Short story you may like: when my daughter was pre-teen, she loved to go bass fishing with me when I was not in a tournament. Then we went on a church trip and one of the events was a tourist "Trout Lake" in the NC mountains. She was excited to go there. The so-called lake was more like a swimming pool with hundreds of captive trout. All you had to do was drop a piece of corn on a hook and 'bingo', you caught a fish. After the first one, she put the pole down and said, "This ain't real fishing, this is sissy fishing"... I loved it because I knew I had taught her well. No Spotlighting Bass!!!!

Next time go to some creeks in NC and catch trout. I'm a saltwater guy but I was stuck in the NC foothills for 5 awful years, and I caught trout in Wilson's Creek and around there.

When I take my wife fishing I always put her a kitech Texas rigged on. She doesn’t have much experience fishing but always manages to catch fish with it. She just slow winds bumping along bottom most of the time. It’s a great way for any beginner to just catch fish

This has been my “go-to” for the past three years. I’ve never NOT caught fish using it. I like to run it parallel to grasslines and pitch into holes in the grass. Just note that the Keitech is very soft, and you’ll go through the 8 pack in a half a day. One note, I often have to slightly bury the hook tip because it does pull through easily and the motion becomes erratic.

Early spring and I was bank fishing the same bank using the Rage swim bait 3.25", a very similar bait, catching a few every time out. Then, after a month, no bites at all. I had run out of the bait, saved the torn up baits and had used super glue on the torn up baits until all the baits were torn up, and no bites. I cut the baits I had almost in half and used a 1/4 oz or 3/16 oz jig and started out performing everyone on the bank. Size matters, the fish recognized the 3.25 baits had hooks in them and had started biting my shorter baits. What caused me to try the smaller mod was a video I saw from a drone. The fisherman tossed a Whopper plopper past 3 nice size bass and as soon as it was started being retreived, the bass in unison left the area. Hmm. They knew the bait and avoided it. Using I A's zoom worm 13" heat weld trick when the bass quit biting the short swim bait and I thought no bass were present along the bank, the 13" mod started producing. I now throw multi color welded worms, modified creature baits, whatever does the "different" appearance trick.

Gonna try this up at Saginaw next weekend for the Hobie event!!! I gave it a try last spring after hearing you mention it in another video, and it actually worked for me, I had two about 3 lbs each, then I laid it down to topwater fish the rest of the day. Haven't tried it since. Thanks for reminding me about it, def gonna flip it around the pencil reeds at Saginaw!

Randy, what’s the custom on the pro fishing tours of competitors approaching an angler who is having success and asking what bait or lure they’re using? And what is the custom if another competitor is asking you what you’re fishing? Do most anglers respond truthfully, decline to respond, or give only a half truthful response, leaving out some particular equipment or technique? Thanks and great video.

That was back in the day when all anglers in the pros were friends, not cocky enemies as they are today. If it's an honest question from some guy who shows no ill intent, sure, help him out. It all comes full circle. Just my opinion.

Great tip, I have never used a swimbait, but I can see being successful also since it is a slimmer profile that can go thru grass easily. 👍

Have a question. You talked about a toothpick. Do you wedge it in the hole so the line doesn’t slide at all? Or just do it kinda hard so it slides a little bit less? Thanks. I enjoy your videos. If you ever want to come out to Utah fishing for big Mack’s out to Flaming gorge I’d have you out.

I’ve gone away from the Gamakatsu EWG hooks to the Ryugi Infini EWG hooks. They are sharper, and seem to penetrate easier with that nano coating on them, and I like the alignment of the hook point versus the shank as there’s more bite with the Ryugi.

Always amazed they still don’t sell these rubber baits already laying flat with the proper hooks in them ready for a fisherman to simply tie onto their damned line and get fishing instead of performing surgery and figuring out which of the 80 style hooks and weights should be used….who wouldn’t be willing to pay a bit more to get a plastic case filled with a favorite lure already properly rigged?

I don't like that manufacturer's put that "channel" on the baits. After a few casts, the bend of the hook will start coming through the bait with ease and that hook will become more and more exposed. It works great for the first couple of casts but, after that you have to look at a way of burying that hook into nothing because of the built in channel.

The Keitechs work great but I find their plastic is a little softer than other brands which causes me to readjust the bait on the hook every little bite. Super Glue gel helps at the nose.

You don't need to be having anymore co-anglers on board with you Randy, they are subject to give you a bad case of the Red Ass. That would put you under a lot of stress and you need to stay focused on where you can catch a limit of fish. Be cool. "Hold em Hook!"

The bait might not be rigged nice and centered, or your retrieving it to fast? Also a slightly bigger hook with a lower center of gravity/a belly weighted EWG will act like a keel and help keep the bait upright. Good luck and tight lines out there brother
