no, you go by the original direction of the arrow, as we are given that going from O->X is a going the other way must be -a, he had just drawn the arrow to show you which direction minus a is

Very helpful . Thank you so much 😊 but in practice questions, I didn’t understand the question 12,13and14 . Even I have seen their solutions. Especially in question 12 I don’t understand where alpha comes from.

Alpha is just a constant like we might use "k". Since I know there will be multiple constants I chose to use alpha/beta but it could be any letter really. We just know that when one vector is parallel to another they will be multiples of each other so if AB and CD are paralle then AB = k * CD (Or AB = alpha x CD)
