One of the few things I like in these modern times is the fact that everybody who can afford an internet bill can follow the lessons of the greatest universities in the world. Not too along time ago only the best and the richest guys and girls in the world could have this priviledge. You will not have a piece of paper with "Oxford Universitiy" written on top of it, but the knowledge is inside of you, and this is just priceless, no matter if you live in Bel Air, Cheliabinsk, Soweto or in a San Paolo Favela (just to name a few, no hate, please). Calculus is just calculus even later on
@zexcthd5519 Жыл бұрын
Calculus is actually harder in the earlier stages. I would say calculus 2 is the hardest as they go hardcore in depth into integration principles and how they apply to getting areas which for engineering can be useful for getting volumes of an object that has a changing volume. Calc 3 is taking all that and just throwing it in 3D.
@TheMrKlowb Жыл бұрын
@@zexcthd5519 yes, calc 2 is one the weed-out courses in engineering along with thermo, dynamics(sometimes even statics as people don't expect phys 1 sem 1 problems to be as complex as you can make them) and circuits. those courses are much harder than the previous or following course so they end up flunking a lot of folks out. all degrees have these courses - chem/bio has orgo, nursing has phyiscs/orgo, math has calc 2, etc. What you find is a lot of the weed out courses are the same across degrees - it's the course and not really the person, genreally. You can extrapolate meaning from that but I found it interesting.

You are right, this is very easy math (with the right guidance)... but i would never start with freaking differential equations with some kids that just got out of high school. I would teach them first what a derivative is, a function, continuity, etc and then start with the harder stuff. Courses like these are sadly too unorganized and thry never learn stuff like "stability, existence and uniqueness, linearizations, ..."

@BladeCast because you are maybe seeing these things for the first time. It really is not hard. Not at all. One just has to invest the time to learn it. But this is the math, thanks to which we have our modern world.

as an 11 year old from China, I’m afraid I barely understand this- Notes for myself: Derivative is a variable derived from another variable. Independent Variables are variables that are unknown but don’t need to rely on other variables to figure out their answers (I think) Force = mass multiplied by acceleration. Acceleration is a derivative of the velocity with respect to time. (Differential equation) Second order derivation v is dr/dt is the displacement. example; a is d^2 square / dt^2 = second order. Circuit components; R - Resistor L, inductor L, Inductance C - capacitor with capacitance Source of voltage - battery (V) RLC R - Resistor L - Inductor C - Capacitor with capacitance R, L, C are constants. - independent of time (doesn’t rely on it) Current across the circuit across L (T) current across circuit - function of time. T (time) independent I(T) dependent. Q(T) charge on the capacitor. Relation I = dQ / dT. Kirchhoff’s law. Total voltage is 0 around the circuit, Voltage V from the battery which is a function of time, equals the voltage across the r + the v across the r + the v on the c. Voltage across the resistor is R times I (T) Capacitor is 1/C Inductor is L dI /dt (Faraday’s law) I is dQ / dt, so u can rewrite everything in terms of Q, which becomes a second-order differential equation in turn, appearing in EC (electrical circuits.) Constant Coefficients because RLC are constant, (in homogeneous, because does not has to be 0.) The amount of Radioactive substance decays is proportional to the remaining number of atoms. the amount of decay is determined by the number of atoms, so d is dependent on a. d / a would equal the decay by atoms, but there’s also time, so add t inside. dt / a?? dy/dx = f(x), solved by integration. useful techniques: integration by parts ~ product rule If I have 2 functions ( f and g), and multiply then, and differentiate them. F x G prime, is f prime g + f g prime. If I f times g prime, equals f x g prime - f prime times f, and if I integrate both sides, I end up with the ibp. f x g prime - f prime x g dx. (f g) ! = f! g + f g prime . f x g ! = f x g ! - f! x f = ibp.

I like how Dan breaks down the use cases into applications (e.g. mechanics) 👍

i rly think math teachers should give exmaples on how to aply the math they teach, lots of time feels like we are learning stuf that are completly useless even for engineers

Everyone's wondering why this is in their recommendations, but can we talk about how cool that board is? I've already graduated from university but I've never seen a board like that ever.

It's not a proper classroom unless there's someone constantly coughing. It's practically a law. Someone MUST be coughing in every class otherwise the universe would fall apart lmao

Ghostly 00 Dude that’s shit is so irritating!! I can barely focus on the video with all that damn coughing!!
@therandomdot25635 жыл бұрын
Someone coughing is actually polite compared to most classes I was in. Had a lot of foreign exchange students that thought classroom time = talk loudly to your group of friends. Some profs were too polite to tell them to STFU, so I'd speak up and ask them to quiet down, because I'm not paying money to hear them speak; I'm paying to hear the professor speak.

Seems like this is a lot to take in. Oxford is definitely no joke. Still, we appreciate Professor Dan for making the lectures more worthwhile to come across.
