Just a heads up, for anyone watching this on a Mac, if you go to System Preferences > Accessibility > Audio (the path may be slightly different on earlier versions; I'm on 10.9), you can make stereo audio play as mono. This should make listening to this video much less painful if you have headphones. I'm sure there's a similar solution for Windows; if anyone knows one, feel free to reply to keep it next to this comment.

Hard "can't" are a tricky topic. But I guess the phrasing is okay for the introduction level. The PHP driver example just recalled a funny memory. I did that once, it was just horrifically slow that people had to wait in front of the machine. So I guess "can't" is okay if you add the productive environment modifier. Because if you access any sort of hardware via PHP you have to go through some sort of generalized access which is going to be by nature slower because it needs all the additional safety features and guides. And the most basic way to make sure everything runs smoothly is: "When in doubt, wait." And for all the more mature languages: They have dang good reasons to do stuff the way they do it. If you don't understand You don't have enough general knowledge. Because some things are mutually exclusive. Like strong typing and short code. There are good reasons for both but if you have strong typing in theory you will always carry some of the overhead even if you don't use it. Programming languages ned to be seen as tools. A light hammer is a bad hammer. The whole point of the thing is having a heavy head. There is no point in having a heavy screwdriver.
@Slarti9 жыл бұрын
As a developer of some 23 years of experience I think you have made some excellent points. Knowing what you want to do and using pseudocode are extremely important. It's what I had to do for around 5 years. I am at the stage now where I tend to think in classes, abstractions and interfaces so I can generally think through what I want to do without needing to use pseudocode. However I still document my ideas so that I have a proof that the ideas all work together. Basically programming comes down to building machines in an abstract space and the more one can train oneself in design by reading other people's code and reading up on different patterns of programming - the less effort it will be and the more joy it will give you. Yes, programming is a joyful experience when you are absorbed in it.

The first class I did on programming was pretty easy, and I'm not being arrogant. It just came easily. But what does frustrates me, its the number of possibilities, and the feelin that once you made a choice you can't change the tracks. Basically, Im 2 years struggling with this shit. Did a little of C/C++, Java, Python, I just couldn settle. I didnt write almost nothing useful, just bullshit( maybe thats the problem). I just know that Web Development seems easier, so my bet is on web dev. I guess my real issue is not caring about money, I just want to choose the more intellectualy challenging stuff, but...because of that everything seems more complicated than it should be.
@seienchin32999 жыл бұрын
***** Webprogramming is not easier by default (Also it is in most cases) but you can get some results pretty fast thanks to HTML which makes an interface really easy. Its a joy to see you site even before the actual coding works.

Coming from a strong IT and IT Training Background I already knew almost all of this content ...BUT... this was just excellent to watch. Fantastic introduction and the review is Key (as is repetition). Very well done. I'll be watching more.
