How to catch fish in clear water? Spinning rod, 4lb line or in my case leader, small jighead and Hazedong shad. That's all you need.
@maxcole39305 ай бұрын
I've never went that small on line. I used 8-14lb floro for everything for finesse to power & used 20lb floro for big swimbaits. My old home lake was extremely clear 15-20' vis on average. It only had largemouth, no smallmouth or spotted bass. It was an abandoned gravel pit in southern Ohio.

I know you are not a fan of forward facing sonar, but I have found it to be extremely helpful in really clear water. Fish are much more aware of boat traffic, especially in lower fishing pressure scenarios. Unfortunately without it you only get the data from the fish who are reacting to the movement of your boat. Trying to get data by using your trolling motor only is tough because you're moving so slow on 2D and of course di/si. I fish a private lake that is 10 to 15 ft sometimes up to 20 ft visibility. Grass grows down to 40 ft. FFS has been extremely crucial in learning the behavior and where they are in the water column. I don't have a screen big enough to video game fish. I just use it for structure and hitting targets like grass lines
@nickbrueggeman34132 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishdoctor1952 I got lu Iivescope w/ Garmin 73 usv. Only 7" screen, which in looking 40 ft or more ahead and 25-35 ft deep, fish are specs. BUT priceless in learning where they are in the water column, finding off shore structure/hitting targets, grass lines, and contour/structure transition. fantastic learning tool, confidence builder if you are fishing the right places at right depth. Battery killing sob, but i manage :)

I fish an ultra gin clear reservoir, 20'+ but more realistically it's 40'. So clear on a bright night I can see the bottom in 10'. My pb largemouth came from about 3 ' of water on a spook. She blew it up, about 10 am late October overcast with a little bit of mist. I've been working nights 7 pm to 7 am. I had to go fishing last night just to keep my sleep schedule. Buzzbait over shallow grass was the winner. I love clear to clean water. It does seem in murky to muddy water the bass are way more predictable, those clear water bass travel. I think it forces me to be more flexible in my process .

Great info, Randy! I've had some bass hit a giant morning dawn/chartreuse rat mid-day in gin clear water. My buddy was laughing at me til I got my first blowup, 😂. If I had anything to add to this it would be to make as long of a cast as possible. Clearwater fish seem to spook a lot easier, so if you see them that means they see you, and your likelihood of catching that fish just went down exponentially. When I'm powerfishing with crankbaits I'll lean towards silent and more finessy cranks. (Unless the waters murky or stained). Color of bait is essential, too. You can match the hatch and do well, but sometimes crazy colors will outproduce any other color. Black in clear water can be the deal too. I'm still trying to master clear water, so I look forward to an hour long seminar.

Randy I’ve been spending the last 2 weeks trying to find some actually useful advice for clear water because I found a pond at the local golf course and it’s Crystal clear, nothing better than seeing an upload from my favorite bass channel

Being in the North East I fish some extremely clear water. A couple things that I’ve found is that extremely fast moving baits get reaction bites and good overhead cover increases the number of fish in extremely shallow water

Overhead cover like my favorite, floating eelgrass blown into dock, boathouse, or shoreline corners

I started just putting fluro and mono on my spinning and baitcaster setups because my 10-50 braid always gets pulled into itself after a good fish it annoying. Great topic!!! I have always struggled in gin clear water with the visibility of 10 to 20 feet. I always felt like I lost my confidence due to the fish being able to detect my movement in the boat. Thanks for helping me understand that fish will still be active depending on depth.

yep, Lake Glenville ( Thorpe res.) Gin clear most of the time. Odd lake to fish, no big river flowing into it, several small streams. Blueback herring are the main forage. Calm days kick my butt there. Give it a stiff wind all day, the wind driven current at points can make for some great fishing. I have done well snap jigging like I would do for walleye, in about 30 foot depths. I wonder if you have fished Glenville? Near Cashiers North Carolina. Cool that you spend time with your boy playing. You are nice. Thanks, George.

I'm on Lake Glenville too. Adding to your comment, at 3500 ft. it is the highest elevation lake east of the Mississippi. In other words, as you mentioned why we have walleye in a N.C. lake. I've had a decent (not great) year thus far on Glenville fishing for smallies and largemouth.

Great info and spot on. This early summer I was bank fishing a long deep skinny creek arm with at least 18-20ft vis. I was casting to submerged bank wood on the other side with a small frog(Karera) in bluegill color. I worked it painfully slow and when it would get close enough to see below the lure the bass would be following a few feet down. If I was patient, they would take it just before it reached my bank. Most fun I've had in a long time watching 2-3lb bas following and finally sucking in my Frog! Elijah sure loves being out with you. Great to see! 😃👍

Clear water the fish are so much more predictable, and easier to catch and pattern than in dirty water. To the visibility thing flat sunny weather smoke based plastics rule, overcast or sunny with waves to break up the light water red rules. Look at a gill on a sunny day and overcast day they look different and to me that explains the color preference shift.
@cgolf1002 жыл бұрын
@@TheFishdoctor1952 when the gills are in bright sun they have a silvery flash to them when the light reflects off them, and overcast you get more of the greens. I have seen light changes shut off one of the colors and the other work. Took me a couple of years to figure out what was happening and what I think is the why. To the second question I don’t fish for them.
