My buddy @JohnnyStabile and I went frog fishing for the highly invasive bullseye snakehead! These fish were illegally introduced into Florida in the early 90's and have since flourished. They are hard fighters and make great table fare! In this video I show you how to Catch, how to clean and how to cook the bullseye snakehead.

In 2002, the first snakehead fish were found in Crofton Maryland in a pond. The area was close to a area had a large Asian population. Snakeheads are in Chinese medicine. The snakeheads were sold in local stores, however some of those purchasing them raised them in aquariums, and once the fish out grew the tank were released into the Crofton pond. The MD Fish and Game Department poisoned the pond to kill the fish, but they had spread to other locations. The snakehead now is found in all of the tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River. These fish have a automatic order to kill as they are eating the local species of perch, large and small mouth bass, striped bass and blue crabs, based on the stomach contents. The ones I've caught were cut through the gill plate and tossed for the gulls to eat.

@@SouthFl_fishing Same church, different pew. The snakeheads were imported for Asian live markets, out grew the aquariums, and released into the wild. FWC is all over the place as for how to handle. Some articles want pictures send with a location, others say to dispatch them. Now FWC calls the Bullseye snakehead, Goldline snakeheads. When I caught them, I cut through the gill plate and gutted for stomach contents checks. Areas where I caught nice white perch in the upper Chesapeake Bay were wiped out by the snakeheads.

what i found in internet about eating snakehead fish.. Snakehead fish is one of the favorite dishes, mainly used as food, traditional medicine and treatment. In addition to the rich nutritional composition of snakehead fish, it also has pharmacological effects such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cell proliferation, platelet aggregation and anti-nociceptive activities. Snakehead fish contains a high content of essential amino acids and a good amount of fatty acids which can directly improve tissue growth, wound healing, supplement nutrients such as food supplements and pharmaceuticals.

My college buddy with Scottish roots is also a Lord by the same process. Here in NY we don't have the bullseye snakehead, but we have another variety and it's against the law to return them to the water if we catch them. They have to be immediately killed and you have to notify the DEC. I don't know if they confiscate them or if they are edible, but after seeing this, it might be interesting to try. Brooke, I was afraid we weren't going to see you in this video and I was wondering if anything was amiss. Good to see you guys back on the vid circuit. Here's a tip for when the snakeheads' teeth tear up your frog and it fills up with water. Seal up the holes with a dab of super glue.

Thank You for the video. It is good to know Americans are appreciating the good taste of snakeheads. Your seasoning choice is great. Try leaving it overnight in a Ziplock bag before grilling and I am sure it will be better. In Asia, where most of the farm raise snakeheads are the Channa species, they are either cook in slices as a soup dish with carnation milk, thin slices of ginger, cut tomatoes, fish stock, cut cabbage and a shot of XO brandy (seriously) along with rice and the other version is deep fried chunks of meat coated in flour bater.
