You are a great teacher. You explain, in detail, many items that others fail to address. Nice work, hope you keep going. BaDaDaDa!

Your are an awesome teacher Ben. You answered all my questions very good. Thank you so much for the information. I will continue with my claw-hammer style and start working also on my three finger Scruggs style before attempting the melodic. It looks like what I am looking for. I will probably join your gold pick group after I get some of this under my belt.

Hello Ben. I have been away from the banjo for awhile but am coming home to start playing again. One thing I have always wanted to do is play melodic more and learn a lot of fiddle tunes. I just love fiddle tunes! So, am looking forward to joining your website and starting anew. Donald.

Such as Bill Keith? He invented this style of banjo playing.

Great video, as always. :) "This is one that you all will need to know anyway at your local jams." Yeah, I wish. People here only know what a banjo looks like and don't even know what a mandolin is or recognize it when they see one.

it still stops at the fifth fret but it runs underneath to a tuner on the top, he's got a video on it.

I'm puzzled! What kind of banjo is that? All five strings including the top one are all equal length? How is it tuned?

Katana Senpai Its a tunneled 5th string; which at the 5th fret, where the normal 5th string is attached to the peg. There is a nut, which holds the string at the 5th fret. So the tuning is the same as any other 5 string banjo. Yet, after the nut, instead of going straight to peg, it actually runs through the neck under the fret board, in a "tunnel". The tunnel ends up at the end, and then is attached to the peg there.

Mike D Thank you for the clarification. Is there any benefit of using this design compared to what we view as a more conventional design with a 5th peg mounted at the side of the neck?
@BanjoBen

VinniePaah After owning both, I recommend going with the conventional design of the 5th peg. There are some great tunneled 5th string banjos out there, but I go for my Huber now.

@BreakingTennessee Hey Sarah! I'm so glad you got a banjo! Cool! Yep, my private lessons via Skype have been going REALLY well. I've had a couple of dozen students over the last month, and 100% satisfaction guaranteed. Contact me through my website and we'll set up a time. Thanks!
