Tiagra are hands down the best trolling reels I’ve owned.

I had the 50w LRS. It helped me catch a 2 big yellowfin tuna 262lbs and 220lb.

Hello. For the 50A, can you advise if this reel is taller than the 30WLRSA? How does the 50A handle braid lay / lap compared to the 30WLRSA? What is the better reel for standup fishing for tuna - 50A or 30WLRSA and why? Cameron

50A is taller than the 30W. "Braid lay/lap" is unclear. They handle braid fine. The (ever so slightly) wider spool of the 30W will help maintain the same diameter at which the line is wrapped around the spool. making the drag and inches per crank a little more consistent. 30W might be the better standup choice if just for the fact that it's almost 2lbs lighter. Also a couple inches faster on the high gear.

@@whenfishingwithjeremyrodda Great response thank you. In your opinion would you use mono or braid on the 30W for stand up fishing for tuna (not barrel tuna)? How to mitigate potential roll of reel when winding heavy loads?

@@Camh1968 I would use braid, with however much mono on top the specific style requires. You could do 30' or less of mono on top in almost any situation, however it could be argued that 100' of mono or more would be better in situations like trolling. Live baiting you probably want a shorter leader so the bait doesn't have so much big line to drag around. Personal taste/your own combo of good and bad habits will dictate how much trouble one line causes you over the other. Reel roll won't be nearly as much of an issue as you think. I used to worry about it but after handling 30 and 30W reels for a while, the "narrow" version is just slightly more ergonomic when you don't need the line capacity, rather than a design to directly reduce reel roll.

Hi @carpenterandelectricianmrinal. It depends on the which reel from the Shimano Tiagra you are looking at. Here's the link for you to browse through: www.meltontackle.com/shimano-tiagra-lever-drag-two-speed-reels.html
