I’ve been doing this since this video. I started putting it on my jigs and craws. If they bite it they will not let go of your bait. I actually modified my own concoction but works great. Thanks.

I take a different route with mine. I'll tie a piece of red yarn on the eye of the treble then cut the tags flush with the bottom of the hook as not to tangle. I like a feathered treble on the back, the yarn and feathers will hold scent to. I just give it a squirt from the bottom and let it rip. Yours should last longer, but I make a mess as it is.

I'm 70yo, the thing I learned about 55 years ago was before I released fish I would rub my lure on the fish and get the lure slimy. You know how long the slime stays on your hands when you wash them is about how long the slime stays on your lure.

The Salt Strong guys have a KZbin channel, and they sell baits and have a club with help for saltwater fishin'. They say that some fish's sense of smell is 10,000 times stronger than a dog's. So it makes sense to put scents on baits. I don't understand why garlic is better than natural bait scents, but I've seen garlic Power Bait catch trout in freshwater. Maybe soft plastics with a little sponge built in for scents would be a good idea.

Hey, 30 years ago I went salmon fishing in the Columbia River with a guide named Mel. Fishing with herring. One of the baits he shot a bunch of WD-40 into the herring. No matter which side of the boat, the WD bait got way more hits. All 3 fish that day landed were WD baits. So, maybe Jiff ????

Well I wrote a college paper on largemouth bass and my research told me that fish can smell underwater, however, the smell needs to be soluble in water, and I'm sorry but the "oils" in peanut butter are not water soluble. Think of like blood in the water how is diffuses and spreads in the water until you cant see it, oil clumps together and is hydrophobic so it repells water. This is why oil floats and doesn't mix with water. The paper I wrote was an entire semester long research paper. Here is one source I found: "One thing scientists do know is that bass and other fish species can only interpret scents that are water soluble. Fish “smell” by interpreting chemical signatures that are dissolved in the water. Scents that are heavy in oil may smell great to you, but they won't dissolve and thus the fish won't get a good whiff." By all means do whatever you feel works, but I dont buy any fish scents that are oil based nor will I be slathering peanut butter on my fishing gear. I mean, it makes sense right? When you think about a shark smelling a drop of blood in an Olympic sized pool, they can do that because it is water soluble, not because the blood is floating on top of the water. There might be stuff in the peanut butter that is able dissolve out, but the oil I am 100% certain isn't "helping." I argue by using it, you are simply giving yourself more confidence which leads to a couple more bites. A scent that dissolves in water and is designed for bass would be much more effective. And I would stay away from any oil based products. I guess the garlic powder might help... but the peanut butter is only making it stick. It's certainly a confidence thing. You are smelling it and saying it smells like peanut butter and garlic but that isn't really what the fish is smelling imo
@daltonwade7908 Жыл бұрын
Fish are oily , bait fish are oily most of the scent they give off is from the oil.
@TheDedloc Жыл бұрын
@@daltonwade7908 Okay, are you telling me I'm wrong?
@TheDedloc Жыл бұрын
@@daltonwade7908 Yes, most of the scent they give off for YOU to smell is from the oil. A bass is not hunting bait fish based on their oily fish coatings. They have lots of other senses they use which is why you can throw plastic at them and still catch them. Even Randy says that it MAY make a marginal difference... it isn't going to take you from not catching anything to crushing them. "If you catch 20 bass you might catch 22 or 23." If you run a chi test on this with a big enough sample sizes and enough times, I would highly doubt that the P value is around or anywhere even close to .05 or 5%. Which is the acceptable value in the scientific community... and still doesn't "prove" anything. It can only support or reject the null hypothesis. There is a very specific way this shit works in the scientific community and if ur going to play scientist then you have to play by the rules. I'm sorry, but you dont get to just make shit up as you go. What YOU smell and what a bass smells from any sort of bait fish is NOT what you think it is. A fish's waste is water soluble... it could be a chemical signature in the waste that comes off a fish. You may not be completely wrong, but ur definitely not right.
