In this video, I’m wearing one of our own “Tool-O-Rama Anvil” aprons that we designed and created from Zazzle. Our new “Tool-O-Rama” Anvil design features everything a metalsmith might want or need in their studio. As metalsmiths and professors, we’ve been creating each individual tool graphic over the years to embellish our studios and handouts. Just for fun, we made this composite image and printed it on some work aprons for ourselves. We like it so much, we thought we would share it with everyone! You can even order one for yourself or as a gift: www.zazzle.com/store/jamesthurman

How do you clean and polish the piece after soldering/welding?
@JamesThurman4 ай бұрын
Any remaining flux can just be washed off with soap & water. Then you can go ahead with whatever finish you prefer (matte, higher polish, etc.). Thanks for watching and I hope this is helpful!

Hello! Thank you for this informative video! Would you mind sharing where you purchased the flux that you use? I do not see it on the Contenti website. Thank you!
@JamesThurman3 жыл бұрын
For flux, I like H And N Electronics: 1 (760) 373-8033. This flux is healthier and works great with the bismuth-based solder.

@@JamesThurman Turns out I have another question: I see two solders for Pewter on the Contenti website, one states that it contains cadmium, which I would like to stay away from; the other does not state, so I'm not sure if it has cadmium or not. Is there a specific solder that you recommend? Thanks again!!

@@cathyenright9253 For solder, I purchase from Stellar Technical (melting point 281F) : stellartechnical.com/collections/lead-free-wire-solder-for-industrial-soldering/products/super-low-temp-solder-wire-for-pewter-062

Does pewter solder onto steel?
@JamesThurman Жыл бұрын
Technically yes but it's not a strong connection that I would trust. Feel free to email me specifics of what you are interested in trying to do...

@@JamesThurman thank you for the reply! used pewter is much cheaper tan tin or lead it seems. I was thinking of using it on body panels to fill in rust holes . I figure using acid flux would work with it?
@JamesThurman Жыл бұрын
@@shinigami117s8 Yes, acid flux will work with pewter. So glad to hear you aren't using lead the way they used to for those body panels!

What is the difference between welding and soldering?
@JamesThurman3 жыл бұрын
Welding is connecting pieces of metal using a temperature closer to the metal's melting point with a filler metal of the same kind. Soldering is done at a lower temperature using an alloy to connect the pieces of metal. I hope that helps!
