I'm not a KZbinr, I'm just following this drama because it's interesting. I think you could prove your hypothesis if you contacted a few other content creators that make Mint Mobile content and ask them if the monetization for those videos have also dropped to see if it really is affecting the niche or just your channel.

What a nice form of sabotage. I can shut down my competitors or just burn down channels I dont like by using bots or even just doing things myself with no bots to create fake traffic on channels I want to destroy. I know youtube will punish the victim and take away creator's money and never come after me. After all, is it technically illegal if I am on my own personal computer and I open like 50 tabs of the same video with 50 different accounts tied to the same IP address and keep clicking on ads etc with zero intention to buy? Can I be arrested for doing that? Is that even technically a crime?

Investigate the video's that have a drop in RPM. They have that, because they are flagged with invalid traffic. Look if you can see a spike from Google Search. If that's the case, there has been a bot attack on that video. These bots use Google Search from many different IP's to search your video, and then "click" on it. The pre-roll add will thus be played by a bot. The algorithm detects this spike and can see the bots a quickly drop off. So you should also see a dropp of in the first 10 seconds. To combat this, you must disable the pre-roll ads on your video's as a precaution as these ads are the ones causing it.

New supporter here, and as a small, new channel, this is pretty dope knowledge and I appreciate you showing the "actual data" and graphs to back this up. Definitely nowhere close to being monetized, but it's still good to know what's out there as possibilities (both good and bad). Solid video and looking forward to checking out some others.

Hey Everton, you're not alone in this! I've also been affected on and off all the back since November 22, 2022. It's honestly the worst situation I've ever experienced after so many years on this platform. Hope it's fixed soon for all creators!

It may also have to do with external traffic. Yotube videos watched outside of youtube are not supposed to be getting ad revenue according to a Forbes post. Advertisers supposedly have a contract that states they are only paying for ads on the youtube platform and many advertisers are mad they have been paying for ads on videos that are imbedded in websites or being watched on reddit ect. If this is true and youtube stops paying for external traffic many youtubers are going to see a drop in ad revenue by around 30%

finally someone said this. i believe this is what happened. there are huge amount of ai article generation tools that able to scrape any youtube video and auto embed that into a related article. thus the sudden spike of this behaviour.

Great video. My channel was hit with this bug on August 30th. Revenue fell off a cliff and has sat there since even though my views are at an all-time high. Let's hope they fix it.

Thanks for sharing Everton! Youre the first creator Ive seen that actually did an analysis of niches and showed that there were vids of yours where income DIDNT drop. Thats super valuable. Im curious how many "make money online" niches lost income....

Thanks for your insights. It still is bizarre how many different channels have been limited in a wide range of niches, but everyone in my niche is still unaffected. I guess I'll go look at it per video.

Yeah I believe this change goes in and address specific channels, and then the change goes into affect. Other folks in my niche have not spoken out as well but I noticed that this seems to impact uses in groups of time periods. A lot of users showed up in August 2023 but an earlier group in 2020 pinpoints a November date.

KZbin says " keep your subscribers coming back,we have playlists that some of our subscribers like to listen to a lot,all I'm getting from this is that if anyone watches your video more than once,KZbin calls it invalid traffic, if whoever watches your channel doesn't browse back and forth, up and down, KZbin calls it invalid traffic, it's not a bug,it's a target.

So, basically, the time I put into my videos in my niche (if that is what is happening) ... the time I put into my videos is not valued and honored the same way as another creator. That is discrimination and not what YPP promotes in their policy, bit maybe, here we are. Appreciate the video, thank you ❤

It has been part of youtube for a really long term and well known. Gaming channels get less rpm than financial channels and so on

Yeah it's not Invalid Traffic, they are just cutting your share of ad revenue.

Your conclusion is partly correct, however, "the invalid traffic notification is NOT erroneous" if your viewers use a VPN or adblockers then their traffic is countered as Invalid traffic, as it cannot be tracked in regards to providing proof that the view was legitimate or a bot (advertisers require this information). Also, bots use the same range of IP addresses that VPNs use. There is nothing creators can do to prevent this, unfortunately. Unless people stop using VPNs to view their videos. Also, creators in higher-paying RPM niches are more likely to be hit as those high RPM advertisers are more likely to be fussy about ensuring views are hitting their selected audience and not bots due to the higher amounts of money they pay for views. Maybe a good idea for a video ask your viewers if they use a VPN or adblocker

It has affected my small channel and I am not a large channel. My revenue is very limited and its been slashed 😢 of course i have crickets ... i have no feedback l, so am looking everywhere to see who is, in fact, addressing it. So, basically, if a bad actor wants to jeopardize a channel without the creator having a clue, the channel and creator are punished without prior investigstion. I am gutted! My daily revenue keeps dropping daily as well.

Yeah, my channel with 90K subs got the same penalty, and like you I don't do any of the things KZbin says not to do. But I think you are wrong about KZbin intentionally knocking down RPM. Most of your and my ad money comes from auction ads. If an ad buyers no longer want to bid on our ads, they wont. I don't think there is a shred of evidence that KZbin is going niche by niche through all the possible categories and deciding what is too much and what is OK.

Yeah I feel your pain. But auction ads typically don't work that way. Meaning the auction ads bid based on relavance by category and niche, not by specific video- then google places where appropriate. The only evidence I have is that all my mint mobile videos have drastically been reduced while finances stay with higher RPM's as before my channel took a hit.

Interesting. This happened to me like so many others. I'm not 100% clear on why this triggers the invalid traffic notification but essentially I think you are saying it's just built into the code basically. Regardless it's the first viewpoint that I've heard that I can understand a bit as to the 'why'. When I spoke to KZbin they said the invalid traffic issue and RPM are unrelated issues and that the RPM is accurate, and the invalid traffic issue is also accurate.

I don't think it's niche related...but I don't know for sure that you're wrong, either. I've heard niche, SEO based videos, how-to based videos, random, targeted...etc. I have about 38K subs. I've never had a viral video. I've responded to just about every comment on every video for the last two years. This was a slow build for me, but one I've been proud of and worked for. I didn't even know buying a view was a thing. Much less paying for clicks. I was hit with this over a month ago. Like everyone else, I'm just told to read and then reread the articles about it. Those are of zero use if you weren't actively gaming the system. I'm not going to lie, it's truly demotivating. Pivoting for me isn't an option. I've built my whole channel around helping people start their own eBay business. My revenue so far is down 80-85%. If it drops to zero, I think I'll just keep putting out the videos trying to help people. But I'll have to spend less time doing it and focus on my own eBay business. I appreciate you putting this video out. I have one coming out soon, too. Mine is more of a "How much I made in the last year...the last month might surprise you" sort of thing. I don't have any guesses what has caused it. I personally think it's a bug or glitch. It would feel a whole lot different if KZbin just talked to us like genuine creators instead of criminals. I hope they fix this for you. I truly do. It lifts for some people and not others. I hope you're one of the ones it releases.

Well explained.... everything you said is happening across my channel. The only confusing thing at the moment is that my cpm no longer relates to my rpm on some videos. So not sure if this is a result of the invalid traffic notification.

Yea my CPM has been showing “-“ since this event started. I believe it’s part of the re-evaluation. I do believe this metric is off for my channel since it’s not reporting it at all. But I’ll definitely continue researching

I'm in the same boat. With almost the exact same time-frame as you. I've tried a few fixes, but nothing has seemed to have worked (I'm still early in the process) (I'm the 90% revenue lost video on your screen recording :)

Yeah I’ve seen some channel similar coverage(niche) as mine who are impacted. I doubt it’s going to change… my new video has the same niche and same RPM

It's a bug with the KZbin app, ads will show for these creators on mobile browser and desktop as long as ad blocker is off... It definitely is a KZbin bug

Why would the RPM be affected? That doesn’t have anything to do with ad blockers… those are tied to niches.

@@evertonsway ad revenue is why most customers are losing money... From what I am seeing ads are not popping up through KZbin ads for select creators through the app but on mobile and desktop these ads do show. So I'm not sure exactly what's happening but I do see a very big issue concerning the app which is where most people watch videos on their phones through the KZbin app and this will cost creators much revenue. I don't think KZbin even understands the issue at this point... If it was niches then wouldn't there be a message regarding the new changes to niches they are saying they can't verify traffic and it seems to be when using the mobile app for some reason so it sounds like a bug...

In the video, but later, I explain I think that notification is falsely triggered bc they reassessed the value of the higher paying niche and now this new assigned value conflicts with the amount of $ they previously got paid and it seems like it’s traffic boosting tactics. I’m seeing a lot of KZbinrs extremely upset (crying at times) about their income but I look at their views and it’s sometimes just a couple hundred per video to a couple thousand. Normally with an RPM that’s $3 or $4 that equates to maybe $6 to $8, I doubt some KZbinrs are upset bc they are losing 1 or 2 hundred bucks per month… I am losing several hundred dollars and yeah that is why a lot of ppl are super upset that we’re dropping 60-90% of our revenue with the rpm drops off. We agree that income is dropping but the cause is the RPM dropping

I'm confused about it all because I have not seen any ads using the KZbin for the creators that received the notification and I mean not one ad so that is a bit odd I can see ads being limited but it seems through the app they are completely gone.. just trying to understand it all

I believe that different ads cost different amounts. I have experience with this bc I’ve ran ad campaigns on KZbin before and you have a monthly budget, but you can choose where you place your ads but different content cost more. So if I want to advertise in front of shoe reviews bc I run a shoe cleaning company, I would pay a different amount if I were advertise in front of a financial topic bc I run a large bank. These ad placements cost different amounts. KZbinrs are in a revenue sharing platform, which means from the net we split the profits with KZbin. If they value my niche (amongst others) then yeah I will get paid less, even if I get the same amount of ads, the ads are just being sold for less…so consequentially I get less money

No I don’t recommend that. I think the best think to do is to look for a relevant niche to your platform that isn’t impacted, and pivot to that…but deleting the videos that are having low revenue doesn’t seem to positively impact your future videos.

I'm sorry to hear about this but think it's a fundamental error that people expect some big tech company to "support" them. YOU are their product, and they can do whatever they want with you.

We’re the contracted work partner, not the product. The video we produce is the product. And support is here, we have resources and options but the communication is lacking. You would need to understand how a big company enforces its policies. The issue I have is the communication is not effective surrounding this issue.
