If you plug x = 1 or x = -1 into the equation x² + y² = 1, then in both cases y = 0 is the only value for y which satisfies the equation (since it simplifies to y² = 0). So here "one solution" is meant with a certain value for x already in mind, looking only for the corresponding y value(s).

Great video! Quick question. Can functions map to a higher dimensional output than the input is in? For instance is f(x) = {x^2, x^3} a function? It is one to one, but the codomain is of higher dimension than the domain.
