Shark Tank Australia

4 жыл бұрын

Richard Ploszaj entered the tank seeking $5M in return for a 49% equity stake in his "revolutionary" bike model - the "TROPPO BICYCLE". Richard promised 100% financially secure and risk free. Projected return of $5 billion in 2020.
Rule #1 in any business: never make state their investment is "risk free".
An international sensation, Shark Tank AUS features entrepreneurs pitching for investment in the Tank from our Sharks, five venture capitalists willing to invest their own money in exchange for equity.

Even ignoring the motorcycle, it's still not true. While the first thing that could be considered a bicycle was the "Draisine" or "Laufmaschine" invented in 1817 by Baron Karl von Drais, the modern bicycle is far more closely related to the "safety bicycle" which was invented in the 1880s.

this was not a scam, this man was delusional, he does not understand how finance works, how the tour de france works, and maybe not even how pedals work. His pump action pedal is no more efficient than a traditional pedal. Yes it has more leverage, but leverage merely generates the same amount of force over a longer time. So there is no power advantage over a traditional pedal arrangement. You get more go for every pumping cycle, but every pump cycle takes longer. There is a still the up and down motion of the feet.

If he, as a random engineer self building these things, can make them for $2,600 and get someone to pay $2,600...then a business expert can very likely find ways to produce them for a lot less and sell them for a lot more. Also, most of the efficiency from the bike comes from the constant momentum of your legs moving round and round. Imagine doing this up and down motion over and over again

Watching this in 2021, but even in 2019 the future is electric assist, increasing range and speed and reducing fatigue. I would love to see it shift more towards dragsters / cruisers / choppers tho.
