our biochem class taught us enzymes themselves never speed up a reaction but instead increase rate of reaction by LOWERING activation energy (Ea).... is that wrong based of this video? =

Enzymes do indeed speed up a reaction, and it does this by lowering activation energy, via a mechanism such as those described in this video. What the enzyme does not do is change the total free energy difference, so that may be what you were thinking of.

correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we want an enzyme -- not an ion -- that uses hydrostatic strategy for catalyzing a reaction? dna polymerase doesn't use h.static interactions to speed up anything. the ion, Mg2+, is the thing enabling the enzyme dna polymerase to work. seems like we were looking for enzyme variablename that brought Mg2+ ions to speed up the rxn of pairing nucleotides.
