical rites are just as equal to the Latins in terms of dignity, diversity, and faith.

This is so fascinating. I love this. Returning to Christ after many decades away has brought me to both the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches and I've been studying the works from the greats of both and praying about where I belong. Learning about the Byzantine Catholics is something I had never really looked into much before. I think I'll go visit my local one. Thanks so much for making this video.

Wow!!! This was one of the best videos on eastern Catholicism I’ve ever watched! Stumbled across it in a Facebook group. My children and I were blessed to meet Fr. Michael a few weeks ago when he visited our parish St. Isidore’s in Manhattan, KS to do the Divine Liturgy! It was my second time attending a Divine Liturgy and I love it so much. My husband is currently deployed but when he returns I told him that we have to go visit St. Luke’s! 🙏🏻 We both have felt led toward Byzantine Catholicism in recent times. Loved Fr. Michael’s explanation about iconography….throughout the video he kept having me be like “whoa!!” So profound! Thanks for doing this! Shared with my family.

It's interesting that you talked about the Seventh Ecumenical Council - my first time ever going to a Divine Liturgy at St. Luke just so happened to fall on the feast day of the Seventh Ecumenical Council! So the topic of iconoclasm/iconophilia was the topic of the homily that day. Really interesting stuff that I didn't know about at first, and definitely something I now have in my back pocket whenever someone gives me grief for having icons and statues in my home.

My girlfriend is from slovakia, and they attend both the greek and roman rite. What was interesting, is that even in the Roman rite they stand in parts of the consecration. Their orignal liturgy was the greek and slovanic liturgy.

A legitimate question, I just need to be informed. I love the Blessed Virgin Mary as my Mother and Queen, so for me the four Marian dogmas are non negotiable. I know that in the East they don’t believe in the Immaculate Conception, which is a blasphemy for me as Catholic. But what about the Eastern Catholicism? I imagine that since they are in union with the Chair of Peter, they believe in the same dogmas? I have to research.. I’d appreciate any feedback, and thank you 😊. Love in Christ to all.
@FrJohnBrownSJ6 ай бұрын
Yes, Eastern Catholics do not reject any Catholic dogmas.
@BrandonDanilition5 ай бұрын
Of course Eastern Catholicism believes in the Immaculate Conception, they’re in communion with Rome after all and are fully part of the Catholic Church. There are some people who say Eastern Catholics don’t have to believe the Immaculate Conception, but this is just wrong and gravely misinformed. The simple thing is that the term itself, Immaculate Conception, is not necessarily or as widely found in Eastern Catholic theology. It’s still there, just different terminology
@emanuelmontanez3492Ай бұрын
Replying a year after your comment lol. But yes the Eastern Catholic Churches believe in all dogmatic of the Catholic Church it is required of us to be in union with Rome. We just often have different ways of explaining it but ultimately it's the same beliefs.

I find Gavin Ortlund’s talks on iconology very thoroughly convincing. Does eastern Catholicism have any particularities that distinguish it from Eastern Orthodoxy in this regard?

Have you seen Trent Horn’s response to Ortlund, by chance? He addresses him specifically in a talk about icons.
@clarissa7428 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think EC differs at all from EO on this; I’m not sure how they could, since it was an issue addressed before they split. If you accept that ecumenical councils are guided by the Holy Spirit (like both EO and Catholics do) then you can’t get around accepting icons.

Yes. Eastern Catholicism accepts and maintains all of the same views and doctrines as Roman Catholicism. Eastern Catholicism presents itself as Eastern only in appearance. It’s essentially Roman Catholics larping as Orthodox.
