SIP is a standards based protocol that numerous vendors use
Codecs are used to encode voice communication
Codecs determine the Sound Quality and the Bandwidth usage of a call
Most VoIP servers come with codecs that you can use without any extra fees. If you need better codecs they can be purchased
Network Latency and QOS
Network latency is the time it takes for data to get from point A to point B
Standard telephones have a latency of 45ms, VoIP can have a latency of up to 75-100ms.
QOS -- Quality Of Service -- is a feature of networking equipment that allows the equipment to prioritize network traffic based on what it is.
Unified Communications is the idea that computer programs and server should be able to work with telephone communications.

Hi Eli, I am very thankful of your videos. Because of you I got a job in servers. I did not have even the basis idea about networking, servers, protocols, and how things work in business. but you made it so easy for me to understand all the things. I stated watching your worthy videos from last 6 months. I started from basic and keep moving forward. I acquire great knowledge from your videos. At the starting days of interviews, I got the rejection at that early time. But I did not give up and kept trying. Then Finally I got my desire job. the best thing about your videos is that you start from basic terms step bt step and correlate it with practical things which happens in business industries which makes it very simple to understand and it also create interest in learning. And then you take it to the advance level from intermediate from basic and then at the and of the video whatever you described that settle down in our mind. I really like your videos. @@Niche_skills He didn't really say what the job is he's doing right now. If you work with windows servers gui it's probably gonna be a bit easier than doing everything with terminal or unix like systems (depends what you're used to anyway. Maybe Windows is harde to understand because you used Mac all your life?). But ofcourse basics like Ip's, Masking, DNS and DHCP (which technically isn't required in a network but it does makes things far more easier for you) and various security options are as good as being used everywhere. So yeah it's hard to say. If it is indeed what he's working with right now it wouldn't be so hard to imagine that you could land a job with it. Especially if you create your own roads, started with this type of videos. A good dose of passion is also necessary ofcourse or you'll stop learning and eventually fall behind.

I know this video has been kicking around for some years now and the many others made have led to a new path /position for Eli. Why? I set up a dial-operated telephone to work with my router. I love old technology. It's much more charming, easier to fix and in many cases safer (less EMF radiation, harder to breach), too. That digital craze is stupid and environmentally quenstionable (think power hunger) in my eyes. A normal landline is much more robust than an internet-powered telephone (think power outages, router failures, IP-leasing issues etc.; Unfortunately, I cannot afford an additional landline, so I am stuck with my VoIP solution.)

Fone Star -- VOIP doesn't suck! Yes, there are some crappy VOIP phones out there. (There are also some excellent ones.) I run several mid-sized businesses on VOIP. I can accomplish now for literally PENNIES what used to cost an arm and a leg. We no longer even think about "per minute charges" for our call centers. I can distribute personnel however I see fit around the globe without issue. Call quality is generally much better than I was getting thanks to great codecs like g722. Conference calls are a breeze. I could NEVER go back to antiquated old systems like Panasonic, Nortel and the like. I've built many Asterisk solutions for "hundreds of bucks" that completely outperform systems that cost tens of thousands of dollars. Seems like a lot of old "phone pros" feel intimidated by VOIP and Asterisk... Don't. Learn Asterisk. Your clients will love you and your bank account will grow.

VOIP uses the UDP protocol instead of just TCP. Using TCP would be too slow for real-time voice.

Saiga S UDP provides speed but not reliable security which is the opposite of the TCP wherein a little bit slower but more reliable in security.

TCP does not provide any security at all, just like UDP. TCP gurantees the order and delivery of the data that you're sending, whereas UDP does not. This makes TCP a lot slower and if the data doesn't arrive, it has to resend until it arrives, which can create delays in VOIP. So UDP is much desired over TCP when it comes to VOIP.

Eli is pronouncing it correctly! 99% of people can not tell the diference between Internet (eee)nternet & our tech jargon of Ether-net. (bEth). A Word has the priority to convey a Meaning, not gramaticaly correct literature pronounciation.
