INTUITION / INTUICIÓN. Gabi Pareras

Over the last few years, Gabi was working on what he referred to "perceptive consciousness" and the connection between brain, mind, and consciousness. We know, since Ascanio, that in every effect of magic there is an “Internal Life” (the sleights, methods and secret artifices that make impossible effects possible and that they should not be accessible to the spectator ) and the “External Life”, which consist each gesture, action, and word having the intentionality to influence and affect the spectator’s experience. Nevertheless, Gabi realized that only some parts of the “External Life” get to the conscious mind of the spectator and remains in his memory, this is what he referred to Mental Life. The Mental Life is the version that the "observer" actually makes from the experience proposed by the Magician (the Director’s cut in cinematographic terms) dismissing and substantially modifying events and actions of the External Life that he has perceived. In Gabi's own words referring to this concept, “the best version of a magic routine is the spectator’s”
Working with this approach, Gabi found ideas that seemed crazy or impossible to carry out but, "the version of the effect" that the spectator creates in their minds, allows for the inclusion of incongruences or illogical facts that aren't perceived consciously, but still allow the effect to function perfectly. One of the simplest and most radical examples is this effect called "intuition," which is more a perceptive exercise than a practical trick. Although it is still effective (in Gabi's hands) and opened the ban to new ideas and routines even more complex and fascinating.

Durante los últimos años Gabi estuvo trabajando en lo que él dio en llamar “conciencia perceptiva” y la conexión entre cerebro, mente y conciencia. Sabemos, desde Arturo de Ascanio, que en todo juego de magia hay una Vida Interna (las trampas y artificios secretos que hacen posible el efecto y que no deben ser accesibles al espectador) y la Vida Externa, aquella que se le presenta al espectador y donde cada gesto, acción y palabra tiene una intencionalidad destinada a incidir en la experiencia mágica del que mira. No obstante, Gabi advirtió que sólo una parte de esta Vida Externa llega al consciente del espectador y se queda en su memoria, esto es a lo que Gabi denominó Vida Mental . La Vida Mental es la versión que el “observador” hace del juego (“el montaje” en términos cinematográficos) eliminando y matizando eventos y acciones de la Vida Externa que ha percibido. En las propias palabras de Gabi refiriéndose a este concepto, “la mejor versión un juego es la que el espectador hace del mismo”
Trabajando desde este prisma, Gabi encontró ideas que podrían parecer locas o imposibles de llevar a cabo pero que, conociendo “la versión del juego” que el espectador crea en su mente, permitían incluir incongruencias o datos ilógicos que, al no ser percibidos conscientemente, funcionaban perfectamente. Uno de los ejemplos más simples y radicales es este juego llamado “intuición”, que siendo más un ejercicio perceptivo que un efecto práctico, no deja de resultar efectivo y (en el caso de Gabi) abrió la veda a ideas y rutinas aún más complejas y fascinantes.

Luego de haber visto el live de Gabi, por fin entiendo por qué juegos tan sencillos, en sus manos eran maravillas.

Pues el segundo movimiento lo pierdo... De todos modos Gabi demuestra que el 50% de la magia del ilusionismo y prestidigitación .... No está en la baraja
