The Fourth Way: An Introduction to the Teachings of Gurdjieff (His Advice on Spiritual Development). This a short introduction to the work of Gurdjieff. Did you hear from Gurdjieff and are interested to learn something about his teachings? To be honest, I couldn’t find any good videos about him on youtube and in my opinion, his books are not that easy to read. However, he has some really valuable spiritual teachings.
George Ivanovich Gurdjieff was a Russian philosopher and mystic but he already passed away in 1949.
Let’s dive into his teachings… WATCH with Me 😊

@@Till_Talk No it won't. Outlining a basic concept is never enough to make a difference. You have to be practising with specific actions, ways and means. In other words you have to something. Action is a decider always.

His way of teaching reminds me of the way "Koans" are used in Zen Buddhism. Giving a student a task, in this case a short text, in order to make him or her question everything and break free from the robotic way of being. Here is an example :) Nanquan’s “Water Buffalo”: Zen master Congshen of Zhaozhou [Zhenji] asked his teacher, Nanquan, “Where will the one who knows go?” Nanquan said, “To a donor’s house near the mountain, and become a water buffalo.” Zhaozhou thanked him for his teaching. Nanquan said, “Late last night the moonlight came through the window.”

Yeah, that's true. However, I guess gurdjieff came up with more practical or also physical tasks that are not only limited to the intelectual plane. That's a tough one 🤔😁 if I can make sense of it I will leave another comment 😋🌮

Rupert Spira points eloquently to one's true nature..I think that a combination of his pointers and Eckhart Tolle's present moment awareness practises helps immensely in a person's unfolding of the Self.
@Till_Talk
@Till_Talk 2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. Rupert tries to describe awareness in a more scientific and rational or more neutral way which makes it easier to understand for western people I think. Some of his books are very good for people who have a basic understanding but want to go deeper.

Gurdjieff father was Greek and his mother was Armenian. His Russian was bad and he had strong Armenian accent when he was speaking that language.

That probably explains why he was relying on others when it came to different languages. Thanks for the information. 🙂👌

It seems like he became a master and had a lot of people blindly following him so they could become independent thinkers and individuals. Don’t make no sense to me if you know what I mean.
@Till_Talk
@Till_Talk Жыл бұрын
I get your point and your criticism is definitely legit but if you look at some of his students you will see that not 'everyone' was blindly following him. I would differentiate between people who blindly followed him 'as you said' and people who followed him because they had genuine faith in him or recognized something in him that they saw that he had a lot of insight. Gurdjieff himself was also critical and didn't want to take 'everyone' on his journey, only the one's who were really serious about it. But as you said, I think nowadays it's the same. As long as if there is a guru, master, realized being you will find people who are gathering around them and hoping to 'attain something'... Krishnamurti has talked about this topic as well.

My assessment is that he was unable to pass on what he had. His knowledge more or less died with him. Leo from The Emin set out similar pathways, frameworks, and grids for development in a much more comprehensible way. For people lost and seeking I would look there not to Gurdjieff.

I agree that his teachings are kind of special, more esoteric, and not for everyone. Also, not something for me, at least right now. Still, I think that they are people ou there who can benefit from his teachings. 🙂
