Something you have emphasized before but didn't mention here is that for flat & slice you uncoil more than for kick, so that for the kick serve the torso remains sideways and doesn't end up pointing in the direction of the ball trajectory. I don't think you forgot about that nor changed your mind, so I assume you left it out in order to focus fully on the toss, and perhaps betting on the reduced torso rotation being consequential.

About eliminating the double faults, I got a question for you Nick. I play mens doubles on the entry level. I got about 3 years of taking tennis courses and my partner 1 year, we are both over 30, I am a few ranks above the lowest rank and my double partner is lowest rank. When we play in tournaments, I always have about a 50% first serve rate in and a 100% second serve rate in. I do this by mixing in some kick serves in my first serve and mixing in quite a lot of "grandma" serves in my second serve. From a mens doubles tournament perspective this is OK because never has anyone punished that 2nd serve, our level is just too low for that. However, my partner, with less experience, has just 1 type of serve. It's always the same hard kick serve. His first serve is 30% in, and his 2nd serve is 50% in, which is just the first serve with a bit less speed. We lose important matches because of these, today we lost a semi-final against moonballers, by him doing about 12 double faults. Most of the time his serve points are lost. I asked him "why don't you try a pancake grandma second serve on crucial points?". But it seems to be a kinda "I can't do it" or perhaps a hidden "I refuse to do it"... I don't know he's not really saying it. I think anyone can do that kind of 90% in second serve. But you as a trainer, what is your opinion? Should that kinda serve always be avoided even in a competitive setting, or should it be used as a safeguard to not always lose. Especially on doubles it can be a mismatch and i've seen quite some discussions among players on this online. Should I even be allowed to say anything to him about his serve, should I care, should I drop him as a double partner for not trying a safe serve, or should he drop me for trying to push him to a grandma serve... Perhaps good for a video and your feedback as a trainer?

Do you have to replace the balls after getting them wet like that? Or do you let them dry somehow?
@IntuitiveTennis3 ай бұрын
They are savable if brand new, usually a hard smack will get all the water out and they eventually dry. Rain does damage the balls tho, not recommended, but in South Florida I’ve gotten rained on 1000’s of times, in the summers it can daily, so I try to salvage them.

Shamir's problem is two fold. His back leg is dead, meaning that there is no lean on the release of toss to help get his toss arm vertical so there's no push back from ground up and no knee bend. At the strike point his shoulders are parallel to the net so the leading elbow has passed in front of his head. Get Shamir to turn his shoulders more BEFORE the toss so that when he strikes the ball he doesn't over rotate.

The key seems to be the toss. Tossing behind your head is not intuitive. Not at all. If you get the damn toss correct, then it is practically impossible to get it wrong. 🎾
@pocketmatch83583 ай бұрын
Honestly it doesn’t need to be at 11 am, most of the pros have the same toss for their kick as their first serve. If the toss is at 11 am every pro would just step in and crack the ball. Even at utr 11/12 level. The most important thing on the kick: 1. Brush up on the ball (pretend you’re hammering a nail towards the sky and go towards and finish on your side fence) 2. Use your forearm more to get that brush action instead of arming it. Good trick is pretend your girlfriend/wife is standing on the other side of the net right in-front of the net and you don’t want to hit her. Kick it over her so you don’t hit her :)
