Introduction to the Pentax K70 camera

And yes, not all of us can see like when we were 20 years old. I have a photographer friend who is actually legally blind! But he does OK by using his computer to magnify things during post processing, and he gets by pretty impressive results, by knowing his camera settings and capabilities very well. Thanks for the introductory review. I'm very pleased you like it because I have one arriving in a few days. I just purchased the new 'HD Pentax-DA 55-300mm F4.5-6.3 ED PLM WR RE' lens for my Pentax K-50. Just after ordering I found out that it doesn't work with the K-50, so I could either return the lens or go the whole hog and upgrade to the K-70. I took a deep breath and chose the latter. I've had my eye on both the new lens and the K-70 for a while. I hadn't planned on buying so soon but saw the lens at a good price. Thanks again for the review. let us know how you get on with it.

One thing nobody mentions is removed option for rechargeable AA batteries - over 1000 pictures on one set of 4. It's a great feature of K-30... With K-S2 or K-70 I would have to buy 3 spear batteries...

3:30 you DO NOT HAVE TO use manual aperture on Pentax A lenses (A like Auto) which are 30 years old now. Old Pentax M and adapted M42 lenses will work only in full manual mode (like, probably, this TAMRON from 1970s).

2:25 RAW format not compatible??? But you are showing a DNG file straight from the Pentax camera opened in Adobe Lightroom... Pentax uses DNG (Digital NeGative) format for years now and they were pioneers in that field. Maybe using a camera for few weeks will help with these basic features ;-)

thanks for the intro - I am a big pentax fan and am looking at getting the k70. I have the 18-135mm. It would be great if you could do some images with it wide open and at the long end on the k70 as that is where it is pretty poor on my k5. Also re the downside of the raw pef not opening in lightroom I kind of think it is a massive plus that you have choice of 2 formats - just shoot in DNG? keep up the good work and welcome to the pentax family, PS you may find some pentaxians slightly obsessive about them :)

Any lens with an A position on the aperture ring is set up for auto aperture control with K70(or any other Pentax DSLR for that matter).

If I understand it correctly, I should shoot RAW in Adobe DNG instead of PEF. I use LR 4.4.

i am an old pentax lover and i also have ME Super camera

Ricoh have done a great job since they bought Pentax. The ME Super was a great film camera, I have 2 of them although they havent been used in years! I think Ricoh are losing out to the major players, they are not innovating any where near as much as Sony and Panasonic. Take the K1 mark 2 for example, exactly the same as the K1 bar a few tweaks, thats not innovation!

nice Video, I am shooting Pentax since the digital kx, the PEF Format was introduced some years ago, and I don't think that Adobe will add support any time soon, but you should take a look at the Silkypix Software which is bundled with the Camera, since it supports some Pentax specific features like the pixel shift resolution for the K1 and the wider dynamic range oft the PEF Format. Just convert the PEF to uncompressed TIFF and you are good to go. Looking forward to the Review since my K30 needs an Upgrade in Resolution. Maybe the K70? ;-)

99.9999% of Pentax users shoot their raws in DNG. You don't need to wait for an Adobe update to use them.

You are correct to point out Pentax offer both RAW formats, their own PEF and Adobe DNG. I recently purchased a K3 and I now set both cameras to DNG. The beauty with the K3 it has 2 SD card slots so I set one to record in DNG and the other to JPG for quick download to my ipad Pro.
