I should have also said that these are very good videos and very helpful, I just got a D40 and watched all of them.

Thank you, and I had hoped so. I also see that LV is very useful. I use it a lot in studio work, actually. I do enjoy poking fun at things.

Image review of the photo immediately is very important, very useful, helps you take better pictures, and is not for the purpose of instantly reminiscing, it is to check and see if you made a mistake, had an issue, or want to change something in the photo you just took. You hopefully can correct and reshoot, however, waiting until you are back at home may result in a totally missed opportunity to capture a tremendously good photo. This is an important asset unique to digital cameras that should be celebrated, not made fun of.

Instant review is far more likely to cause a photographer to miss a photo by distracting them from the scene and forcing them to look at a screen.

I love your Nikon D40 video's they've been a lifesaver. Can you tell me how you keep the LCD screen lit, mine goes off in seconds?
@DavidHancock6 жыл бұрын
Thank you! There's a setting in the menus (I forget where as I don't have the D40 any more) that allows you to set how long the screen stays on.

Just 6hought of spmething: the option to check firmware will not show up, if you do not have a firmware .bin file on your SD card also the firmware option will only appear under full menu.

I don't think so, but I'd definitely remove the SD card before resetting the camera just to be safe.

How to switch between menu items and the viewfinder on this camera please
@DavidHancock9 ай бұрын
This has an optional viewfinder, not a digital screen, so there's no way to view the menu in the viewfinder.

Hi David, great videos! I was able to follow all the steps up to image review and the items below it on the same screen. Looks like my D40 only let me see up to 06 No Memory Card under the Custom Setting Menu. Have you heard of discrepancies in menus across the D40s? Thanks!
@DavidHancock10 жыл бұрын
Connie Tsang There are a couple of possibilities. Which firmware version do you have ? I forget how to check that off the top of my head, but there are directions on the Nikon website here: bit.ly/1yw0yS6 So check that. Also, there's a function in one of the menus that allows menu display customization. Maybe at some point (perhaps by a previous owner) some of the menu items were turned off. One of these videos shows how to do that, but I forget which one.
@2dreamis2be10 жыл бұрын
David Hancock , you were right - myCSM/Setup menu was set at Simple. I just switched it to full and now I can see the same menu as you did in this video. Thanks!

The chap goes on and on about the obvious in re: seconds for timer, but doesn't show us what the steps are. They should be simple but they are not working for me, which is why I'm here. No luck.
@DavidHancock3 жыл бұрын
The steps are pretty self-explanatory. Select the one that you want. The functions are less clear and, though it's been many years since I made this video, I believe it focuses more on what the functions do.

@@DavidHancock Hi. Well, I was pressing the buttons as the manual describes, without getting the flashing (and the photograph). I think it actually wants one extra button push. That plus the fact that my battery actually needed charging!
