The interesting thing is that some years ago, he considered clay to be his favorite surface and played from meters behind the baseline. He didn't really consider his serve as much of a weapon even until he started working really hard on it. According to his coach, he is one of those cases of players that had talent but didn't work very hard. He somehow had a change of heart a few years ago, hence the breakthrough.

Hey Nick, since you started the video talking about the height of the players, here's a suggestion for another video, "adjustments for smaller players". I'd be very interested to hear the opinion of a high level coach about how a small guy like myself, 1,65m, should behave on the court, tactically speaking. Keep up the good work!

@@IntuitiveTennis I remember watching this one when you released it, great video btw. I do think that my serve is in fact my best shot (I believe I'm 4.0 player), but I have doubts about closing in on the net since it's way easier so lobby or pass a smaller guy. Should I follow more strict rules for running towards the net? Should I use an extended racket? Things like that could make a interesting video I guess.

By pausing your right hand, it is much easier to achieve a good ball toss as there is not much body movement during the toss. Anyone having trouble to do a good toss should try this approach. Due to this pause, you need to toss the ball slightly higher so that you have the extra time to raise the racquet. The challenge of this style of serve is timing because you need to hit the ball which falls down faster due to the high toss.

I met the German Davis Cup coach and in a conversation I asked him who could become a future Grand Slam champion and he said he’s got his eye on Talon! I was a bit surprised, but now I see why. You’re right. 100%! Thanks for this informative video because I’m still trying to figure out what to do on my serve. I’m on a mission! Thanks!

I played on the satellite and challenger tour from 1992-1995. Bad heat stroke stopped my efforts. But every single one of the guys making it on the tour has one hell of a serve. In today’s game, post-Agassi, everyone returns well. It started with Conners. You can’t survive in today’s game without a hell of a serve. Emulating any of them would be beneficial to someone wanting to get better. Avoid the servers with quirky hitches though, they tend to be very unique for a reason.

Another guy with an impressive serve is Thiago Seyboth Wild. His serve is very Federesque. His forehand is very much like Federer, too. Heck, he even looks somewhat like Federer. In beating Taylor Fritz, he served eight aces, winning 96% of his first serves and 69% of 2nd serves. This was incredible serving efficiency. In that match his average serve speed was 121 mph on the first and 116 mph on the 2nd. This was actually somewhat better than Griekspoor, who won 82% and 46%, and averaging 118 mph and 117 mph on 1st and 2nd serves respectively, in his win against A. Michelsen. Wild's age is 24 and Griekspoor is 27. Wild may have a brighter future in front of him. Griekspoor is ranked at No.26 right now, and Wild is No. 76. But two years ago Griekspoor was ranked No. 95. So in two years Wild may be able to climb the ranks to reach the 20's as well.

Fantastic video again! It all makes a lot of sense, sometimes I wonder about the Julia Görges serve. She had good results with it, but the way she takes the racket back, with the arm almost stretching up parallel to the tossing arm, is quite unorthodox. Also Roddick went above the shoulder line with the racket-elbow during the toss, but then brought the elbow again just below the shoulder line during the loading phase. Görges however kept the elbow above the shoulder line also during the loading, and only when she "triggered" the serve as the legs push the body up, the elbow would finally be in line with the shoulders. Could you please go a bit deeper on this? Here is a slow motion of the Görges serve kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmqlkGWBZdxsbck

I believe it would be optimal to put the camera on the side and demonstrate the service or any technique at the appropriate part of the court. Turning around or looking at as, it is not very helpful.

Not true, netherlands had the last 2-3 years a better player with also much potential and a huge serve, Botic van de Zandschulp 🙂 but since some month, his form lacks...I know them both from germany´s tennis bundesliga, Griekspoor plays for Gladbach and Botic for BW Neuss. And Botic was on Tour and in the netherlands always the more successful player...Griekspoor has a good run and developement since last year Rotterdam ATP500, but in general, doubt that he has Top 10 potential...
