This will be a basic introduction to vectors. Vectors communicate 2 pieces of information, direction and length. Graphically we represent vectors with an arrow, and structurally we represent vectors with their components.

The missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn't, by subtracting where it is, from where it isn't, or where it isn't, from where it is, whichever is greater, it obtains a difference, or deviation. The guidance sub-system uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is, to a position where it isn't, and arriving at a position where it wasn't, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn't, and it follows that the position where it was, is now the position that it isn't. In the event of the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn't, the system has required a variation. The variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn't. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too, may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was. The missile guidance computance scenario works as follows: Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is, however it is sure where it isn't, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subracts where it should be, from where it wasn't, or vice versa. By differentiating this from the algebraic sum og where it shouldn't be, and where it was. It is able to obtain a deviation, and a variation, which is called "air"

So what i get from this video is vectors can be represented on a graph They have a direction and length/magnitude They can be presented in rows and columns Negative value means moving to the left The column represents the direction since its kinda like coordinates, while the length can be found by phythogras theorm maybe.

How do I know the vector starts in the origin and not in point (4, 5)?
@BomWatchOut
@BomWatchOut 8 жыл бұрын
+Sjaak van Dijk This is simple mathematics. what he explained as V = [3,1] can also be written with the equation Y=X/3. i came here without knowing vectors symbolize hypotenuse in a way. And to answer your questions, the equation i made Y = X/3 passes through the origin because when Y or X is 0 the other value also is 0
@jacobvandijk6525

+BomWatchOut Huh??? My question was: "How do you know where a vector starts?"
@BomWatchOut
@BomWatchOut 8 жыл бұрын
+Sjaak van Dijk well then. The vector is an infinite line so there really is no start point. I guess that is why people like to reference o,o as the start point or if it doesn't go through there they reference the Y interception. just my opinion there
@jacobvandijk6525
@jacobvandijk6525 8 жыл бұрын
+BomWatchOut I guess you meant to say that a vector can be a part of an infinite line.
@jacobs-h398
@jacobs-h398 8 жыл бұрын
+Sjaak van Dijk I could be wrong but I think point vectors always start at the origin, so to express a vector not starting at the origin you just do vector addition between the start and end of your desired vector.

okay, already disagree on first point "Length/magnitude" - length is different to magnitude, magnitude is size. Length is one-dimensional, size can be 2- or 3-dimensional (A line , which is one-dimensional. Length is a measurement of the distance between two points on a line(or more technically a curve)..need to review fundamentals of geometry) . But you are right with the definition of a vector, a vector is an object which has both magnitude(size) and direction. I'm not sure why you put the x,y components in square brackets, it might indicate it's a closed interval (in function notation) or perhaps a line segment (in geometry)? And then when you show the vertical matrix, you dont say it's matrix notation...but again, you did mention the words "Column vector", so good on ya! (P.S. for anyone wondering why I used the word "object", in physics (or applied mathematics), this may be a force, acting in a particular direction, but in pure maths, there is no such thing as a force, only a vector. It's just a more abstract concept of a force. Other than that, great video!
@rootmath
@rootmath 8 ай бұрын
Magnitude is a scalar (1 dimensional) and it is equal to the length of the vector. These two terms are the same, but typically in math we say length or norm and in physics we say magnitude.

@rootmath
@rootmath 4 жыл бұрын
The notation for vectors isn't directly related to slope nor is it a fraction. The notation is that the first (top or left) component tells you the steps to take in the x direction and the second (right or bottom) tells you the steps to take in the y direction. If you want to compute the slope of a line which lies along that vector than you can do that by looking at the rise (y) over the run (x) and you'd get, in this example, that the slope is 1/3.
