Love experimenting like this with different materials. I almost jumped up off the sofa when the little explosion happened as I had my headphones on and was really relaxed 💥😂

Oh sure you can it's low temp only like 400f or for you 190c. It only hurts a little bit when it touches your skin but shouldn't burn the shop down. 😛

I made my forge with a shop vac in reverse and an old brake drum. Using anthracite coal will give you enough heat to melt through the brake drum if you keep it going. Just a thought if you wanted to do aluminum. I've even melted ceramic with it by accident.
@LastLeafStudioVideo4 жыл бұрын
Thanks I do plan on doing some aluminum in the future. I want to make a branding iron for my other projects. I was just going to try a wood fire but coal is probably the way to go.
@andyd29604 жыл бұрын
@@LastLeafStudioVideo well wood can probably get hot enough. I know cooking charcoal does if you don't want to go down the coal road. Coal is kinda overkill for aluminum. But the shop vac is a great bellows.
@LastLeafStudioVideo4 жыл бұрын
@@andyd2960 I can probably just pick up a bag of coal anywhere. I have been wanting to get into blacksmithing a little bit so maybe a coal forge is in the works.

i had so much fun watching this! i enjoyed watching you try, try and try again! The process made me think so much i have tons of questions like... how did you learn to crush that stuff into molding sand? How long did it take you to ground all of that? Most importantly... was that used litter? LOL Wonderful video!
@LastLeafStudioVideo4 жыл бұрын
If you use the blender from the start it doesn't take long to grind. I have done some research on this subject and a lot of people said if you get the cheap cat litter that is just clay you can use it as a binder for the sand. This was unused kitty litter but I bet if you got some used stuff you wouldn't have to add any water.... 🤔 might be something to try in the future.

I always thought about casting with solder now I see it a bad idea
@LastLeafStudioVideo4 жыл бұрын
I bet you could do it if you find some that doesn't have a rosin core. Or melt it down and pour off all the bad stuff and remelt it. I think i will give it another try in the future.

Is solder poisonous like lead?

I am pretty sure it is lead free but I never really thought about it.
