I love the uniqueness of Monster High dolls due to the differences of their body and head shape compared to a typical Barbie but after seeing this I think I'm starting to like the smaller heads too because it's more proportionate to the body and looks good overall. Might try to do this with some of my dolls too some day.

Yep, it's all about personal taste, but nothing wrong with liking both in turn!

Once you see them with the shrunken heads, the original size looks so ridiculously huge lol! Great intro video, I'll be checking out the processes. Thanks for posting them! 💕

I like the proportionality of shrinking their heads and until I stumbled across your videos, I didn't even know about this process. I've seen all your videos on this, then picked a doll I had no plans for for a test subject and used your method to give it a try. My first attempt is doing well and sitting in a vise right now for reshaping. Thank you for these tutorials!

The dolls look a lot better with their heads shrunken. Maybe the bigger heads was part of a design aesthetic or something??

This is so perfect. I have a few dolls that have heads I want to shrink (they are just TOO big) but I didn't want to lose the factory paint. Thank you!!

I tried both methods by the tutorials provided on the channel - slow first(but messed up with rinsing the head after removing it from the jar), then... fast method. On a head I was worried about. I feel lucky I tried shinking EAH head(some very close holes, 1 hour soak with checking few times) with glue and hair thoroughly removed as my first attempt~ They look adorable~!

wow! The heads look much more proportional to the bodies with shrinking! I didn't know you could do that. I'm thinking about making my own doll for fun, so this is very helpful!

I make Marvel Legends (mainly female) customs (Hobby dont sell them) and I have tried so many way to give them hair. I'm going to try shrink a small head (enchantimals, Barbie Chelsea dolls) to see if they become smaller for action figure (6 inch) bodies. Thank you sooo much for this video 😍🌈❤️

Wow you are so knowledgeable about the vinyl and why it shrinks and what happens to the hair etc...Im blown away at how much better the dolls look with a smaller head... Ive been a Reborn doll artist for 16 years and have just started repainting these type of dolls a couple of months ago..Im still in the learning phase.. Do you know whether the glue holding the hair , after a few years, if it dries and cracks during the process now, will it let the hair eventually fall out? Should i re-glue it before putting it back on the body to avoid that?
@QuietBloom5 жыл бұрын
I've successfully shrunk 4 Frankie heads in 100% acetone. If the heads end up deformed at all, I just soften them up in boiling water and the vinyl relaxes back into position. You can also gently press out any areas that have collapsed. :)

I think acetone can help defrizz hair. I am working on Disney Animator Doll (Merida) I am not sure what kind of hair they used, possibly Saran, but I've stroked her hair with cotton balls very wet with acetone on them and it makes a big difference in the hair's texture. The smaller the section the better. It comes up soft and I can curl the hair around my fingers while the acetone evaporates. With a good bit of stroking, even frizzy hair calms down a bit. Frizzy hair except for the ends which, if I had to guess, were cut with heat. I'm going to try to refill plugs that are scanty next.

Hi! I don't know if you're around on KZbin anymore, but I really liked the extra joint modifications on your Draculaura; they look so neat and tidy, I'd love to see a tutorial on how to do that!
@sarahhenley98084 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the doll as 6:48? Because that is a Frightfully Tall line Draculaura. Frightfully Tall dolls are much larger than regular dolls and have more complicated joints.
@aquabluerose77343 жыл бұрын
@@sarahhenley9808 yep, I have a Frightfully Tall Draculaura as well and she has those joints. I need to redo her faceup bc I used a sealant that got sticky before I had started using MSC to seal my dolls.

I love the look of the smaller heads! I feel like they can be taken more seriously in customization! Just a more mature, professional, and slightly artistic look to me. I always used to wish I could just shrink the heads down a bit, but now I know I can. I was planning on cutting the eyes out of my next repaint. It is a monster high Ghoulia. I want inset eyes. Would you recommend shrinking the head first, or cutting out the eyes?

Can i re-root a head after the process is done without problem?
@dirilidolls73568 жыл бұрын
Yep! I'll be doing a tutorial on that a bit later, but if you do it before the head is full dry, it's nearly the same as rerooting in a normal head. It's a little bit different if it's fully hardened back up. You need to use something appropriate to widen the plugs again as you're rooting.

Have you heard of and/or shrunk the head of a Begoth doll? they have very large heads on a barbie size body but it's so hard, I doubt it's vinyl. I have a double I'm wanting to customize at some point, but since their skin is kinda gray I can't rebody one to barbie.
@dirilidolls73568 жыл бұрын
No, unfortunately I haven't had my hands on a Begoth doll as of yet. It looks like they have rooted hair which suggests that they are made of a hard vinyl since I don't think they root in hard plastic? There are some vinyls that are very hard, but they still shrink.

does it affect the hair at all, to leave it in acetone for so long? I mean I'd probably re-glue the inside after doing this just to be on the safe side but have you ever come accross weird results on the hair or caused by the hair?
@dirilidolls73568 жыл бұрын
Kanekalon is the only thing I've seen have problems, like I mentioned in the video. As long as you make sure the hair is clean, I haven't seen any other problems so far. Nylon and saran are perfectly fine with acetone.

Hi and thank you so much for your videos ! I'd love to try head shrinking on MH but mine have actually holes in their face for their glass inserted eyes (they're already customized). Can I try a slow shrink or do you think it'll break the head as well ? :/
@dirilidolls73568 жыл бұрын
It is possible. I can't guarantee that it would be completely safe, especially without seeing it. Definitely slow shrink and not fast shrink though. As long as the jar is large enough it ought to be ok. To be even safer, you may want to dilute the soaking solution with just a little more water than average, like perhaps 25% water instead of 10%
@m6i6n6x3 жыл бұрын

Do you know if this would work on My Little Pony brushables? (Not Equestria Girls, the actual pony toys) I didn’t find any information on what they were made of so I really don’t know if this would work. I don’t want to shrink only the head, but the whole body (though it feels like it’s all pretty much the same material). If you have any information about if it would work or not, please tell me, I would be really grateful ^^

Do you think patching Frankie's or another doll's crazy hairline could stabilise them enough for a fast shrink?
@dirilidolls73568 жыл бұрын
As far as I've been able to figure, there's no way to stabilize her enough for a fast shrink without breaking, but come to think of it... I've never dehaired one before trying a fast shrink... I think I might have 1 or 2 extra bait Frankie heads I could try that on and see!

When the head is placed in acetone, the face will be erased 100%. Then the face must be redrawn. It is impossible for the face to remain after placing the head in acetone.

She's mentioned in her videos that the acetone will initially cause the head to expand/swell. The shrinking actually doesn't happen until it's drying and the acetone evaporates.

This is way off topic and this video was made a while back. But I’m only 1/4 into the video, and I’ve noticed that once you shrink the heads to be proportionate to the body they look starved. I’m currently dealing with an eating disorder, sort of in recovery. And the dolls only really look like they’re ill when their head looks proportionate, it only ever then feels real. I know the face up is changed as well but I don’t think that’s what kind of disturbs me about this whole thing. I don’t know, I just thought I’d point it out.
