Same for me. I bought a couple of booster packs just to appreciate the artwork. I only saw it played once in person but I loved how it felt like a board game. I then bought the precon deck this week. I’ve played it once and all I can think about is this game! The game evolves so much as you play and I was just at the edge of my seat as I got obliterated by my opponent. Most importantly, though, I had fun.

Rules q: how long do effects that say "this turn" last? At 19:52, Wildfire resolves during the end of turn phase, dealing 3 damage to the House Arn Bannermen that have been buffed by Overpower. Overpower says "give ally +2 power this turn". Does this last until the beginning of the next turn? Or should it have worn off by the end of turn phase?

As someone who doesn't play TCG, I have to admit that Sorcery looks much more interesting to me than MtG. I used to play MtG Arena a bit and I think Sorcery cards just look more mature. Maybe it's strange, but this card game reminds me of the good old Heroes of Might and Magic 3.
@subzero3082 ай бұрын
Magic card used to have amazing "mature" art on them... And then they started with all these dumb collector packs and lost the cool authentic look of what MTG cards used to look like. I don't like boarderless cards at all makes MTG cards look like YuGiOh or something.. Retro frame cards r def the way to go with MtG cards. Sadly they r the most expensive cause they r the classic cards everyone wants.

Yes, you can mix and match avatars and elements! While some avatars benefit from specific elements more than others, the cards you can play are restricted by Sites you have in your deck. @Barrager69 Жыл бұрын
The similarities with Magic begins and ends at being a fantasy trading card game. In both Sorcery and Magic you must utilize your resources well to play cards at the right opportunities to gain an edge over your opponent just like in every TCG. HOWEVER, Sorcery's grid-based board state adds a whole other depth of strategy other popular card games don't utilize, which is positioning. So you have to take into account not just what/when you play but also where you play your cards on the board-state for advantages. IMO its way better of a game than Magic except in one area, Magic still has the edge in the simplicity of it's core design/game phases/turns. That's to be expected seeing as MTG is the first game of its genre/kind. With that said, Magic plays far more ruggedly due to its resources being dependent on the luck of the draw. Sorcey (and most/all modern TCGs) do not have this problem.
@hahahafunniness Жыл бұрын
Not even close. MTG is owned and managed by WotC, a terrible company that is setting out to destroy itself.

Magic does have commander, I love to play with friends and nothing beats all of us duking it out and playing politics. This seems fun but I'm hoping there will be a multiplayer format that's exciting. It's the same reason I fell off Flesh and Blood, ultimate pit fight felt like an afterthought
@Barrager69 Жыл бұрын
@@MandoEmmm I enjoy playing commander also with friends. I think Sorcery can tap into that format eventually if not sooner than expected. I hope multiplayer comes in also as its a natural setting for card play, and card games thrive on it. Of course, rules and balance will need to be established. Certain cards might need to be banned/restricted and/or some in game mechanics may need adjusting, for example: such as expanding the grid to a 5x5 or bigger? Who knows what may be needed ultimately but I really think with new cards/sets in the future and someone/some team spending time to build the multiplayer format to where it's possible then I think it will happen sooner or later.

Develops very slowly and stacking cards on each other is clunky. Too much like a board game and not for me. You can tell the people that are so crazy excited about this on Facebook are only to keep their investment afloat. Especially Mike Servati who is just cartoonishly pushing this.
@Kuubudaraa Жыл бұрын

@LastEsper Жыл бұрын
I agree. I came in excited but felt disappointed watching this demo. It's cluttered, messy, and lacking in strategy/depth. Given the many decades in advancement in TCG and board games, I would have expected way more innovation. Seemed like the players were just drawing and playing whatever cards they drew without much thought, and positioning of the cards did not significantly impact the decision making of the players. Also, watching the players fumble along trying to handle 4 cards/tokens on a single tile was not appealing. Clarity in this game is awful. A well designed game should allow each player to make smart and clear decisions as quickly as possible based on the board state, and this game doesn't support that at all. What if two players play a bunch of the same cards? What happens when with 6-8 or even more tokens/cards on a single tile? I'm not expecting Chess/Go, but I spend more time making decisions playing a draft game in Magic than what I saw here. Sorcery at a high level has a good idea, but the core of the game feels poorly designed.
@MetamancersTCG Жыл бұрын
A TCG must have a "pile of events". The concept of a "pile of events" or a stack in trading card games is commonly attributed to mathematics professor Richard Garfield, who is also the creator of the immensely popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering. Magic: The Gathering, released in 1993, introduced the idea of a stack or pile of events as a fundamental part of its gameplay mechanics. Since then, many other trading card games have adopted and adapted this concept in their own game systems. Otherwise a game will fall in the abyss of tabletops. It is very difficult to innovate in this field, at least Sorcery has tried.
