I’ll never understand why they didn’t continue this. It’s such a great album. Earnest, stripped back, and hard hitting. I’ve been a fan since acrobatic tenement. Love everything they do, but this was especially like, exactly the kinda music I can’t find anyone else outside of IDLES, Daughters, and Hot Snakes that does it for me these days. Reform Antemasque!
Man I have no idea how Omar comes up with the riffs that he does!!! What a genius!

Ikr. He seriously makes almost every guitar player envious or inspried to play like him, but one else has his cool ass ethnic style & could pull off what he comes up with. All those guys have great taste & style in music.

So glad they placed Dave Elitch behind the drums.. talented drummer who knows his place within the music

I’m a diehard ATDI and TMV fan but I sorta missed Antemasque till recently, so it’s been awesome finally hearing them in earnest. I think when I first checked it out, it was so not TMV that I didn’t give it a chance, but glad I’ve revisited it!

Same here! It came up on my Apple Music mix and I finally gave it a real chance almost 10 years later and loved it lol

Was at this show. blown away by their energy. I thought without the volta wall of noise itd be a little underwhelming but god damn cedric and omar have such stage presence

It's such a rich performance, everything from the interaction with the crowd between songs to the dark and autumnal palette of sound.

What I would give to have seen these shows! If I had to choose one last show without ever seeing another one it would be Antemasque.

Ouch, that was so bloody good. I think I remember seeing this whole performance or watching an excerpt of it that you uploaded last year. Thanks.

Is it just me or has Omar's voice improved? He always kinda sounded atonal to me when he did backing vocs for ATDI and Mars Volta, but sounds really good here.
@Pinko_Band9 жыл бұрын
+Lukas Ketner He never did bg vox for ATDI or MV. Jim Ward did the bg vox for ATDI and Cedric did all the vox for MV. He did sing on a few of his solo albums tho.

+John Thompson That's true for the records, but Omar chimed in on many occasions during live performances with both bands (and typically sounded out of place). That's what I was referring to, and he does sound better in this vid. I'm seeing ATDI in June, so I'm excited to see if he does any bg for that set :)

Just saw them at The Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. They have a knack for sounding branding new, yet always with an old vibe. Antemasque was like Led Zeppelin on steroids and speed, but with Jimi Hendrix on guitar. They are virtuosos.

ATDI latest releases feel much more like Antemasque records than actual ATDI records

Makes me shriver every time. I live in Lubbock and remember the less then a handful times ATDI played as I grew I moved to Seattle following The Mars Volta and Sparta at the time , early 2000s. Sat for hours for the best seat at Bonnaroo 2006, El paso Tx Mars with A perfect circle 2003. Sorry for the bs , a side of there punk Flea was down with, especially recording the bass himself on the studio recordings and Travis B.? Hes a solid Punk rocker on drums maybe? 🇲🇽

Lucky to see them in San Diego... Agree, stripped down but fantastic. Makes a man excited that they are coming back in less than a month. My GF - first time she had seen Cedric and Omar together - I dragged her to Bosnian Rainbows and Zavalaz - never saw them together as TMV. Got to say though... Le Bucherettes just fucking murdered the opening set. Love that Omar is helping talent come through. Not that Teri would have any issues getting noticed at some point! :0 But if Cedric had competition in his younger days - his female equivalent is def Teri.

I heard Travis Barker was going to be drumming for them for some shows. Who was drumming when you saw them?

For them to carry on, would be like trying to duplicate the damage done from a house fire or painting a identical blood splatter on the ceiling that was from a shotgun wound to the head... it's too beautifully chaotic to try to mimic 🖤🖤🖤
