Just coming into Tau from Space Marines. Your videos have been of great help sir with starting out my Tau army, thank you.

I have used the 3 available ion rifles in the pathfinder kit. It takes a bit of cutting and sculpting, but you do get 3 and they are very close to cyclic ion blasters.

Fantastic idea, I'm fairly new to modeling and warhammer models, any good tutorials about either kitbashing or what you have suggested specifically?

I got 6 CiB printed by shapeways from a user named Gragagrogog a while back, he was even gracious enough to add a magnet hole for me so I didn’t have to drill it myself. Pretty reasonable in the grand scheme of things if I remember correctly and would recommend if he’s still doing them.

It’s important to remember - mathhammering for the max efficiency does not win games with objectives and terrain. Mobility in 8ed wins in standard 40k missions. ITC complicates the question, but board control over firepower to balance the army out is a routine practice among competitive players.
@InvasiveWargaming5 жыл бұрын
absolutely! mathhammer is just one tool that we can use to understand how units work. Things like mobility and durability are often equally or more important.

Can confirm. Got blasted to shreds in my last game, and between scoring objectives left and right and denying objectives for my adversary, that won me the game... :-) for the greater good of course!

They finally did it thank god. They were so expensive when you compare to unit such as Kasstelan with only cost 100 for what it can do

I like taking a CIB on my warlord commander along with a pair of fusion blasters to get the farsight relic and a shield generator makes him a solid tanky brawler

I’m pretty sure red dog minis sells cyclic ion blasters

I still have the original finecast CIB that I’ve been making casts of. Not perfect, but it still works. Trying to get my hands on the original metal one to cast because I love the look of it, but no luck so far.

I find the most efficient loadout for XV8's is x2 cib and x1 fb in a unit of 4 supported by either x1 or x2 commanders with similar weapons options. Can take out a riptide with 4+ invulns in a single turn. Any different experiences?

I use them basically how you said already 😅😅 Current list BN Detachment Sept:Tau HQ 1xCommander Shadowsun w/command link drone 1xCadre Fireblade TROOPS 3x bare units of fire warriors ELITES 2x Riptides w/heavy burst cannon, 2 smart missile systems, advanced targetting system, and target lock FAST ATTACK 1x 6 shield drones 2x 4 shield drones OUTRIDER Detachment Sept: Viorla HQ 1x Commander in coldstar battlesuit w/2 fusion blasters, supernova launcher, shield generator, and 1 model with iridium suit. ELITES 2x 3 Crisis suits w/ 2 cyclic ion blasters, shield generator, FAST ATTACK 3x 5 basic units of pathfinders OUTRIDER Detachment Sept: Viorla HQ 1x Commander in coldstar battlesuit w/ 3 fusion blasters and a shield generator FAST ATTACK 4x 4 shield drones The basically I have the two riptides in the back/middle with shadowsun between them so they both benefit from kauyon. The coldstars will flank and take out key targets early on in the opponent back field. They have the shield gen to help hopefully keep them alive long enough to bug out or get help but even if they trade up before getting shwacked then that's fine to me, opponents often time lose their composure when their key pieces are gone in turn one and will make mistakes from there on. Crisis suits will handle the mid level targets while troops are handled by riptides and objective holding by the fire warriors. The drones in the bn are to protect the riptides and shadowsun and the Viorla sept drones are to be used at choice of importance. For me I will put at least 1 unit of 4 by each unit of the crisis suits and the other 2 can be used to protect your pathfinders if you find you'll need them against your opponent, send them with the crisis suits as wel for even more protection, or even keep them in Manta Hold to manta strike them where your commanders will be ending at in turn 2 to keep them alive.

Here's an easy "spread sheet": You want ai? If it's geq take bc or AFP. If it's meq take cib. If it's teq take FB. Don't take ATS on BC or AFP as the -1 ap doesn't offset the amount of shots lost. You Can take ATS with cib it mostly depends on what you are expecting to face. Don't take ATS with FB. Just don't. You want at/AMC? Cib is a decent option esp if you can overload on markers. The most relevant option is FB in this case. ATS helps a bit with cib. Again, don't take ATS with FB. You want a support CMD? ML. This is your long range guy possibly giving up shooting to aid a Riptide but does have some ranged options with decen-ish results at a higher range compared to most of your firepower. This is a personal choice for me but I always take AFP on all xv8 variant models just cause of the mecha aspect of it. I did just make an 18cp 2k (1999) list with decent at, 13 markerlights (of this, 8 are not characters), 20sms and 14 seekers. Just a side note: I know longstrike has good bs and provides good bs but it's a very high point sink for an army. A sa'cea railhead is much more viable. I know there is the ion head but for that I'd rather use a sa'cea ion tide. Much more reliable.

As a new player to Warhammer and Tau, how do you deal with all the hate Tau get? I would like to know. I picked Tau because i like the "wall of guns". The only other option is imperial guard/Astra militraum, but i disliked how the guard is just causalities don't matter.

Tell them to explain why outside of (1 dimensional, which we have to think differently b/c we don't have all phases). And ask them if they ever just gun line. If they do they have no right to complain.

If your gaming group is mature enough it really should not become a real problem. If it does, you could always just talk/confront to them about how their attitude may be hurting your enjoyment of the hobby. From my knowledge, people are generally salty over how strong T'au was during 7th edition. If that's the case, just remind them T'au isn't that cheesy anymore not when you consider Ynnari Shining spears, guardsmen tank, and etc. I hope this helps. Always nice to see new comers :)
@CockerTop5 жыл бұрын
The same people that complain about T’au are the people that like the Castellan/IG soup. Pure hypocrisy.

Tell them to git gud, you don't even get to play 2 phases of the game and if they can't handle it that's on them

Personally i'm really big on having my models match my loadouts, so the fact that i have to go to third party retailers just to get one of the possible loadouts for my crisis suits is pretty gross IMHO. I don't have 90 bucks just laying around just to get me some cyclic ion blasters from shapeways just for my one battlesuit squad.

I just thought I would let everyone know that dropping in a crisis suit bomb from deeps strike and overcharging your CIB's and using drop zone clear does not mean you don't fail because as the rules state a roll of a natural 1 always counts as a fail. just keep it in mind because i sure as hell didn't haha
