Thanks you so much for your teaching. This is the first time I installed OpenCPN. As you say if this is for a begginer that is HOW you teach. People always have to say bad about something as I read the last comment 1 year ago by Joe and others. This is free teaching guys. Why negative comments for someone that invest time and patience to teach? Should be a shame of your thoughts!

Just want to say thanks David. I've watched most of your video's and have come to appreciate both there content and the time and effort you have gone to in order to share what you know with us. Yes you have a unique way of delivering this at times and that seems to be a challenge for some of us but I don't see any of those people making the negative remarks sharing what they know as you are. Thanks again and good on you mate! Regards Dave M from Melbourne, Australia.

Good first tutorial. I think that was enough to get people started to start fooling around with a few charts.

I thank you for this introduction to openCPN. I am pleased they also made a Mac version of this software. I'm in the middle of USPS course on Piloting and hope to see more of your videos when I get to that stage! THANK YOU again for taking the time to introduce me to openCPN.

Thank you for creating this tutorial. Lots of people are complaining about the lack of structure, but you are one of the few OpenCPN tutorials even on KZbin. Could it have been a little more clear? Sure. But I still found a lot of value in it.

One more question, I have the GPS/Glonass dongle, can I use that with my windows laptop or even my pc? And if so, and you happen to know how that's done, or better yet, to save you the trouble, if you know of a tutorial on how to set that up, like additional needed software or maybe it just works without anything more? thanks again

Just had a chance to see the reviews of this early video! I see a lot of folks who were unhappy about the presentation and i have to agree it was not choreographed, and it could indeed be more productive if rehearsed, so i apologize to them. I hope to make a more focused presentation as soon as we can. This excellent navigation program deserves it. We have a couple projects in front of us, then we will come back to this. For now, I have to fall back to Mark Twain's defense, "If i had more time i would have written less."

It seems they have taken the opposite of your suggestion. The maps are still not listed with their chart numbers in the downloader in OpenCPN5.0, and the chart numbers seem to have been cropped off of raster files for the two maps I downloaded ("San Juan Channel" and "Strait of Georgia and Strait of Juan de Fuca").

Hi, I got the free program as you are using, and two things..1) the wrench and two other options were all there were along the top to choose from, and not near the amount yours shows. Also, I followed all your directions to a Tee and all seemed to go well until I went to view the downloaded charts, and all I have is the original blank map with no indication anything was added at all, but they were added.
